STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 25 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 25 DE OCTUBREMost of us are accustomed to being called Christians — that is, followers of Christ. However, the Lord’s first followers were not called by that name at all. It was not until many years after His Crucifixion and Resurrection that the term Christian became popularly used. There is a subtle, yet profound reference and statement in today’s Gospel from St. Mark, a reading which presents to us the healing of a blind man.
After Jesus has responded to the blind man’s calls for mercy and healing, and the Lord has told him that it was his faith which had saved him, the Gospel tells us of the former blind man, “Immediately he received his sight and followed him (Jesus) on the way.” What is noteworthy about this is at that time and for the first years after Jesus’ Resurrection, His disciples were called “followers of the way.” They recognized Jesus as the way to live and the way to salvation. (Jesus stated more than once, “I am the way.”)
Thus, the man became not just healed but a follower of the Lord. Jesus healed the man on His way from Jericho to Jerusalem, where He would be crucified. The man most likely was with Him all the way. Would we be will-ing to follow the Lord on such a journey? That is exactly what He is asking us to do.
For a longer reflection or more info on stewardship: http://www.thecatho-licsteward.com/

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima/ Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
I’m sure many of us have been on a trust walk. That’s when one person is blindfolded and another person guides them around an area. It’s an interesting experiment because even though you have a guide, you’re trying to picture in your head where you are and still stumble around a bit. As you allow the guide to lead you, you become more confident in your steps and stop trying to imagine the terrain and just trust your guide. Bartimaeus, the blind man, told Jesus, “I want to see”.
Bartimaeus had learned to trust others to lead him around. When he regained his sight, his faith attached him to Jesus knowing that Jesus would lead him to salvation. This is why he began to follow Jesus.
Thursday Night Confessions at 7pm: November 5 & 12 on the front porch of church
God bless you all!
Fr. Jim

What do you want me to do for you? This is the very same question that Jesus asked of James and John in last Sunday’s gospel but Bartimeaus’ request is in stark contrast to theirs and so is Jesus’ response. Bartimaeus does not seek to be first among men. His need is far more simple. He wants to be rescued. James and John enjoy a privileged relationship with Jesus. Bartimeaus on the other hand is on the fringe of society. He must persist in his request. He is hindered by his own physical limitations and by some around him who would deny him access. Jesus rewards his persistence and in healing Bartimaeus confirms that his mission is not to bestow power and honor but to open our eyes and make us whole.
1. What prevents me from approaching Jesus with my needs?
2. Where do I need to be made whole?
Take a moment to revisit this Sunday’s readings [Jer 31:7-9; Heb 5:1-6; Mk 10:46-52] http://usccb.org/bible/readings/102515.cfm
◆ 1. ¿Qué me impide acercarse a Jesús con mis necesidades?

OLF PARISH SCHOOL NEWS
What is Transitional Kindergarten? Our Lady of Fatima Parish School is so very proud of our expanded Early Education Program, which includes Transitional Kindergarten or TK - the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. It provides a bridge between preschool and traditional kindergarten in a warm and nurturing learning environment that is developmentally appropriate within a bright and cheery atmosphere. Entry age for TK is four years old by September 1, as it is specifi-cally designed to give four year old children and young five year old children the gift of time to develop socially and cognitively in order to ensure success in kindergarten.
TK offers a modified kindergarten, hands-on, active curriculum designed to develop children’s intellectual, social and emotional skills. It is an ideal choice for children who need a little more time to adjust to the demands of a long school day and schedule, as well as those who just miss the age cut-off for kindergarten. In TK, children pray, play, write, read, count, share God’s love, and make new friends!
Enroll Now! OLF Parish School offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through the 8th grade level. If you are considering an excellent Catholic school experience for your child or children, please contact Kris Windes at [email protected] or 492-7320 to learn more about our implementation of 21st century learning opportunities.
