Visits to the Sick and the Disabled If there is a member of the parish community who is sick, homebound or in a nursing home or hospital, please inform the office of the Rectory so that the priests can visit them. The parish staff is always looking to update our communion call list so that all can celebrate the sacraments with regular frequency. Please call right away

Epiphany of the Lord
"We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." These Magi did not know the person they were seeking to honor. They had not met Jesus, but had embarked upon a long and arduous journey in or-der to come into his presence. Although they were not from among the Jewish people who had received the ancient promises of a Messiah, they were nonetheless anticipating his arrival. And when they found him, "they were overjoyed." Their quest had come to its moment of fulfillment when "they saw the child with Mary his mother."
For those of us who have been raised Christian since our infancy, it's important to reflect on the joy of the Magi. They found Christ as a result of great effort and expense. The very trials of their journey, and the hope that was fulfilled when it was successful, made them appreciate their encounter with Jesus in a profound way as "they prostrated themselves... and offered him gifts." Converts to the faith may have a kind of ad-vantage in comprehending the experience of the Magi. But cradle Catholics may need to exert a bit more ef-fort to share in the wonder. Even when Jesus has al-ways been a part of someone's life, it is still important to stand in awe of him. On the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, we meditate on what it means to "find" Je-sus. For some of us, this means remembering a conver-sion experience, but for others it means imagining what life would be like without him, and then rejoicing in the fact that he is truly with us. No matter how we found the Lord, we too should fall down on our knees in adoration and offer him the precious treasures of our lives: our fervent devotion and our will to serve him.
La Epifanía del Señor
Jesucristo es para todos, es el mensaje central de este domingo de la Epifanía del Señor. Seguimos de fiesta en torno a la manifestación de Dios al mundo. Contin-uamos con la celebración de la Navidad reuniéndonos en torno a la Eucaristía. La oración Colecta nos ayuda a reflexionar en la importancia de desear la salvación cada vez más. "Señor Dios, que por medio de una es-trella, diste a conocer en este día, a todos los pueblos el nacimiento de tu Hijo, concede a los que ya te conoce-mos por la fe, llegar a contemplar, cara a cara, la her-mosura de tu inmensa gloria". Por este mensaje enten-demos que nadie tiene la exclusiva de la salvación. To-dos tenemos que trabajar en ella como bautizados. ¿Cómo trabajo personalmente y en comunidad para que la salvación de Dios llegue a todos los pueblos? ¿Cómo podemos contemplar a Dios en las necesidades de nuestros hermanos y hermanas? Hoy es el día de abrir los corazones y las mentalidades de las personas para que el Evangelio sea ofrecido a los que no conocen a Dios. Esto es lo que el Papa Francisco y los obispos de los Estados Unidos nos piden. Abrir la dimensión misionera de la fe, ser discípulos con intención de serlo y no solo de aparien-cia. Los pobres, los sin voz, los inmigrantes, los enfer-mos y sobre todo los niños, tienen derecho de encon-trarse con el Niño de Belén, de encontrar su luz y así iluminados por ella sean capaces de compartir lo que tienen. La Epifanía es un anuncio para los cercanos y para los lejanos, es el punto de unir todas las cosas en Cristo. ¡Gracias Señor por manifestarte en mi vida!

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor Feliz año nuevo! Rezo para que el amor y la misericordia de Dios le lle-nen el nuevo año con muchas alegrías. El nuevo año trae naturalmente consigo una lista de las cosas o de las resoluciones que podamos hacer. Pensé que tal vez de las resoluciones que podríamos echar un vistazo a las obras espirituales y corporales de la Iglesia de la misericordia. No trate de hacer todo de ellos, se vuel-ven locos! En su lugar, tomar uno de cualquiera de las listas y ver cómo se puede permitir que sea un foco y una parte de su vida en un momento dado. Y a medida que se dispuso a poner esa obra de misericordia en ac-ción, pedir orientación y la fuerza de Dios.
Las obras corporal de misericordia • Alimentar a los hambrientos (ayudar en un refugio, comprar a alguien pidiendo limosna en la calle un Big Mac!) • Dar de beber al sediento • vestir al desnudo. (¿Necesita toda la ropa en su arma-rio? No regale basura!) • Refugio los sin techo (Muchos refugios necesitan asistencia financiera y voluntarios) • Visita a los enfermos (Pregúntame sobre el hogar ju-dío y el Hospital. Tengo un número de nombres.) • Visitar a los encarcelados (Si no puede visitar una prisión, llame a un capellán en una cárcel y pedir el nombre de una persona para que pueda escribir en él o ella). • Enterrar a los muertos. (Averigüe cuándo podríamos tener un funeral. Acompáñame a la funeraria. Ayúda-me en la misa funeral.)
Las obras de misericordia espirituales • amonestar al pecador. (Recuerde, es el año de la mi-sericordia. Ayudar a alguien a regresar a los sacramen-tos, especialmente la confesión y la Santa Misa). • Instruya a los ignorantes (Este y el siguiente trabajo son categorías muy pertinentes hoy en día, cuando tan-ta gente está confundida por lo que enseña la Iglesia. Sólo asegúrese de no volver a llamar a nadie "ignorante". En su lugar, proporcionar recursos para que la gente lea, introducirlos a oraciones especiales, los santos, etc.) • Asesorar a la dudosa • Conforte a los tristes • soportar pacientemente los defectos del prójimo • Perdonar a los que nos ofenden Y, por último, rezar por los vivos y los muertos. De hecho, vamos a estar seguros de orar unos por otros.
From the Pastor’s Desk Happy New Year! I pray that God’s love and mercy fill your new year with so much joy. The new year naturally brings with it a list of things or resolutions that we might make. I thought perhaps instead of resolutions we might take a look at the Church’s spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Don’t try to do all of them, you will go crazy! Instead, take one from either list and see how you can allow it to be a focus and a part of your life at any giv-en time. And as you set out to put that work of mercy into action, ask for God’s guidance and strength.
The Corporal Works of Mercy
Feed the hungry (Help out at a shelter, buy someone begging in the street a Big Mac!)
Give drink to the thirsty Clothe the naked. (Do you need all the clothes in your
closet? Don’t give away junk!) Shelter the homeless (Many shelters need financial as-
sistance and volunteers) Visit the sick (Ask me about the Jewish Home and
Hospital. I have a number of names.) Visit the imprisoned (If you can’t visit a prison, call a
chaplain in a jail and ask for a person’s name so that you can write to him or her).
Bury the dead. (Find out when we might have a funer-al. Accompany me to the wake. Assist me at the funeral Mass.)
The Spiritual Works of Mercy
Admonish the sinner. (Remember, it is the year of mercy. Help out someone to return to the sac-raments, especially confession and the holy Mass).
Instruct the ignorant (This and the next work are ex-tremely pertinent categories today, when so many people are confused by what the Church teaches. Just be sure never to call anyone “ignorant”. Instead, provide resources for peo-ple to read, introduce them to special prayers, the saints, etc.)
Counsel the doubtful Comfort the sorrowful Bear wrongs patiently Forgive all injuries And finally, pray for the living and the dead. Indeed, let us be sure to pray for one another.
