• Located in Central Europe, it has about 10 million inhabitants (about 2 million in the capital)

• Its territory is 93,030 km2

• The official language is Hungarian which is said to be one of the most difficult languages in the world

• Hungary is a parliamentary republic• It is famous for its thermal baths and cuisine• The highest point is Mount Kékes with its 1014 m in

the Northern part of the country• It has continental climate with hot summers and cold

winters• Hungary joined the European Union in 2004

What can we see when we go to

school?

Part 1, the Parliament• River Danube divides the

capital into two parts: the hilly Buda side and Pest side

• As you can see, our beautiful Parliament is located next to the Danube, on the Pest side

• This is the third largest parliament building in the world. 

• We have 386 MP’s working here. They are elected for a four-year term

Part 2Buda Castle

• It took many years to build it, but the construction was started in the 13th century

• It is located on the Castle Hill which dominates the city

• The name Buda Castle covers more than a castle or the Royal Palace in the capital city; it extends to the historical quarter full of sites.

Part 3Gellért Hill

• The Gellért Hill received its name after St. Gellert who came to Hungary as a missionary bishop upon the invitation of King St. Stephen I. around 1000 A.D.

• If you climb up this hill, you will have a wonderful view to the city

• This is opposite with our university, on the Buda side

Part 4Liberty Statue on Gellért

Hill• On the top of the hill you can

see this statue which was first erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary from Nazi forces during World War II.

• The 14 meter tall bronze statue stands atop a 26 meter pedestal and holds a palm leaf.

• On the statue you can read: "To the memory of all of those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and success of Hungary."

Part 6Heroes’ Square

• It is one of the major squares in Budapest

•  Its iconic statue complex, the Millennium Memorial, was completed in 1900

• It lies at the end of Andrássy Avenue, and next to City Park

• It is surrounded by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Arts

The city of Pécs, Southwest Hungary

• Due to the fact that it is very close to the Croatian border, it is called the „mediterranean city” of Hungary

• It was founded by the Romans in the beginning of the 2nd century

• However, on this picture we can see a Turkish mosque since the area was occupied by the Turkish in the 16th century

• Pécs is currently the 5th largest city of our country, with about 157000 inhabitants

Szeged,Southeast Hungary

• The 3rd largest Hungarian city, about 170000 inhabitants

• Szeged is one of the centres of the food industry in Hungary, especially known for our special spice, the paprika powder and our delicious salami

• The University of Szeged  is one of the most distinguished universities in Hungary

Lake Balaton,the most popular summer destination in

Hungary• It is the largest lake in

Central Europe• Often called the

„Hungarian Sea”• The mountainous region of

the northern shore is known both for its historic character and as a major wine region, while the flat southern shore is known for its resort towns (and summer parties!)

• It also hosts a big festival at the beginning of July

Lake Hévíz• As we already mentioned,

Hungary is famous for its thermal baths – and you won’t only find them in Budapest!

• Hévíz is near the western end of Lake Balaton

• It is the second largest thermal lake in the world

• The flow of water is very strong and the lake is believed to be completely replenished each day

• It has curative effects, so lots of people visit Hévíz
