Moving forward

… slowly ...

but still forward.

Dear Members & Friends of St. David’s,

As of May 27th, Long Island entered into “Phase 1” of the re-

opening process. According to my understanding of the statewide

plan, if our monitored numbers and statistics continue to decrease,

we can advance to each of the next “Phases” of “openness” every 2

weeks. I believe large group gatherings (like in-church worship ser-

vices) are a part of “Phase 4,” so we still have at least 4-6 weeks

before we can safely gather for worship at St. David’s. It’s hard to

wait, but at least we’re starting to see a light at the end of the tun-

nel.

And in many ways, St. David’s doesn’t need to “re-open,” because it

never really “closed.” Sure, we’ve had to postpone our “in-person”

worship services for a while, but throughout this challenging time,

we’ve been actively trying to find new ways “to be church” and to

stay connected as a community - videoed Lenten mid-week & Sun-

day morning worship services, “Daily Bread” devotional e-mails, on-

line Sunday School resources for families to do at home, virtual cof-

fee hours, Council meetings & Confirmation classes by Zoom, “Pull

Up & Drop Off” food drives, volunteers shopping for seniors, and

just members calling other members to check-in. I eagerly look for-

ward to the day when we can “resume” in-person worship together,

but in the meantime, please know that St. David’s continues to be

“open.”

Also, as a Christian community, I believe we can help hasten that

day by doing our part to keep those monitored numbers and statis-

tics decreasing by washing our hands, by covering our mouths, by

loving our neighbors as ourselves, and by witnessing to our calming

and reassuring faith during these anxious times. Working together,

we can get through this faster. So, slowly but steadily, we are mov-

Dad Through The Decades

4 Years

My daddy can do anything!

7 Years

My dad knows a lot...a whole lot.

9 Years

My father does not know quite everything!

12 Years

Oh well, naturally my father doesn’t know that either.

21 Years

Oh, Father is so out of date!

25 Years

He knows a little bit, but not much.

30 Years

I wonder what dad would say about it.

35 Years

Before we decide, let’s get dad’s idea first.

50 Years

What would dad have done?

60 Years

My dad knew literally everything!

65 Years

I wish I could talk things over with dad once more.

Today's "Daily Bread"

from St. David's Like the TV show “Seinfeld,” our “Daily

Bread” e-mail devotionals are now about

nothing in particular, but rather about see-

ing how God can speak to us through any-

thing and everything. So we are collecting

photos of anything for potential themes.

Please send in your photos, and see if you

can “Stump the Pastor.”

If you’ve missed any of our Today’s “Daily

Bread” from St. David’s, there is an archive

of all the past “Daily Breads” on our web-

site - www.stdavidslutheran.net.

If you have not been receiving our devo-

tionals, and would like to be added to our

church email list, please call, or e-mail,

Cathie at the Church Office. Thank you.
