Thursday Feature Race Ruidoso Downs, N.M.··Scott's

CoJJrtship continued his dominance over the thre<!-year·old division at Ruidoso Downs by rolling to. a haU· length win in Thursday's Roadrunner Stakes at· Ruidoso Downs.

The colt, ridden by Dale Irion, made it two stakes in a row by holding orr the persistent One llold Scout in the final strides. '

For a couple of strides, Jockey Keith Asmussen really had Vespero In high gear, and the gelding-owner of the third-best qualifying time-api>eared to snare the lead. At around the halfway poil\1 of the 44Q-yard route. Vespero began gliding Inward. lie got close to Moon Lark, but the two didn't makq contact.

At about the time Vespero was starting that Inward slide, l\loon Lark was really beginning to tire. As the fleld thWldered down to the wire,ll!oon Lark

. began to get the upper hand. Vesper~> gave every lndlcatlon or having run himself out, and began to fade. But Moon Lark picked up more strength with each stride. In the final dozen strides or so, he was clearly In command. and galillng with each jump.

Osage Juana, the top qualifier handled by Bill1fayes, was out or tit in the early going, but launched a tremendous bid in the middle of the track t,~nd was moving powerfully at the end. Still, with all that closing kick, she never threatened the winner.

Around Corona lfolme Maid, ridden by Danny

Cardoza on the rail, also had a lot of octane at the end. The filly, who was a late supplemental nominee to the AllAmerican at cost or $15,000, was truing her best throughout and showed no inclination to quit. But she was unable to hold oft Osage Juana in the last desperate jump and missed the place
