In order to complete our work, we need some peace and quiet. You could have all these by setting specific times and make a

schedule for you and your family. By having the schedule youcan divided the time you need to complete any works thatneeded to be done and you also have time for your family.

This is as that you are telling your family that you are here for

them but right now you need to complete some works and whiledoing this work you shouldnt be disturb unless there are reallyserious matter that needed your attention or that matter canonly be solve by you. Only at these times you can be disturb andnot your family will not disturb just for fun.

By accurately dividing the time you have, the feeling of being

neglected will not be around. The bond between you and yourfamily will be as tight as ever.

Set some ground rules for all parties.

    Dont forget play time.

Online courses can be intense sometimes, especially if you participate

in more than one course. With all the paper works and assignments that needed to be done, it

might be stressful to your mind and body, so dont get caught up withall these because if you do caught up this will effect you and yourfamily.

So, the important thing is that you must balance your study time and

your play time. You must put aside some time for you and your family. For example, you can setup a family night with your children. During

this family night you can play indoor games with your children. You also should setup a date night with your wife, where you can go

for a romantic candle night dinner with just you and your wife.

By doing this, it not just going to put you into a good mood, but also toyour children and wife.

When you are participating in online courses, you are technically a student.

This could be beneficial especially if you have a son or a daughter who is at thesame time a student. When completing any assignments, you can complete them by doing it with

your children. You and your children can accomplished this by sitting togetheron the table. You can do any jobs that needed to be done and at the same timeyou can observe and assist your children doing their works.

While studying together, you can prepare some nutritious snacks and playrelaxing music. These could help you and your to get into the studying mood.

When you study together, its a win-win situation. This is because your childrencan mimic your study skills and this could increase his or her grades.

The benefit on your side is that you can spend some time and keep an eye onthem.

    Be an example.

You must not get yourself too involved in your courses and dont

show that you are in a very stressful condition because of yourcourses.

You must let your family know that you are doing somethingmeaningful and let them know that you need to get this done.

When you come across something exciting in your studies,

discuss it with your family during family dinned or when youdrive children to school. You also should involve your spouse in your studies. Maybe she

can gives you some excellent ideas in completing your studies. By sharing the burden in your studies, youll appreciate the

chance that come along after that.

Involve your family in your learning.

    2. Attack your textbook with sticky notes.Post-it note is something which has many

uses.We can use post-it note to write anysummarization that we have made on thechapter and paste it on the book.

When we have read the entire chapter andwe also have made the necessarysummarization on each topic, we can just goback and review the post-it note.

By reading the post-it note, we not onlysave time but at the same time we can easilyfind the information that we needaccurately and in a short period of time.

    3. Use a graphic organizer to take notes whenyou read.We can also a graphic organizer to organize

any information that we have gather when wedid our research. The graphic organizer allows us to recordimportant terms, ideas, notes and summaries

that we have gathered. We can do this by fillingthe form with the information that we havegathered. Then, we can use the organizer tohelp us study for our test.An example of a graphic organizer is the

Cornell notes worksheets. The graphic organizer also allows us to quizourselves on a particular information by foldingthe answers upside down.

    4. Make your own practice notes.

When we have finish reading a book, we cantest our knowledge on the book by having a testthat we create on our own.In this test, we should include all the

vocabulary words, study questions, highlightedwords and any other information that we finduseful and important.By having this test, we can access ourknowledge regarding to the information in the

book.If we fail this test, then we should review thebook back and do some more reading.

    5. Create visual flashcards. The use of flashcards have been under estimated,it is not just for primary students but it can help us alot as a college students.

Flashcards can help us to remember importantterms, people, places and dates in a much easierway. What we must do is that to write down the term orquestions we need to answer and draw a picture that

will help us to remember the item that we havewrote. The drawing will play an important role inhelping us to remember the term because it isalmost impossible to draw something that we dontfully understand. At the back of the card, we must write down the

definition of the term or the answer to our question. Before our actual test, we can review these cardsand quiz ourselves . This will help in rememberingany terms or questions that might come out in thetest.

As an online student staying motivated is among the most difficultelement that we must encounter.

This is because there is no one who monitor our movements andreactions. Because of this it is easy to go astray and become distracted

from our studies. We mustn't let this distraction get worst or we might end failing our

course. This is why we must always be motivated in our course.

Below are five motivational tips for us in order to focus on our task:

    1. Connect with your classmates. We should always be connected with our classmates.

Although it might just be a visual meeting, we should alwaysinteract with them.If possible, we also should organize a physical study group

at certain places like a restaurant or a bookshop.Other way for us to interact is by having an online supportgroup of peers.By having this group, we can monitor each other worksand one person can reap the benefits of being accountableas well.

    2. Discuss what you learn.

We also should find someone who has similarinterests or who would enjoy hearing about ourstudies. This particular person can be someone

who is outside of our classroom. We can tell him or her about our studies andmaybe from the responds that we receive wemight understand the course better. It is also can be a kind exercise because when

we say out loud the materials, we would have

better understanding or the matter and at thesame time we will be motivated to stay on taskin hand.It is like hitting two birds with just one stone.

    16/31

    3. Chart your progress. We also can make a progress chart ofcompleted classes and post the chart where you

can easily see and access it.With the easy accessibility to the chart, there

will be a feeling of satisfaction that comes from

within yourself and you will always feelmotivated. When we encounter any difficulty during ourcourse, we can always turn to the chart and

    what we have accomplished.

  • 8/10/2019 Oumh1103 Learning Skill

    17/31

    4. Reward yourself.By having done so much in our courses, we

should take some time to reward or pamperourselves. We can set up a reward system where we

would reward ourselves when ever we

accomplished a task. The reward which we will can be adjusted into

what we have achieved. The bigger theachievement, the bigger the reward wellreceive. This reward also might be the extra push that

    we need to succeed.

    18/31

    5. Take time for fun. With all the hard work that we have in this

course, we mustnt forget to have fun. This is because we mustnt get too stress out, because if we do. Its bad news to all, not just toourselves but also to our family.Because of this we need some time to re-group. We must take some time to dosomething weve always love to do i.e. fishing,

watching movies, watch sports and others.By taking some time for fun also might help to

be more productive when we return to work.

lecturer in the classroom. They usually dont take notes during lectures because they have a special ability

to remember everything that the lecturer says. They can achieve a lot by having intelligent conversation between themselves

and the lecturer. Audial learners main weakness is reading. Reading can make them go astray

and they might end up reading the same material again and again.

Audial learners strategies. Tape your classes. This recorded lecture will helps the audial learners keep
