COVID-19 is a public health crisis. Akey part of an effective strategy to contain thespread of the virus is ensuring state residentscan get free, high-quality care, which is why theNM Office of the Superintendent of Insurance(OSI) is requiring health plans to cover COVID-19testing and treatment free of charge to theircustomers. Services related to testing, like facilityfees, must also be free. Even if a test comesback negative, you cannot be charged.
OSI's order applies to major medical privatehealth plans. Self-funded plans (or ERISA groupplans) are not regulated by OSI, but theSuperintendent is more than willing to work withyour employer to make sure these services arecovered.
