Orthopedics

Chronic joint pain, and the reduction in activity and mobility it causes, can lead to isolation, depression and even drug dependence for many people. Surgery and rehabilitation transforms lives by returning patients to their normal lifestyles and significantly reducing—and even eliminating—debilitating pain.

You can help Mercy restore the quality of life for patients with a philanthropic gift to support Methodist Hospital’s orthopedics. The hospital seeks to enhance its already renowned program with innovative equipment and aesthetic improvements that will further improve patient outcomes as well as expand its capacity to provide speciality orthopedics services to Northern California residents. Specific needs include:

State-of-the-art equipment

Philanthropic support will enable Methodist Hospital to acquire a surgical tool that will enhance surgical precision, shorten the time patients spend under anesthesia and decrease the length of hospitalization. Patients can return to their regular activities faster and have better long-term outcomes.

Methodist Hospital also seeks funding for a state-of-the-art fluid system that dramatically improves the environment for operating room nurses and other staff during surgery, enabling Mercy to provide orthopedic services to a greater number of patients.

Patient and family waiting room enhancements

The orthopedics surgical waiting area needs significant updating to make it a more comfortable and welcoming space for families and friends waiting for loved ones undergoing surgery. Philanthropic funds are needed to create a more private and soothing environment through remodeling and aesthetic upgrades such as paint, furniture and carpet.

—Dr. Stephen Howell

I simply had no idea how much my knee pain and mobility issues affected my daily lifestyle, and I could not have foreseen what a dramatic, positive change in lifestyle I would have after surgery. I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional work by Dr. Howell and Mercy. As the needs for orthopedic treatments increase for Baby Boomers like me, I am committed to supporting this important work. I made a philanthropic gift to Mercy Foundation to support orthopedics and hope others also will contribute. I know from personal experience that charitable support will result in dramatic lifestyle changes for thousands of people.
