10 :: publisher’s note

> Spring is in the air

once again and the seasonality

of the weather always seems

to remind us that we should

enjoy our life each moment of

every day. Time seems to fly by

and we need to reflect on those

things which are important to

us, those precious moments we

sometimes tend to overlook, or

barely notice when we become

tied up with work, or the worries brought

on by stagnation in the economy.

Realizing that it is difficult to overcome the

obstacles which influence our lives like the

economy, our job, the weather, or health

related issues, we might be better served

by embracing those personal joys and ap-

preciating the little things we usually take

for granted. A simple event like receiving a

phone call and seeing that our husband, wife,

child, or friend is on the other end should

let us know that someone close is thinking

about us. Engaging in friendly dialogue can

be uplifting and we think everyone should

allow more time for conversation with

loved ones, friends, or business contacts.

We at Orlando Style rely on your commu-

nication with us, either by voice or email

and we consider our readers and advertis-

ers our most valuable assets. We welcome

your thoughts, criticism, suggestions, and

constantly work at fine tuning our product

so that we may continue delivering value to

you each and every month either in hard

copy print or on our websites served by

our behind-the-scene assets of our staff

writers, graphics design specialists, photog-

raphers, editor-in-chief and of course yours

truly. All of us at the magazine thank you for

your loyalty and patronage through your

subscriptions over the years and appreciate

your spreading the word to include your

friends and neighbors, so that they may be-

come part of our family.

We know you will enjoy this issue of Or-

lando Style, which again has something for

everyone. The guys will enjoy our timely,

great article in the business section “Or-

lando Now.” Gals of all ages will enjoy the

beautiful beachwear from locally situated

Martin Capristan’s designs and from the

down-under land of Australia. Also, be sure

to check out the latest reporting in the

restaurant section along with “What’s In

and Out” in central Florida. Finally, (often

imitated but never equaled) be certain to

peruse our “Cool Shots” pix highlighting all

the recent social events in and around our

community; you might even spot yourself in

one of the photos!<

Sincerely,

Sven J. Bode

>This may come as a shock, but bigger isn’t necessarily better. Everything from our smart phones to our dinner portions are smaller. Today, everyone is looking for ways to cut back. The world is downsizing and handbags are no exception. While our gallon-sized hobos and Army tank totes still have a very secure spot in our wardrobe, the satchel is quickly becoming an everyday contender. Between the sensible size and chic appeal, the satchel is the go-to bag of today’s most fashion-forward celebrities. The fashion paradigm has shifted by way of the satchel- the petite predecessor of the hobo.

the Cross Body Satchel:

Arguably the most ver-satile of handbag styles, the cross body satchel is the hybrid of the satchel and the messenger. Ideal for ev-eryday use, the messenger strap can be detached for a clean, sleek look or worn across the body. This spring, Mulberry de-livers this innovative design with the Alexa, named after model Alexa Chung. The Alexa has been spotted everywhere from Fifth Avenue to Sundance Film Festival. Perfect in it’s simplicity, the Alexa is on it’s way to becoming a wardrobe mainstay. Stars such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Charlize Theron have donned the English luxury brand. Made with soft buffalo leather, the Alexa is also available in white calf hair.

Viktor & Rolf’s “Just In Case” Bag:

This spring, Viktor & Rolf debuted the “Just In Case” satchel, a gilded-cornered bag that has caught the attention of A-listers such as Jessica Alba and recent convert, Anne Hathaway. The Amsterdam-based fashion house, known for the women’s fragrance,

Flowerbomb, has established their seat in the fashion arena with their impeccable tailoring of both their men’s and women’s ready-to-wear lines. This spring, they extend their design range and experiment with the leather goods market with this season’s bags. The “Just In Case” is the mid-size satchel of the “Case” trifecta, which includes the “Compact Case” clutch and the large “Day Tripper Case,” all made from natural-grain calfskin leather. Through inventive design and functionality, the “Just In Case” bag has already reached cult status. Viktor & Rolf score major brownie points with the hand-bag’s construction, boasting ample room to stow away this season’s must-haves, you know...just in case.

Valentino lace & Straw Satchel:

The fusion of the bag and the boudoir cul-minate with Valentino’s springtime sweetie, the Lace & Straw Satchel. Black lace and somber nudes dominate the Italian luxury brand’s Resort collection. These elements manifest themselves beautifully in this sea-son’s most coveted bag. Stars such as Jen-nifer Love Hewitt love the lace overlay and micro woven straw detailing, that ushers in the romance of spring.

Proenza Schouler Spring ‘11 leather Satchel:

Gracing the shoulders of Kate Walsh, Liv Tyler and Mary-Kate Olsen is Proenza Schouler’s spring 2011 gem, the PS1 leather satchel. Utilitarian as it is beautiful, the PS1 satchel can be worn as a messenger, and de-livers serious street-style appeal. Whether they’re being photographed at the airport or shopping on Melrose, this bag is just as famous as the celebrity wearing it. It’s ver-satility and size makes the PS1 ideal for day or night.

Chloe marcie Shoulder Satchel:

Chloe, the modern feminine French line, made famous by Brigritte Bardot and Jac-queline Kennedy Onassis, debuts the Marcie shoulder satchel this spring. The horse shoe design and buttery, calfskin leather oozes luxury, making the Marcie the it-bag for Ra-chel Bilson and Katie Holmes. The wrapped, whipstitch handle and the voluptuous curve of the lines and frame make this a timeless piece. Sleek and effortless, the Marcie wears comfortably on the shoulder and on the arm.

Hermès Birkin:

You know you’ve hit it big if you have a Bir-kin. Named after actress Jane Birkin, this Hermès staple is the Bugatti of all luxury satchels. The secret to Birkin’s iconic status lies in its rich materials and exclusivity. At one time, Hermès boasted a six-year wait-ing list for the hand-sewn artisan bag. The Birkin has been made from ostrich and is lined with goatskin that matches the cho-sen exterior color of the bag. Ranging from $9,000 to $280,000 the Birkin is the hand-bag of royalty and Hollywood’s elite.

Whether you carry it all or just the essen-tials, the satchel is the bag of the season. This spring, designers and celebrities alike are all drawn to its versatility and style. <

BETWEEN THE SENSIBLE SIZE AND CHIC APPEAL, THE SATCHEL IS

THE GO-TO BAG OF TODAY’S MOST FASHION-FORWARD CELEBRITIES.

> Looking for a quick vacation getaway filled with ex-citement, nightlife, pampered service, games of chance and relaxation? Hop a quick, 50-minute flight from Orlando to the Bahamas and check into the Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino situated on a 1000’ shoreline of silica silk white sand at Cable Beach.

This kid-friendly vacation oasis has it all with over 550 rooms and suites, all with private balconies providing ei-ther island or water views, with each room containing a desk and high speed internet access for those requiring some office activity during their stay.

Conferences, meetings, wedding receptions and other celebratory affairs are amply serviced with over 30,000 sq. ft. of ‘Flexible Function Space,’ a massive 14,000 sq. ft. ballroom and a Rainforest Theatre, cumulatively capable of accommodating in excess of 1500 guests for almost any event conceivable. Professional convention planning man-agers and the finest in elegant catering ensure that your function will be smoothly successful from beginning to end. For smaller sized formal gatherings or meetings, there are twelve function rooms also available, each containing the same exceptional attention as given the larger affairs.

Once settled, it’s not a bad idea to refresh with a pool dip or a swim in the private lagoon. Beach lovers can stroll on the sandy shoreline and stop for a cool, refreshing drink at the beachfront frozen beverage bar, “Da Daq Shaq,” named for its vast menu of shaved ice frozen daiquiris, a rum, lime and sweetener based cocktail. This concoction originally thought to have been invented around 1900 by a group of American mining engineers in a bar named ‘Venus’, in San-tiago, Cuba. Coincidentally, there is a beach near Santiago,

also named Daiquiri!

Beginning to get the ‘munchies’? The Palace has nine restaurants and lounges, which com-pliment the huge Las Vegas style casino. Our favorites include the “Black Angus Grille,” “Moso,” the aforementioned “Da Daq Shaq” and “22 Above Lounge.”

At “Black Angus,” we shared a ‘starter’ of Prime Rib Tacos, a combination of season-ally spiced shredded rib meat and cheeses wrapped in corn tortillas. Next, a “Junkyard

Salad” prepared and tossed tableside containing an eclec-tic mix of lettuce, a variety of fresh veggies, olives, egg, fried onions and capers, enhanced with a zesty Parmesan dress-

ing. Steak lovers can choose among center cuts of beef ranging from 6 oz. Petite Filet to the 48 oz. Double Porterhouse (for those with insatiable appetites!). Not a steak and potatoes person? Not to be concerned because you can choose from a vast array of Special Entrees featuring fresh Lobster, Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Grouper, Chicken, Ribs and Rack of Lamb.

If you’re in the mood for Thai, Japanese or Chinese Cuisine, try the casual, family-style Asian restaurant “Moso,” on the second floor overlooking the ocean, where all dish-es are prepared to be shared…a perfect setting for families or groups of friends. After a busy day of activities and a lovely dinner, seek out the “22 Above Lounge”

overlooking the Casino. Here, you can relax and enjoy sipping a favorite cocktail, spe-cialty martini or a glass of excellent wine. Those wishing to display their dancing skills can take in the live musical entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, beginning at 9:30 P.M.

It stands to reason that no visit would be complete without making an attempt to have ‘lady luck’ shine on us and since gam-bling is legal here in the Bahamas, ‘action’ can be found only steps away from all the other amenities this Resort has to offer. Games of chance like Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Pai Gao Poker and of course the ‘Slots,’ offer the opportunity to have our va-cations paid for. Chances are you will need

to think again because the odds are in favor of the “House” and unless one is extremely lucky, money can be lost in a flash. Still, for those that are smart enough to control their emotions (and their pocketbooks) it can be fun trying to win a few bucks at the tables without going overboard. Also, from time to time you might catch a glimpse of a famous actor or entertainer hobnobbing with the crowd, reinforcing the notion that human beings, regardless of status, are basi-cally structured similarly.

For a change of scenery, a short distance away is ‘Stuart Cove’s Aqua Adventures’, Nassau’s premier attraction offering com-plete water-based activities. Owned and op-erated by husband and wife team Stuart and

Michelle, this is the place to deep sea dive, snorkel, pilot your personal SUB (sort of like driving an underwater motorcycle), Fin Photo Record (video and digital recording of your underwater activities), and a host of other water adventures.

Take the kids to Blue Lagoon Island where everyone can enjoy swimming in the calm lagoon, play volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, board games, etc. Rent a water bike or take the “Swim with the Dolphins” tour, which includes a dolphin orientation, animal train-ing techniques and other important guide-lines. Don a lifejacket and then enjoy the experience of their gentleness as you hold a dolphin in your arms as you dance, sing and frolic with these magnificent creatures.

Hold on as you are taken for a swift ride across the lagoon during the finale, referred to as the footpush! All this will be captured on video as your remembrance of a truly unforgettable experience.

If you’re looking for a neat and funky place to party, which caters to the young and the old, sashay on downtown to Senor Frog’s for drinks, good food and entertainment. This change of pace gets you involved with the locals and you will learn that these folks know how to have fun. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”! <

> Organic food is one of the fastest-growing categories in the food industry, despite the fact that it can cost more than double the price of conventional foods. But is it worth spending more when it comes to buying organic? Nutritionist Joy Bauer tells us what organic really means, what the vari-ous “organic” and “natural” food labels mean, and what organic food we should buy. Here are Bauer’s tips for organic shopping:

Almost two-thirds of American consumers bought some type of organic food or bever-age last year, up from about half in 2004. And they usually spend about 50 percent or 100 percent more for these organic products. But is it worth it? Yes and no. The U.S. De-partment of Agriculture has found that even after you wash certain fruits and vegetables, they still contain much higher levels of pesti-cide residue than others. This includes apples, berries, grapes, spinach, and potatoes. On the other hand, that’s not true for bananas, man-gos, or corn. Here are some facts to help you decide what organic, or natural, foods you should buy:

WHAT ORGANIC MEANS:

¨ Animals have not been treated with: an-tibiotics, growth hormones, or feed made from animal by-products.

¨ Animals must have been fed organic feed for at least a year.

¨ Animals must have access to the out-doors.

¨ Food hasn’t been genetically modified or irradiated.

¨ Fertilizer does not contain sewage sludge or synthetic ingredients.

¨ Produce hasn’t been contaminated with synthetic chemicals used as pesticides.

WHAT THE LABELS MEAN:

¨ “100% Organic”: Product must contain 100 percent organic ingredients.

¨ “Organic”: At least 95 percent of ingredi-ents are organically produced.

¨ “Made with Organic Ingredients”: At least 70 percent of ingredients are organic. The

remaining 30 percent must come from the USDA’s approved list.

¨ “Free-range” or “Free-roaming”: Mislead-ing term applied to chicken, eggs and other meat. The animal did not necessarily spend a good portion of its life outdoors. The rule states only that outdoor access be made available for “an undetermined period each day.” U.S. government standards are weak in this area.

¨ “Natural” or “All Natural”: Does not mean organic. There is no standard defini-tion for this term except with meat and poultry products. (USDA defines “natural” as not containing any artificial flavoring, colors, chemical preservatives, or synthetic ingredi-ents). The claim is not verified. The producer or manufacturer alone decides whether to use it.

THE “DIRTY DOZEN”: MUST-BUY ORGANIC FOODS

Fruit

¨ Apples¨ Cherries¨Grapes, imported (Chili)¨ Nectarines¨ Peaches¨ Pears¨Raspberries¨Strawberries

Vegetables

¨ Bell peppers¨ Celery¨ Potatoes¨ Spinach

The U.S. Department of Agriculture found that even after washing, some fruits and vegetables consistently carry much higher levels of pesticide residue than others. Based on an analysis of more than 100,000 U.S. government pesticide test results, researchers at the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a research and advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., have developed the “dirty dozen” fruits and vegetables, above, that they say you should always buy organic, if possible, because their conventionally grown counterparts tend to be laden with pesticides. They cost about 50 percent more - but are well worth the money.

OTHER ORGANIC FOODS WORTH CON-SIDERING:

¨ Milk ¨ Beef¨ Poultry

Reduce the risk of exposure to the agent believed to cause mad cow disease and mini-mize exposure to other potential toxins in non-organic feed. These foods contain no hormones, and antibiotics — which have been linked to increased antibacterial resis-tance in humans — have not been added to the food. They often cost 100 percent more than conventional products.

NO NEED TO GO ORGANIC WITH THESE FOODS:

Fruit

¨ Bananas¨ Kiwi¨ Mangos¨ Papaya¨ Pineapple

Vegetables

¨ Asparagus¨ Avocado¨ Broccoli¨ Cauliflower¨ Corn¨ Onions¨ Peas

THESE PRODUCTS GENERALLY DO NOT CONTAIN PESTICIDE RESIDUE.

Seafood

Wild or farmed fish can be labeled organic, despite the presence of contaminants such as mercury and PCBs. No USDA organic cer-tification standards for seafood — produc-ers are allowed to make their own organic claims.

Cosmetics

Having “organic” or “natural” in its name doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safer. Only 11 percent of ingredients found in personal-care products, organic or not, have ever been screened for safety.

MANAGING THE HIGH COST OF ORGANIC FOODS:

Why does organic cost more?

Growing the food is more labor-intensive. And even though organic food is a growing industry, it doesn’t have the economies of scale or government subsidies available to conventional growers.

HOW TO SAVE MONEY BUYING ORGANIC FOOD:

¨ Comparison shop in local grocery stores.

¨ Take advantage of local farmers’ markets: Many farmers do not charge a premium.

¨ Order by mail: Products such as organic beef can be shipped nationally.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM “NON-ORGANIC” PESTICIDES:

Produce

¨ Buy fresh vegetables and fruits in season. When long storage and long-distance ship-ping are not required, fewer pesticides are used.

¨ Trim tops and the very outer portions of celery, lettuce, cabbages, and other leafy vegetables that may contain the bulk of pes-ticide residues.

¨ Peel and cook when appropriate, even though some nutrients and fiber are lost in the process.

¨ Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegeta-bles. This would limit exposure to any one type of pesticide residue.

¨ Purchase only fruits and vegetables that are subject to USDA regulations. Produce imported from other countries is not grown

under the same regulations as enforced by the USDA. Examples are strawberries and cantaloupes from Mexico.

¨ Wait until just before preparation to wash or immerse your produce in clean wa-ter. When appropriate, scrub with a brush. Experts at the University of California-Berkeley report that this removes nearly all insects and dirt, as well as bacteria and some pesticide residues.

¨ Special soaps or washes are not needed and could be harmful to you, depending on their ingredients. Read the label! Cold wa-ter is perfectly fine.

Meats/poultry/fish

¨ Trim the fat from meat, and fat and skin from poultry and fish. Residues of some pesticides concentrate in animal fat.

> Whether the goal is maintaining a healthy lifestyle or working on how to get that killer body, keeping track of what goes in your body can be a challenge. Often times, strict diets can restrict nutrients that are essential for good health. The “right vita-mins” can be your friends when consumed in the “right dosage.” Your Dr. can help you figure out what nutrients your body may be lacking through a quick blood test, and for osteoporosis, a bone density test. These vitamins can become true heroes in regards to “your” individual health.

Daily multivitamins are not your only op-tion. According to the Nutrition Business Journal, America consumed $9 billion in vitamins last year alone, but surprisingly enough most of the vitamins you need are found in the foods you consume everyday.

Vitamin C is the longevity vitamin. Present in most citrus fruits and vegetables, this vi-tamin has gained a reputation for prevent-ing the infamous cold we’d all like to avoid. Although the correlation between ingestion of vitamin C and prevention of a cold hasn’t been proven, scientists have associated it with prevention of cardiovascular disease, age-related muscular degeneration and cataracts.

Vitamin A is good for hair and skin. Great sources of vitamin A can be found in meat,

milk, eggs, carrots, spinach and avocados, which help skin from aging and decreases dryness. It also produces healthy scalp sebum.

A good workout can solve many problems, but what if you’re lacking the energy? Inges-tion of vitamin B12 promotes good energy levels, reducing fatigue. It also helps with the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats and is required for proper digestion. You can find vitamin B12 in fish, shellfish, liver, eggs and milk.

Vitamin D is one of the few vitamins that can’t be found in abundance through foods. Though sometimes seen as the bad guy for causing skin cancer, moderate exposure to sunlight is good for meeting your daily vita-min D needs. Research suggests vitamin D plays a major role in prevention of diabetes, osteoporosis and hypertension. Who would think 20-30 minutes a day under natural sunlight could do so much for your health?

With such a wide variety of vitamins out there, the only work on your part is ex-posing your body to the right amount and enjoying the benefits. Include an array of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, fat free or low fat dairy, whole grains and healthy fats such as olive oil and nuts in your daily diet to get the most of the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.<

Vital Nutrients FOR A HEALTHY LIFE

By: Cathleen K. BodeCredits: Flavia Robinson

>> ASK Dr. PALCeSKi

I am considering getting a cos-metic procedure done. How do I go about selecting a qualified provider?

A: This is an area that I am very passionate about primarily because I see 2-3 patients per week that seek my help in correcting the mistakes that occur as a result of inadequately trained providers performing proce-dures that are outside of their scope of practice. When electing to do cos-metic procedures such as injectables or lasers, I would encourage you to seek out the expertise of either a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon. Physicians within these two specialties typically have more extensive training and exper-tise in performing these types of pro-cedures than any other type of phy-

sician. Seeking out an appropriately trained and well credentialed Derma-tologist or Plastic Surgeon will help ensure good results and will minimize the likelihood of complications. One final bit of advice, beware of specials that seem to good to be true. Instead, cut corners at the grocery store not on something as important as your face. You may pay a little more for it, but I am confident that the results will be well worth it.

Q: What are your favorite skin care lines or products? Anything you can’t live without?

A: A good skin care regimen is like food for your skin and is vital to maintaining that healthy glow. At our office, we spent several years

hand selecting products we feel to be the best on the market. Some of my personal favorites include Vivite®, Neocutis®, and Glytone®. As for products I personally can’t live with-out… a great sunscreen, Retin-A, and my Clarisonic® brush.

Noble M600

UTILIZING EXTENSIVE WIND TUNNEL TESTING, THEY

HAVE STRIVED TO MAINTAIN THE FORM TO BE AS

MINIMALIST AS POSSIBLE WHILST PROVIDING THE

ULTIMATE AERODYNAMIC AND COOLING EFFICIENCY.

”“

Page 41: Orlando Style Magazine March 2011

> The ethos of the Noble M600 has de-

veloped from a small team passionate about

driving. This evolved from research of the

available “supercars” of which lean heavily

on computer assistance. The use of fashion-

able but often inefficient gear paddle shift,

over assisted brakes and inopportune trac-

tion control have all become standard fea-

tures of the modern day supercar.

Noble Automotive thought it’s time to

break the mould, feeling that this now ubiq-

uitous “digital” driver assistance disengages

and negates the driver experience and re-

ward. They have experienced, when turning

off these devices, computer generated sup-

port can often cosmetically mask and flatter

inferior chassis and handling characteristics.

Noble Automotive decided that with the in-

troduction of the M600 it was time to “get

back to basics,” to concentrate on the more

“analogue” qualities of design by utilizing a

principle of pure engineering integrity from

the chassis up, putting the driver back in

control.

The philosophy behind this radical and re-

freshing premise is best summed by Peter

Dyson, owner of Noble Automotive Lim-

ited:

“Noble is a labour of love, of no compro-

mises and of challenges fought. The car

speaks for itself, and absolutely reflects

what the Team and I envision a true driver’s

car should be. It is no question uniquely

“out of sync” in today’s world, one overrun

with cars that cannot make up their minds

as to whether they want to be a car that

rewards or a car that gives hollow praise by

electronically “covering” the errors.

Designed and engineered with a purity that

rewards driver skill, the M600 is neither

dictated to nor hindered by unnecessary

computer assistance. It puts you back in

the driving seat.

Put simply the Noble M600 is for those of

us who love to drive....

Design is of course subjective, beauty is cer-

tainly in the eye of the beholder. However

there are certain design absolutes, particu-

larly when creating a supercar featuring such

massive power and performance, which

dictate, in order to have full aerodynamic

and cooling efficiency certain design criteria

must be met.

It’s their belief that form should always fol-

low function, there is much in the philoso-

phy “if it looks right it probably is right.”

Utilizing extensive wind tunnel testing they

have strived to maintain the form to be as

minimalist as possible whilst providing the

ultimate aerodynamic and cooling efficiency.

Nothing is cosmetic: every element of the

shape and design is intrinsic to the effective-

ness of the performance.

Noble Automotive feels that the “purity”

of design gives the M600 an understated

purposeful gravitas that stands out in the

crowd. <

> Being a Realtor in a tough market is certainly a challenge.

Having been in the business for several years I am constantly

amazed at how much there is still to learn. By staying in touch

with past clients and current ones it has broadened my horizons

farther than could have imagined.

With the help of my broker, Tony Hubbard and the vast resources

and tools he provides at Coldwell Banker Tony Hubbard Realty, it

does make this job much easier.

Being a part of Coldwell Banker Previews is one of the ways I

have stepped out away the rest to make a name for myself. Not

only in South Lake County, Clermont to be specific but in the

Central Florida area.

The exclusive group of certified Previews® Property Specialists

make up less than 10 percent of the more than 117,000 Coldwell

Banker Sales Associates worldwide

I was also awarded with the FIVE STAR SERVICE PROFFESION-

AL for overall customer satisfaction. I scored among the highest

in overall satisfaction in my market area based in research with

clients, peers and industry leaders. This is an exclusive award,

given to only 7 percent of professionals in a given industry and

market area.

With hard work and determination I have found my niche in real

estate and I can’t imagine doing anything else. Helping families

that are in distress or families getting the home of their dreams

at a GREAT price is always a good feeling. It keeps you going

every day. I am so blessed and thankful to be in Central Florida

and doing what I love.

It is very important to me to make myself accessible to my cli-

ents. They have busy lives as well. I want to make this process as

easy for them as possible. The real estate market has taken so

many twists and turns that I want to ease my clients anxiety as

much as I can. Having had unprecedented amount of success with

short sales. With the market inundated with them, I have made it

a goal to go above and beyond for my clients. I became a Certi-

fied Foreclosure Specialist, as well as a Certified HAFA Specialist.

It is always hard for a family to make the decision to stop paying

on their home and it is very important to me to make it as easy

on them as I can. <

> I think many of us will admit that we have used cell phones to either: talk, text, or email while driving. I also believe we can admit that it can be very distracting! How-ever, in today’s technological age and from a business perspective, immediate access to information is essential to running an effi-cient and effective business. Likewise, from an attorney’s prospective; I have seen first-hand the damage that can be caused to not only property, but also individuals and their families by distracted drivers. Whether the distraction is caused by a cell phone, a GPS device, reading a book, watching a DVD, personal grooming, application of ‘make-up’, misbehaving children, consuming food, or even alcohol or drugs; the results can be devastating if not deadly.

Some of our State Representatives have re-quested legislation to address the issue of ‘texting and driving.’ (For example, Senate Bill 158). There are clearly a myriad of ap-proaches that can be considered to address the issue: a total cell phone ban while driv-ing; a law limiting a driver’s use of cell phones and messaging devices (require ‘hands-free’ devices); or a total ban on texting but not outlawing phone calls by drivers’ are just a few options.

What must be determined is how to ad-dress ‘distractions.’ Should punishment be criminal and subject the offender to jail and fines? Or if a law is imposed should it be a nonmoving traffic violation with a fine? Or should it be a moving traffic violation with a fine and points assessed against a driver’s li-cense? If a law is passed, two concerns arise. First, would the law create yet another basis for a traffic stop which puts both the driver and officer at risk? According to the Florida Highway Patrol in conjunction with the De-partment of Highway Safety and Motor Ve-hicles, during a period from 1996 to 2000, motorists in Florida crashed into working law enforcement vehicles that were either stopped or parked along Florida roadways 1,793 times, resulting in five deaths and 419 injuries. We have all seen the “MOVE OVER LAW” signs on the highway; but we have also seen that very few people actually “move over.” This brings me to the second concern: Would the law likely have any de-terrence?

Florida Statute 316.1936 makes it a non-criminal moving traffic violation for any driver or passenger to possess or consume an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle operated in the State. Un-

fortunately, many drivers continue to be ac-cused of driving under the influence. It can be argued that the open container law was, at least in part, enacted to deter impaired drivers. In my experience, there seem to be vast number of people still being accused of DUIs in the Great State of Florida.

Some people claim they drive and text with-out even taking their eyes off the road. Many State and private agencies have policies in effect to deter or restrict their employees from distractions such as texting. So what is the solution? I think the only simple an-swer is: If you’re going to use your phone to call or text (or be distracted in any way); do the right thing and pull over or into a park-ing lot. This is the only guaranteed approach that will work. Drive safe Orlando! <

> Orlando is a world-renowned brand that puts smiles on the faces of families and creates excitement for all ages. In 2010, we decided that our company, the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bu-reau, Inc. (Orlando/Orange County CVB), needed a new identity; one that reflected our number one goal; to bring business and leisure travelers to Orlando. On December 17, during our 2010 Annual Meeting we an-nounced that we changed our name to Visit Orlando. It is the job of our team to showcase our great destination to consumers. More than 46 million came in 2009 to experience all that Orlando has to offer. Our new name – Visit Orlando – reflects our organization’s mission and strategic focus of increasing overnight leisure and business visitation to the destination through worldwide sales and marketing initiatives. The change also reflects a shift within destination marketing organizations to adopt simpler, more rel-evant names for a global audience. The bottom line is that ‘CVB’ doesn’t have the same recognition and meaning as it once did in today’s lexicon. It doesn’t reflect the vibrancy of the Orlando experience or the focus of the organization. To ensure our on-going global success, we wanted a 21st cen-tury name that would be easy to remember and enunciate, and ultimately communicate the desired action we hope consumers, meeting professionals and meeting attend-ees take – to visit Orlando. Extensive research was conducted through focus groups and quantitative research with consumers, travel professionals and meeting professionals to ensure that Visit Orlando would convey a positive message for the

destination and be understood throughout the world. The new name also positions the company to have one name globally. Along with a new name, a new company logo is currently being designed and will be un-veiled soon. Additionally, a newly updated Orlando logo will be unveiled. So what does this mean for Orlando resi-dents? We hope that residents and visitors will better understand the focus of the organization and what we do on a daily basis. Ultimately, Visit Orlando is the com-munities’ destination marketing organiza-tion. We work for the benefit of our com-munity, partners and funding partners. We are proud to represent the number one destination in Orlando and an industry that supports more than 400,000 jobs. And for every 85 incremental visitors, we create one new job. In addition, in March we’ll launch a new ver-sion of our website VisitOrlando.com. This new website has greater information and tools for visitors, but it’s also a wonderful resource for residents. I encourage you to check out the new site and see what great amenities for residents the hospitality in-dustry has created. You may be surprised by all the things there are to do right in your own backyard. For more information on Visit Orlando go to VisitOrlando.com <Introducing

> Frank Hamner never thought about being a lawyer growing up. As a child, his parents took him camping in state and national parks all over the country, prompting such a love for the outdoors that he always wanted to be a park ranger. Even before graduating from high school, he answered his call for adventure by enlisting in the United States Navy. After an exemplary enlisted career, Frank was chosen for a commissioning program available to only the top 5% of all enlisted personnel. He attended Auburn University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and embarking on a Naval career that would span some 22 years.

It was only when he left active duty that he began looking for a second career. By this time, he had married a local Winter Park girl, Lauren Frey, and was heavily influenced by his admiration for her father, Lou, to follow in his footsteps and seek a law degree. Graduating in 1995 from the University of Florida College of Law, he was a Presidential Scholar, Trial Team Outstanding Graduate and Attorney General of the Student Honor Court.

In the sixteen years since, Frank honed his skills as a litigator at one of the state’s largest and most prestigious law firms where he represented clients like Westinghouse and Lexmark in trials in both state and federal court, then starting his own practice, Frank A. Hamner, P.A. AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell, he is listed in their Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and has been featured in the Orlando Business Journal, Florida Trend magazine and Orlando Home and Leisure magazine as a top litigation lawyer.

Frank focuses his practice on two fronts: a top shelf litigation practice focused on commercial and construction litigation and serving as in-house counsel to the Holler family, one of the pillars of the central Florida community, for their real estate and automotive dealership operations. He has teamed up with Attorney Brad Hester to further provide the highest level of real estate services to his clients in both the commercial and residential markets.

In his limited spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing and spending time with his wife and five daughters. Frank takes great pride in his practice and looks forward to helping his clients utilize his experience and ability to navigate their way to the best possible, and most cost effective, resolution of their case.<

68 :: spotlight on the law

> The irS & TAx LAW BY MARK L. HORWITZ

> The IRS contends that the tax system is voluntary however, it prosecutes those who inten-tionally do not pay taxes.

An IRS criminal investigator is required to identify himself when interviewing a person under criminal investigation and to tell that person of their right to have an attorney present and that any-thing said may be used in a crimi-nal case.

While the amount of tax due is part of a criminal investigation, it is not the primary factor. The criminal investigator’s primary purpose is to determine if crimi-nal charges can be filed.

A person often learns of a crimi-nal tax investigation when inves-tigators appear without an ap-pointment for an interview. The

investigators routinely plan the questions after doing a prelimi-nary investigation. Often the un-announced visit will result in an interview without the benefit of having an attorney present.

Any mistake or mis-recollection of facts can be interpreted as an intentional false statement which will factor prominently in the government’s contention that the taxpayer acted willfully to evade tax laws. Mistakes or perceived lies increase the chance of crimi-nal prosecution.

When an individual speaks with an investigator the following may happen: the person may make a mistake when questioned about events that occurred years pre-viously; the investigator may not understand the answers correctly or may make a mistake in taking

notes; or on rare occasions, an in-vestigator may falsify the report.

It is interesting to note that the IRS investigators do not usu-ally record the interviews. While there may be various reasons for not recording an interview, one reason is that at a trial, a defen-dant will be faced with what the investigator claims was said, rath-er than what was actually said and recorded. The law recognizes that anyone dealing with the IRS has the right to an attorney.

Dealing directly with the IRS without a lawyer experienced in criminal tax matters poses signifi-cant risks that can result in the increased likelihood of criminal charges and may increase the risk of losing one’s freedom.<

> There’s a certain wonderful day in February that everyone spends with his or her sweetheart. And this year was the first in a while that I had someone special at home cooking dinner for me. Readers of this column know, a romantic evening at home is a rarity for someone like me. Orlando has so many great events and parties that I barely have time to change my clothes before the next big thing!

If you like bars with great views of downtown and signature cocktails, you would have loved the grand opening party for the 180 Grey Goose lounge on February 4th. Located on the rooftop of the Amway Center, this new lounge offers a new kind of luxury that I will be sure to take advantage of the next time that I attend an Orlando Magic game!

The Bridges of Light Foundation is an incredible charity that raises money to benefit children who have experienced serious hardships. Working with Bridges of Light Foundation and the PACE Center for Girls, which provides women with better opportunities for education and training, Boyz II Men put on an incredible sold-out concert at Heat Tandoor & Lounge in downtown Orlando. Heat is an ultra-modern lounge with great drinks and super tasty food, so this event sold-out fast, and for such a good cause!

I’m a sucker for 90s hits, and Sugar Ray’s “Fly” is no exception. I remember bobbing my head along with my girlfriends when ‘Fly’ was on all of our play lists. Lucky for us, Sugar Ray performed at Velvet Sessions on the 23rd of February. I know that I talk about Velvet Sessions pretty often, but if you haven’t been, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Sessions is practically an Orlando institution, with its relaxed and intimate counter-approach to the typical rock show.

Speaking of awesome things to do in Orlando, lets talk for a minute about Portofino Bay’s Harbor Nights Romantico. Think wine, food, chocolate and arias – all in a gorgeous Italian setting. But even if you couldn’t make it out on the 18th for Harbor Nights Romantico, you should just check out Portofino Bay on ANY night. Close your eyes while you’re eating a bite of lasagna from BICE, and you’ll swear that you were in Italy.

Classic and modern meet at the Festivals of Speed’s upcoming event at the Mission Inn Resort & Club from March 4th to the 6th. The Festivals of Speed puts together phenomenal events. They always have a ton of gorgeous luxury cars, which is why they’re telling people to come out and see all of the ‘rolling sculptures’. And if you’re not a car fanatic, you’ll still have a great time, enjoying the fine dining, golf, and skeet shooting.

One other event in March that I want to mention is the Baterbys 2011 Winter Auction. This auction will be a mix of pieces from globally renowned artists and locals who are selling their art on consignment. Baterbys has good taste, so if you’re an art lover, you can expect a great opportunity to bid on some beautiful pieces.

As usual, February is yet another month in Orlando that turned out to be a blast. Just tell the weather to warm it up a little though, it got a little too cold this past month – there were a few days when I had no choice but to put on a long-sleeve shirt! See you next month! <

> “I don’t tell the food what to do; I let

the food tell me what to do with it,” says

Chef Dan Kernan, Executive Chef of one

of Orlando’s most premier and upscale

restaurants, Vines Grille and Wine Bar. Lo-

cated in the affluent town of Dr. Phillips,

Vines Grille and Wine Bar brings not just

an atmosphere of sophistication and el-

egance to the community, but promotes a

culture to those who have passion for the

finest food and wine. Behind the scenes of

the live Jazz music and intimate ambiance,

the kitchen is where the mystic of Vines is

rooted and is where Dan Kernan leads his

talented team of chefs. “My theory is, with

the quality of food here, it doesn’t need to

be broken down. Food in its purest and

simplest form is the best way to eat it.”

Dan’s history with food is as simple as his

theory. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,

the only training Dan received growing up

was a cookbook, a big appetite, and an even

bigger sense of culinary creativity. Discov-

ering his love for food led him to spending

time in culinary school and landing his first

job in a kitchen. “I worked my way up in the

kitchen. I started at an upscale burger res-

taurant in Milwaukee at 16 years old, and

by 18 I was the executive chef.” Ever since

then, Dan brought his expertise to various

kitchens across the country from Milwau-

kee to Chicago, and finally making his way

to Orlando in 1986.

The quality behind what makes Vines best

known for their beef is the fact that it is

made specifically for them, to their specifi-

cations, hand cut and hand picked just for

Vines. “The attention to detail and the pre-

mium quality of our beef and fish is why

we are so well known,” Dan expresses,

“the owners allow us the freedom to be

creative with our recipes. It is a team ef-

fort and everyone has a say and input,”

Dan says in reference to his talented staff

of sous chefs, Edgaurdo and Aaron, pastry

chef, Lisnelia, and tournant chef, Randy.

From the start of Vines 8 years ago up un-

til this point, the word “passion” does no

justice to define the talent and enthusiasm

for culinary art that Dan and his staff of

exquisite chefs present everyday. “I can’t

do this job alone. I’m blessed that I’m for-

tunate enough to work with great people.”

There is no doubt that the passion Dan has

for food is put into every dish offered at

Vines.

Experience the culture of Vines Grille and

Wine Bar at 7533 W. Sand Lake Rd., Orlan-

do, FL, 32819 or call to make a reservation

> It’s official - money alone doesn’t buy happiness. A global Gallup poll found that, while life satisfaction rises with personal income, positive feelings are more strongly associated with other factors like feeling respected, having autonomy and social sup-port, and working at a fulfilling job. But, just how does one achieve these seemingly disparate goals and be genuinely happy? The answer is revealed in “The Plan” (pa-perback, $14.95 U.S.) – a precision how-to manual detailing specific steps required to achieve personal balance, career success and financial strength.

Co-authored by international business life coach John M. McKee and esteemed busi-ness consultant Helen Latimer, The Plan shows readers how to employ the same time-tested techniques used for decades

by many of the most successful individu-als, celebrities, and business organizations around the globe.

“There is a rampant misconception that being ‘successful’ will also lead one to be ‘satisfied,” said McKee. “While most can articulate what makes them feel successful, like their jobs, how much money they make or have, or the material possessions they own, it’s rare when someone will boast about how joyful they feel about their job or the relationships in their life. Many will lament that, although they ‘make a nice liv-ing,’ they did not follow aspirations they had as a child or young adult, or that they dread getting ‘back to the grind’ on Mon-days. This book changes all of that, helping readers achieve their heartfelt goals and experience true satisfaction in all facets of

their life, irrespective of current circum-stances.”

In addition to enlightening anecdotes and well-honed insights based on both authors’ personal and professional experiences, The Plan includes systematic worksheets, tools and exercises that help readers uncover and eliminate unproductive behaviors, and discern authentic feelings about their cur-rent life – the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Plan is available in select bookstores throughout the North America and the United Kingdom, or online at ThePlanSite.com, www.JohnMMcKee.com www.Ama-zon.com, www.BarnesandNoble.com and www.Chapters.Indigo.ca.<

> In London, Antonio Fattori proudly accepted the award for best single varietal wine under £10 at De-canter’s World Wine Awards 2010. His 2008 Fattori Motto Piane Soave DOC beat out 11,000 entries from throughout the world for the honor.

The Fattori winery was established in 1888 in Terrossa on the hills east of Verona. Its production is rooted in the quest to strike an ideal balance between a respect for tradition and a respect for innovation.

This award is the culmination of generations of ex-perience and long-term investments in new vineyards, the revitalization of old vineyards, winery equipment and low-temperature fermentation techniques.

The Garganega destined for Motto Piane is grown at 300 meters above sea level in the volcanic soils of Monte Calvarina. The grapes are dried for a month before pressing to concentrate Garganega’s unique characteristics. Separated into three lots, fermentation

takes place in large casks, tonneaux and steel. These wines are then artfully blended before bottling. The re-sulting wine is balanced with exotic stone fruit flavors and subtle, honeyed notes of marzipan.

“I believe in the potential of Garganega,” says Antonio Fattori, “and I have always had the desire to create and experiment in an effort to unite scientific method and innovation with our historic traditions. We are dedicated to the search for more vibrant and attrac-tive wines with the characteristic aromas and body of Soave.”

In addition to Fattori, ten other Soave Consortium members were awarded various recognitions, indicat-ing the increasing respect for and interest in Soave on the international level, particularly in England and the United States.

“We’re getting great recognition in the American press and more American wine drinkers are discovering the versatility, value and great taste of our Soave wines,” says Soave Consortium President Arturo Stocchetti. “These numerous awards give us a great sense of satisfaction in the continual efforts of Soave producers and showcases the fruits of decisions implemented by the consortium in the quest for

quality.” <

ouR town >Fairwinds Broadway Across America Orlando presents WICKED

One of the reasons the Wicked musical has captivated audiences worldwide is that it is a Wizard of Oz prequel story, adapted and reinvented from Gregory Maguire’s novel about a green woman coming of age in Oz. But more than that, it’s a moving tale of two witches and a dazzling green-themed spectacle.

The official blurb in press releases states: “Winner of 26 major awards in-cluding the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with em-erald-green skin, is smart, fiery and mis-understood. The other is beautiful, am-bitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.”

Completely Satisfying - new musical in a long time‚ (USA Today). On Broadway and around the world, WICKED has worked its magic on critics and audi-ences alike. WICKED is Broadway’s biggest blockbuster‚ and the defining musical of the decade (The New York Times).

Runway To Hope Spring Fashion Event

The Runway To Hope Spring Fashion Event will be hosted by a national ce-lebrity (TBA) at The Mall at Millenia.

This Event is not only a fundraiser, but it also serves as a quality of life event for the children and families impacted by pediatric cancer. It allows them to participate in opportunities and events where cancer doesn’t take center stage, because the spotlight is on the children. In addition to the national celebrity host, dozens of local media and sports celebrities join and escort the beautiful children modeling on the runway.

“Femme Fatale” on March 15th. The new

album comes two years after the release of

her last, “Circus” and her grandiose world

tour. Exclusively available as a digital down-

load on the iTunes store, “Hold it Against

Me,” the album’s first single has charted the

highest number of radio plays in a single day,

reassuring doubters of the global superstar’s

comeback that she’s here to stay.

Spears herself described the new album as

“sexy, strong, dangerous, mysterious, cool

and confident” and she added “I’ve poured

my heart and soul into this album over the

last two years and put everything I have

into it.” Masterminds in the pop music in-

dustry, Dr. Luke and Max Martin, served as

the project’s executive producers. “Femme

Fatale” will be released by Jive Records and

envisioned an electronic and grimier sound

for the “Circus’s” follow-up.

A heavy social media campaign has created

a real frenzy among the pop star’s fans over

the release of the album’s cover and music

video debut shot by Jonas Åkerlund. The

video is “a sexy, edgy dance piece showing

Britney at peak form and ability” as stated

on a sales-solicitation sheet created by her

label.

Over the course of a 14-year striking solo

career she has experienced many highs and

lows, between professional achievements

and personal struggles. Including having five

No 1 debut albums and the unforgettable

scene of Spears shaving her own head, while

going in and out of rehab facilities. But she

seems to have put it all behind her, reached

stability and taking the driver seat of her

own life.

After riding a dangerous roller coaster

there and back, “Femme Fatale” is a fitting

name that translates into female empower-

ment, taking charge, confidence, and sex ap-

peal. She uses her fans as a main source of

inspiration “this album is for you, my fans,

who have always supported me and have

stuck by me every step of the way! I love

you all!” said Spears.

At 29 years old and mother of two little

boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with

29 top 40 hits on record, Spears won the

2008 Video of the Year VMA awards for

“Piece of Me,” marking the return to the

top of her game.

Since then fans have been able to enjoy

many other hits from their pop idol, in-

cluding “Womanizer,” “3,” and “If you Seek

Amy.” Her almost year long world tour

“Circus Starring Britney Spears” which she

embarked on in 2009 had a total gross of

$131.8 million. She performed across the

US, Australia, Canada and Europe.

Apart from entertaining, Britney’s business

side recently launched a new addition called

Radiance to her collection of fragrances

as well as a clothing line with Candie’s for

Kohl’s. With so many amazing happenings

in her career, it’s hard to predict what’s

next!<

> Astronomer Parke Kunkle of the Min-nesota Planetarium has been in a state of shock during the second week of January 2011, a recent newspaper report states. So have the many professional astrologers around the world. Kunkle upended what many who follow astrology knew about their birth signs when he announced to the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the stars are no longer aligned in the heavens as they were 5000 years ago. Major news net-works picked up on this along with every TV talk show and newscast in the country, and in most of the world has been abuzz. Astrologers have been perplexed, bemused and amused at the volume of response and many questions this has generated. Kunkle is glad to have people noticing the stars he says. The general consensus among astrol-ogers of course is that this is invalid and hardly a surprise.

Every so often there has been a similar news flash saying that astrology as we all practice it has changed. We can‘t be the signs we always thought we were anymore. The Sun Sign (familiar birth signs) has changed to

the one preceding it and/or the Zodiac has been invaded, perhaps by Cetus the Whale or Orphicus the Serpent Slayer.

Like the Wheel of the Year, the solstices and equinoxes in season shocking headlines create waves for a few days. Then suddenly, they fade, becoming yesterday‘s news for another decade or so.

Is there any real problem here? Well, not in this stargazer’s opinion. Consider this … the moment your life began, that place and time in the cosmos when you took your first breath, is when your horoscope is cal-culated. It hasn’t changed. Actually in the pattern of the seasons, the astrological cal-endar that oversees the flow of life, noth-ing has changed. We can however look at the sky picture from different perspectives, there are numerous zodiacs used to chart the heavenly wisdom, which have been de-veloped by different cultures around the world.

Has Your Sun Sign Really Become Differ-ent?

So! Has your Sun Sign at Birth Really Changed?

Sun Sign or popular astrology, like we use in the magazine columns uses the Tropical Zodiac, based on the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the midsummer and midwinter solstice points. Yes, the first degree of the sign Aries has gradually shifted backward a fraction each year against the starry back-drop of deep space and the constellations in the sky. This effect is called the preces-sion of the equinoxes. The length of time required for the Earth to swing its axis in a full circle backward through the zodiac is a period of about 26,000 years. So each of the world ages takes about 2000 years or a little more to move around the Ga-lactic Center of The Milky Way. This Great Age Circle is illustrated as we refer to the end of the Age of Pisces, which began, with the rise of Christianity. We are now begin-ning of the Age of Aquarius. Metaphysical and magical people will find this concept familiar.

Is this a source of concern about the va-lidity of astrology? Well, I wouldn’t think it is. Human nature (Yes, that‘s you!) is about

who you are and the external world doesn‘t change that essence of the essential self. There are diverse opinions about the zo-diac. Where do we draw and measure the signs/constellations? If, like most spiritual-ists, you are in tune with the summer and winter solstices as well as the spring and autumn equinoxes then you can breath a sigh of relief. The Zodiac cycle starts with the springtime and Aries. What you read in astrology columns and books will relate to you and your life and character.

In India there is a type of astrology called sidereal astrology, which does allow for the shifting vernal point in the Great Year. There is about a 23 to 24 degree differ-ence, with some controversy as to how this is calculated, from the familiar tropical zodiac. This is called the Vedic Zodiac. On some level both zodiacs will work, the life style and philosophy of the seeker can be a deciding factor. Try subtracting 24 degrees from each placement in your natal chart to see if the chart seems to have more clarity for you, then go from there.

Meanwhile there is no need to mess up the beautiful pieces of the cosmic pie by awk-wardly inserting an Orphicus, a (shudder) Serpent Slayer, into the line up, creating a division of 13. Who knows, it might even be unlucky! Auriga The Spider and Centus the Whale are other constellations hovering nearby. Perhaps they’ll get jealous and each wants a chunk of the celestial pie too. No, I feel comfortable with the classical twelve signs of the year. In harmony with the sea-sons of our lives, each watching over the yearly rising of buds and falling of leaves, imparting wisdom to guide humankind just as they have for the past five thousand years. <

March 21 - April 19

Mercury enters your birth sign on the 9th. Plans to travel will be finalized. Select a variety of mix and match separates for beachwear. You’ll want to change your look often. Bright rose is your love and luck color for early springtime. Sort through your maps and magazines. Plan to display a collec-tion of the most inter-esting ones in a vintage magazine rack or small book case in a corner of the family room. This will be an excellent conversa-tion piece as well as serv-ing as a source for ideas and inspiration about the heights you are about to achieve. Lucky days: 23

April 20 - May 20

Venus brightens your ca-reer sector most of the month. Accept invitations from co workers, new loyalties are strength-ened. Business and plea-sure combine with élan right now. Redecorate your home office, display trophies, certificates of achievement and framed thank you notes or cards of congratulation. This will encourage you to keep moving forward. A pale lime green straw hat is the perfect accessory for the beach, protecting you from the Sun as well as adding a note of mys-terious elegance. Add a pair of deeper green sun-glasses and head to your favorite ocean front party spot on the 17th. Lucky days: 10, 17, 27

May 21 - June 21

A strong Mars aspect at-tracts you to competitive situations. Decorate a patio or recreation area with sports memorabilia or adventure photos. Add some raffia straw mats in bright colors to create a casual mood. Humor is essential right now. Add whimsical bows or scarves in a variety of dots and stripes to your beach wardrobe. It’s a good idea to lighten up, perspective helps you to become less stressed and intense. Of-fer a few compliments, a kind word from you can open a door or remove a barrier. Lucky days: 1, 11,29

June 22 - July 22

Several planets move in and out of your 9th house this month. Your thoughts are faraway from the here and now. Traditional Ha-waiian prints would ap-peal to you in selecting beach fashions. Another choice would be a sleek black one piece suit sug-gesting a European look. You would enjoy art with a spiritual mood in your home library. Place a lucky tiki statue on a prominent shelf. Con-sider a framed photo of a medieval cathedral. Add a stained glass window during home renova-tions. Install it so that the bright colors of the rising or setting sun illuminate your surroundings. Lucky days: 3, 13, 21

July 23 - August 22

Neptune is completing an opposition to your birth sign. Others are elusive and mysterious, read be-tween the lines to discern where they are coming from. Be wary of advice if it clashes with your own sense of what’s best. Fol-low your personal sense of style, not the fashion pace set by friends. Mir-rors are the ideal new purchase for your home now. Use Feng Shui guide-lines to place them so that they reflect light into dark corners, especially in the northern portion of your home. Small twinkle lights draped on a plant or in an out of the way nook add dimension. Lucky days: 15, 24, 25

August 23 - Sept. 22

Early in the month sev-eral planets oppose you, including Mercury. As-sociates can be a bit un-cooperative. Negotiate with others and listen carefully. By the 10th dif-ferences are resolved. The Full Moon on the 19th is in your birth sign. You will be at the center atten-tion then and can make quite an impact on oth-ers. Swim wear in peri-winkle blue with silver beads would be perfect to take along on a Full Moon weekend cruise. Look in an out of the way gift shop for collectible antique masks to deco-rate your foyer. Looking for truth beneath surface appearances is a theme in your life now. Lucky days: 10, 19, 27

Sept. 23 - Oct. 23

Worries and pressures are lessening a bit, as se-rious and sober Saturn has turned retrograde in your birth sign. This offers some peace and respite from the responsibilities which have weighed heav-ily early in the year. You are thinking about time and how to manage it. In-vest in a novel clock, per-haps one with chimes or an interesting mechanism. Add a mini coconut palm tree in a brightly decorat-ed terra cotta container to your patio. Coconuts are sacred to Venus, your ruling planet and will bring you good fortune. Fragrances are powerful and healing now. Add an aroma therapy diffuser to your home or work place. Lucky days: 2, 20, 28

Oct. 24 - Nov. 21

Your creativity is at a peak, a stellium of plan-ets is gathering in your 5th house of hobbies and artistry. An avoca-tion can become a new career. Express yourself. How about grouping a display of antique musical instruments in your den? Water signs are involved, so you would also enjoy assembling an aquarium or adding a seascape to your home. Add a basket of shells and sea glass which you collected while vacationing in Martinique. Deep coral is an excel-lent color choice for new resort and beachwear. Lucky days: 6, 22, 31

Nov. 22 - Dec. 21

Drift and dream early in the month. Jot down ideas and impressions about the future. You might require extra sleep. Once spring begins on the 20th everything changes and your energy level will sky rocket. It will be easier to get projects underway. A faux animal print (what about zebra?) beach cover up would be a good choice. Add a khaki safari style hat with a band of matching fabric. A new exercise area for your pampered pets is a priority. You’ll want your furry or feathered friends to be safe, yet be able to enjoy some sun and fresh air as the last of the win-ter’s chill vanishes. Lucky days: 6, 15, 24

Dec. 22 - Jan 19

Uranus begins a long pas-sage through your sec-tor of home and family on the 11th. Anticipate a major change in your preferences and needs di-rectly related to living ar-rangements starting mid month. Explore the latest technologies and gadgets for the home. Look into the advantages of having a robot. A move to a lo-cation, which somehow offers greater freedom can be on the agenda. Brilliant, dazzling white is a color you’ll be mag-netically drawn to, both in home décor and in your selections for beach and resort wear. Lucky days: 8, 26, 27

Jan. 20 - Feb. 18

The money sector of your birth chart is highlighted. This can translate to an appreciation for collect-ible coins and tokens as a theme in home décor. How about a coffee table decorated with foreign or vintage coins? Or a shad-ow box of coins minted in the birth years of fam-ily members as wall art? This is a traditional good luck talisman as well as a conversation piece. Seek photos of pirate gold re-covered by treasure hunt-ers. Display these with different styles of the Jolly Roger or pirate flags. Carry out the theme by choosing beachwear with a pirate motif. Lucky days: 2, 21, 28

Feb. 19- March 20

The New Moon on the 4th is in your birth sign. This will usher in a genu-ine zest for life. It‘s time to celebrate your birth-day. The 5th - 18th is an excellent time to negoti-ate real estate deals or to go on a mission to acquire other desired items. Your vitality is high. Dance has a strong appeal. Dedicate an area of your home to a dance floor or a personal ballet studio. Invest in re-ally beautiful sandals, per-haps with jeweled accents or beads. Use the excep-tional shoes as the focus for the rest of your resort wear wardrobe choices. Complete the look with the perfect beach blanket. Peach and aqua are your colors this season. Double

> March marks the beginning of spring,

the season known for blooming flowers,

bright colors and perfect temperatures.

There is no better time of the year to spend

time outdoors with your dog. Though play-

ing fetch and taking walks are some spring

traditions you may enjoy with your furry

friend, how about springing into arts and

crafts with your pet?

Doggie finger painting is fun and easy. All

you will need is paint, a clean canvas and

a bowl. Make sure you purchase washable

finger paint, it will make cleanup easier. First,

pour paint into a bowl and slightly wet your

dog’s paws with it. Then, simply have your

dog walk freely across the canvas. If you

like, you can dip each paw with a different

color or use just one color. This is will cre-

ate a fun abstract piece of doggie art that

you and your family (especially children)

can enjoy making together.

Paw print molds are also great home deco-

rations. This project will take a little longer

and you will need more products. The sup-

plies you will need are: modeling clay, two

small pieces of cardboard, a cookie sheet,

and an oven. Once you have everything the

process is simple.

First, make a pancake shape ball of molding

clay with your hands, place it on a cardboard

sheet and place another sheet of cardboard

over it and press lightly. Remove the top

cardboard sheet and place your pet’s paw

over it, apply a firm yet comfortable pres-

sure to the entire paw and release. Then,

peel the clay off of the cardboard sheet and

place it on a cookie sheet. Set your oven

to 275 degrees and let the clay bake for 15

minutes. Remove it and allow it to cool.

As always, keep your pets safe & healthy.

Take special precautions and use pet

friendly products.

If you decide to partake in either one of

these activities with your pet, send us post

photos to [email protected].<

Even in complete and utter darkness, you can’t take your eyes off it.Night — it’s the great equalizer. One car blends into the next. Which is why when we de-

signed the new A8, we started with the very fi rst thing you see. Its LED headlights not

only demand your full attention, they are also the closest re-creation to daylight

of any car on the road.* Not to mention the most effi cient.† See how the rest of the A8

will demand your attention at audiusa.com/A8. The new Audi A8 is here.
