ORGAN/TISSUE FAILURE RESEARCH PROJECT
This unit project focuses on organ/tissue failure. Many people are affected by organ/tissue failure; you may even have some family members or friends that have experienced some form of organ/tissue failure. I suggest that you choose an illness that has affected someone you know, you have heard about in the news, or interests you because it is unusual. The goal is to research the illness and to orally/visually present information and recent research through a group 3-D book/informational video. Be creative, have fun, and use colorful artwork.

Cardiac Arrhythmias
An arrhythmia refers to any change from the normal sequence of electrical impulses, causing abnormal heart rhythms. This can cause the heart to pump less effectively.

Cirrhosis of the Liver
Cirrhosis is a condition that causes irreversible scarring of the liver. As scar tissue replaces normal tissue, blood flow through your liver is affected, making it increasingly difficult for your liver to carry out functions that are essential for life and health.

“ REQUEST” Directed Reading-Thinking ActivityOrgan/ Tissue Failure Article
Directions: 1. Silently read to the first stop.2. Think of a question for this section using one of the question
words (who, what, when, where, why, how).3. When everyone has finished reading, ask your questions this
way:
Rules for question time:
“I don’t know is not an acceptable answer. Each reader needs to think of a question and ask it of someone in the group. When answering questions, there is no looking back at the article (turn article over).
Carey Page 12 CP BIOa.One
person begins by calling upon a member of the group and then asking the question.
b. That person must answer the question as best as s/he can without looking back at the article.
c. The asker determines whether or not the answer is acceptable.
d. The person who answers gets to ask the next question. e. Continue until everyone has had a chance to ask/answer a
question for this section.4. Continue reading each section and stopping to ask questions as
described above.5. Choose a score keeper to record how many points people in your
group earned. The person with the most points in each group will earn extra points.
