10 years of expertiseAn important stakeholder in a unique region

When the Øresund Bridge opened in 2000, the

Øresund Region became a base for many new

ventures. Over the last 10 years, the thoughts that

started as an idealistic dream have become a real-

ity. Øresund University and Øresund Science Re-

gion, now joined under one brand, Øresund org,

have grown to become an important stakeholder

in the Øresund Region. With its unique strengths

that span from uniting two countries, world class

universities, a highly educated population, market-

leading technology, six science parks, 2000 com-

panies and some 12,000 researchers, the Øresund

Region hosts endless opportunities. In Øresund

org, we have made it our goal to be experts in these

opportunities, to spot future topics, and to pave

the way for innovation and knowledge-based eco-

nomic growth.

Building Europe’s best region for knowledge and innovation

WHATWE DO

At Øresund org, we bring eleven universities, hundreds of businesses and ma-

jor authorities together. Focusing on the Øresund Region, but with an interna-

tional outlook, we create cross-border networks and projects that will impact

our common future. We remove barriers to mobility and help create a dynamic

region for 165,000 university students. We continue to facilitate competitive

clusters within knowledge-intensive areas such as clean tech, food science, lo-

gistics, ICT and material science. Furthermore, we support entrepreneurship

and innovation to ensure that the Øresund Region will be an even better place

to live, work and be part of 10 years from now.

Each part of our organisation has developed a valuable expertise with a specific

focal point.

Food: Øresund Food is your knowledge and

innovation network within the food value-chain,

and has been evaluated as a top-performing clus-

ter organisation. We facilitate knowledge-based

economic growth in the region through collabora-

tion, and by initiating, coordinating and partici-

pating in multidisciplinary projects within Food

& Health, Production & Sustainability, and Gas-

tronomy & Sensation.

IT: Øresund IT provides and develops know-

ledge and contacts among ICT players in the Øre-

sund Region. In collaboration with well-estab-

lished companies and innovative start-ups, we

strengthen the ICT cluster in the region, making

Øresund IT the leading network organisation in

the field. We brand the region to attract more in-

vestments, research and talent.

Logistics: Øresund Logistics supports the lo-

gistics cluster by disseminating knowledge on ad-

vanced logistics and Supply Chain Management,

initiating and coordinating research, develop-

ment and innovation projects, as well as keeping

logistics on the agenda.

Environment: Øresund Environment pro-

vides a regional forum for networking and knowl-

edge exchange between businesses, universities

and local governments. We facilitate and promote

the development of new ideas and projects within

eco-mobility, clean tech, energy, green health-

care, and sustainable building processes.

Entrepreneurship: Øresund Entrepreneur-

ship provides the foundation for the collaborating

universities in the Region, through education, to

develop and make use of growth opportunities in

start-up companies and innovation in established

businesses. We increase the level of ambition and

focus on entrepreneurship education in coopera-

tion with all the relevant stakeholders and part-

ners in the Øresund Region.

Greenhouse: Øresund Greenhouse enables

ideas to grow. From early guidance in the process

of formulating exciting ideas, through to successful

implementation of various cross-border projects,

we facilitate project teams to focus on their indi-

vidual core competencies. Our overall aim is to

promote consistent development and growth of

unexplored areas in the Øresund Region.

Campus: At Øresund Campus, we initi-

ate, facilitate and administer unique cooperative

projects and networks between collaborating uni-

versities and university colleges in the Øresund

Region. Students, teachers, researchers, adminis-

trators, and anyone interested in university col-

laboration between Denmark and Sweden - Øre-

sund Campus is there for you.

Materials: New materials continue to change

our world – from cancer treatment to strong, low

weight fabrics and the harvesting of energy from

the sun. Centred on the Øresund Region and its

extraordinary research facilities and human re-

sources, Øresund Materials creates initiatives

that tie science and industry closer together.

From Øresund University to Øresund org

In 10 years, Øresund org has grown from being an idea gathering a handful

of people in a project, to a regional and international triple helix collaborator

providing a workplace for over 50 people. In 2009 alone, 17 knowledge, in-

novation and cooperation projects were generated, bringing over 30 million

Euros to the region.

1997: Danish and Swedish universities in the Øresund

Region establish a permanent forum for cross-border coop-

eration, creating a consortium called Øresund University.

2000: The Øresund Bridge opens, establishing a fixed

link between Copenhagen and Malmö, and the idea of a truly

integrated two-nation region becomes a reality.

2002: Øresund Science Region is launched by Øresund

University, the Capital Region of Denmark, Region Zealand,

Region Skåne, The Confederation of Danish Industry and

the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise to support industry

and increase integration and growth in the region through

cross-fertilisation of disciplines, countries and arenas. Øre-

sund Science Region has since evolved into a permanent

platform for universities, industry and authorities in triple

helix collaboration.

2006: OECD evaluates Øresund University and Øre-

sund Science Region under the programme “Supporting the

Contribution of Higher Education Institutions to Regional

Development”, and is impressed with the leadership shown.

2008: Øresund Science Region wins the prestigious EU

RegioStar Award. The European Commission chooses Øre-

sund Science Region as winner of the category “Supporting

Clusters and Business Networks”.

2010: As of March 2010, activities arising from the col-

laborations governed by Øresund University and Øresund

Science Region are promoted and carried out under a single

brand. Øresund org is not a new organisation – it is simply

our way of saying that everything we do is connected.

Stronger together

In the first 10 years, Øresund org has been characterised by a stepwise, dynamic,

bottom-up growth process. Building on these years of experience and accumulated

knowledge, the time has come to put the pieces together and create one outstanding

brand – one that is capable of encompassing the existing clusters and with a cross-

disciplinary approach, fill potential gaps between them.

Our shared values “Innovation, Professionalism, Clarity and Leadership” are corner-

stones of our organisation. At Øresund org, we dare to take leadership in the projects

that we are involved in. We continuously strive to become more innovative and profes-

sional in our goal of establishing world-wide partnerships with other knowledge regions.

The last decade has shown us that creating valuable synergies within the organisa-

tion and in our networks is something we do well. With our new brand identity, Øre-

sund org, and by launching a common visual appearance covering all of our activities,

we send a powerful signal to our various stakeholders – we firmly believe that we are

stronger together. It is our ambition that people will

recognise and relate to the Øresund brand and the

wide range of activities and networks that we work

with. The new brand brings us together, strength-

ens our identity and facilitates cross-disciplinary

processes between the individual areas - the voice

of Øresund org will now be heard in more contexts

than ever before.

Our new website is a single point of entry to Øre-

sund org and the different projects and activities

carried out within the organisation. The goals of

the individual projects are clearly described, mak-

ing it an important base for successful communi-

cation with our stakeholders, as well as providing

grounds for increased cooperation and governance.

Next 10 years

Øresund org has taken the lead as an expert in triple helix collaboration, a pursuit we will maintain

over the next 10 years. Strong and innovative partnerships will continue to be built and facilitated,

also in an international perspective.

In cooperation with regional and municipal institutions in the Øresund Region and the two nation

states, we will strive to make Øresund a world-leading science- and knowledge-based region. We

will actively engage ourselves on the national political scenes, and brand ourselves as an important

stakeholder in the Øresund Region. Øresund org will also collaborate with other European innova-

tion and knowledge regions in order to promote the Øresund Region in Europe.

In Øresund org, we have united our many different areas of expertise under one common brand.

Communicating our many facets with a single voice will enhance our legitimacy, allowing us to

practice governance and take the lead in regional development within the combined field of knowl-

edge, science and education. We believe the future holds a world of opportunities, and we welcome
