There’s no one truth, just varying context:
• Varied Sources (e.g. booking system vs. billing system, GAAP vs. non-GAAP)
• Varied Business Rules & Definitions (i.e. include this or exclude that…)
• Varied assumptions and adjustments
• Varied time of reporting (i.e. weekly vs. monthly)
• Varied accuracies (e.g. External Audited Reports vs. Management Reports, Rounding)

Problem Statement
Master Data & hierarchies are stored and managed in multiple systems and
spreadsheets. The change process are often manual. Discrepancies exists
across systems without clear understanding of business rationale.
Result of the Current State:
• Data Redundancy: Separate systems must collect, update and maintain their own version of key
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
• Data Redundancy: Separate systems must collect, update and maintain their own version of key
business hierarchies. Point solutions without a common data architecture.
• Data Quality: Hierarchy differences in reports led to confusion and misinterpretation of data.
• Business Inefficiency: Manual processes can be time-consuming and error-prone leading to re-
work and reconciliation efforts. Different numbers are reported (e.g. Gross Margin) which leads to time-
consuming reconciliation and compliance/control issues. Each redundant hierarchy requires resource
time for maintenance.
• Business Change: Current processes and systems will constrain ability to advance BI capability (e.g.
OBIEE).

Project Goals
DRM is one of the foundational tools needed for the company’s growing
Business Intelligence evolution.
DRM Establishes Master Data Definitions
• Common business rules and definition – how we can speak the same language (e.g. various definition of
revenue)
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
DRM Enables Hierarchy Management
• Drill down / slice and dice - How execs will drill down the information path)
DRM Helps with Implementing Standard Reporting
• How reports can tie to each other or how differences can be interpreted
DRM Helps with Instituting Best-In-Class Performance Management
• How people are measured and rewarded based on common definitions/rules
Key System Benefits of Oracle DRM
Reduce Time & Eliminate Errors
• Reduces time by eliminating the need for manual entry and validation of master data & hierarchies into
multiple downstream applications
Standardized and Consolidated
• Consolidation of de-centralized and alternative hierarchies from across multiple systems that will reduce
or remove differences and as a result eliminate report discrepancies.
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
or remove differences and as a result eliminate report discrepancies.
Automated Downstream Feeds
• Improve synchronization of master data & hierarchy changes to downstream applications
SOX Compliance
• All activities are logged for compliance reporting and process improvement analysis. There’s no need to
keep manual record of master data & hierarchy changes
Key User Benefits of Oracle DRM
Reporting
• Hard to reconcile between reports (Excel to Excel); Labor Intensive, High Cost and Error Prone Reporting
Complex Chart of Accounts Issues
• Special rules, number schemes, requirements; Difficulty in making updates and changes
Multiple ERP, GL or BI systems
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
Multiple ERP, GL or BI systems
• Adds, updates and deletes of accounts, entities and cost centers have to be manually replicated across
multiple systems
Rapid Change
• Mergers and acquisitions; System consolidation and alignment
DRM Architecture

What the Project Delivered
1. Manage reporting hierarchies in Oracle DRM tool
• DRM tool will source hierarchies directly to applications through automated interfaces
2. Governance model instituted for master data & hierarchy management
• Models include: Roles & Responsibilities for Administrators, Process Owners, Approvers, and System
Owners, Hierarchy creation rules, Hierarchy ownership and usage definition, Hierarchy standards and
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
Owners, Hierarchy creation rules, Hierarchy ownership and usage definition, Hierarchy standards and
conventions, Change Management Process, Approval Process by Hierarchy Type
3. Governance model deployed using workflow tool and DRM
• Utilize DRM to consolidate and store Master Data & Hierarchies. Allow different user groups to maintain
their hierarchies where appropriate. Publishes to downstream applications consistently.
4. Review and audit the change process
How Our Customer Benefited
Consolidates
• Allow all hierarchies, business definitions and business rules to be managed with a common UI.
Rationalizes
• Allow hierarchies to be cleansed, rationalized primary vs. alternatives, corporate standard vs. user owned, full pie
vs. slices.
Key Performance Ideas Confidential www.keyperformanceideas.com
Compare
• Allow hierarchies to be compared, reconcile difference easily.
Share
• Allow hierarchies to be shared across systems (i.e. Oracle GL, EDW, HFM, Essbase, Planning) and users.
Govern
• Allow governance and rules to be enforced. Establish trust rules via verifications and
validations to ensure data integrity.
