PROJECT BACKGROUND AND SCOPE
ROADWAY CHACTERISTICS
• The highway is
constrained by the river
and steep, unstable slopes
• Two 12-foot lanes with 6-
foot shoulders
• 2017 ADT: 2,500
• Percent trucks: 23.4%
PROJECT STAGING & MOBILTY IMPACTS
• Excavation and
retaining wall: Work is off
the shoulder
• Roadway realignment
and paving: Single lane
under flaggers. Width
varies, but all wide loads
can be accommodated
• Culvert replacement:
Three construction
stages
PROJECT STAGING & MOBILTY IMPACTS
• County Line Slide Culvert, Stages 1 and 3:
• 19’ of pavement with barrier on one side; at least 3
feet of shoulder will be clear outside of pavement
PROJECT STAGING & MOBILTY IMPACTS
• County Line Slide Culvert, Stage 2:
• 19’ of pavement between hard barrier on slight curve
• Contractor will have 14 consecutive days to complete
Stage 2 once in place
CRITICAL ROUTE PAIR – OR 38
• OR38: Hoagland Cr and Unnamed Cr Culverts -
Potential conflict.
• Replace two large culverts on OR 38. Part of the
OR38/US101 Culvert Pilot Project
• Both culverts require one stage of 19’ between hard
barrier. Contractor will have 14 consecutive days to
complete each Stage 2 once in place
• This may result in a paired route conflict of up to 14 days
for loads wider than 16 feet.
