Swift'sdriveforopticalexcellencestartedseveralyearsafteritsfoundingin1926byRobertW.Swift,Sr.,whenthefirstroofprismbinocularswel.eimportedfromGermany.Steadygrowthcontinueduntil1939,whentelescopes,specialtyoptics,fieldglasses,riflescopesandweatherinstrumentswerealsoaddedtotheimported line.

WhenWorldWarllbecameimminent,Swiftwasfar-sightedenoughtoacquireafactoryandcommencemanufacturingweatherinstruments,specialtymagnifiers,andpressuregauges.BecauseSwiftwasmanutac-turingproductsusedinthewareffort:inspectionglasses,pressuregaugesandhandsightinglevels,wewerepermittedtomanufacturesomeproductsfortheretailtrade.

InthefiftiesSwiftestablishedabranchofficeinSanJose,California,whichlateronbecameitsentirescientificinstrumentdivision,producingalineOfteaching,medical/veterinaryandindustrialmicroscopes.Beforelongthisdivisionestablishedaleadintheeducationalfield,notonlyintheUnitedStates,butgradually around the world.

in19S9theoriginalnameofSwift&Anderson,IncorporatedwaschangedtoSwiftlnstrumentslnc.,andtheSwifttrademarkwithitscrosshairswasressteredintheU.S.andforeignPatentOffices.AtthesametimeSwiftlnstrumentslnternational,SAwasincorporated,theTokyobranchwasopened,whereallpurchasingandinspectionwasaccomplished.ShortlythereafterAssaciatedManufacturers'AgencywasmadeSwift'sexclusiveexpoltagentforproductsshippedtocountriesotherthantheUnitedStates.ThisteamhashelpedSwiftreachitsgoalof"OFTICALEXCELLENCEANDENDURINGQUALITY".

Inour70thanniversaryyearweareaddinganewlineofeducationalmicroscopesaswellasexcitingnewmodelsformedicalandindustrialuse.Intheconsumerlineweareproudtointroducetwelvenewbinacu-larsandmonaculars,concentratingonthecompact,armoredandwaterproofvariety.WeareequallyproudtoshowourexcitingnewlineofeightNighthawkspottingscopesaswellasnewcompactopticsforthebirdingandsportingcommunity.Ourastronomicallineiscompletelynewandconsistingoftworeflectorsand five refractors, one of which is an all brass equatorial mount.
