ABOUT GREENFIELD, MA& SURROUNDING AREAS

Located at the intersection of Interstate 91 and the famous Mohawk Trail, Greenfield has all the

advantages of country life mixed with the energy and sophistication of a more urban area. It is the home of over 17,000 residents who reside between the Connecticut River and Berkshire foothills.

Greenfield is known for its picturesque and vibrant downtown. Visitors to its quintessential American Main Street can enjoy dining, shopping, entertainment, history, architecture and recreation by simply taking a stroll. Greenfield also has a rich arts and culture scene with a variety of venues for music and performance arts.

The rest of town is a mix of farms, modern industry and quiet residential neighborhoods. Educational institutions include innovative

public schools, distinguished private schools and Greenfield Community College.

Resting along the eastern bank of the Connecticut River just 43 miles south of Greenfield is the bustling

city of Springfield. With an estimated population of over 150,000 residents, it is the fourth-most populous city in the New England area.

Educated, progressive, safe and awash with parkland, Springfield is a city shooting up the lists of America's favorite places to live. Known as the "City of Firsts," Springfield serves as the region's economic hub and academic center. Prominent companies are headquartered in the metro area, including Fortune 500 financial services firm MassMutual. Meanwhile, higher education institutions like Springfield College and

Western New England University bring in college students who diversify the city's population.

Springfield is the entertainment and nightlife destination of Massachusetts's Pioneer Valley. The MassMutual Center hosts concerts, dance performances and conventions and is also home to the AHL Springfield Thunderbirds.

Those who go in search of outdoor activities often find themselves in Forest Park, home to many walking paths and sports fields, as well as a zoo, an ice rink and several golf courses. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is another popular attraction for residents and out-of-towners alike. Across the river in Agawam is Six Flags New England, a popular destination for family fun.

Perhaps the most iconic destination within day-trip distance of Greenfield is none other than Massachusett's

own capital, Boston. Sporting 48 square miles of urban sprawl, the city offers a wealth of opportunities for indoor and outdoor entertainment. Boston is home to some 680,000 individuals, making it the most populous city in all of New England. With its rich history, diverse neighborhoods and legacy of arts, culture and education, Boston has a little something for everyone.

Over 19 million domestic and 1.7 million overseas visitors come to the city annually, making it a leading tourist destination. Boston hosts many events each year, from the Boston Marathon to First Night First Day on New Year's Eve. Visitors and residents alike can experience its distinctively modern edge while riding pedal-powered swan

boats, catamaran and shopping artisanal markets or chic boutiques.

Boston is one of the most historic cities in the United States. Older than the United States itself by more than a century, Boston has been the site of some of the most significant events in U.S. history. From the charming cobblestones of Beacon Hill to the civic landmarks along Black Heritage Trail, Boston is a treasure trove of America.

There's nothing quite like Boston's sport culture. The city is never more alive than in October, when its greatest teams like the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots are all in full swing. Even loyalists to the opposition can still appreciate the aesthetics — a baseball pennant race in America's oldest ballpark, or a football dynasty playing on a brisk fall afternoon.
