It has been a fantastic year of hockey for GPS and the students should be very proud of their efforts in each and every game. They have represented themselves and their school with pride. We would like to say a very big thank you to Ollie Rinkin and Trevor Bolton for coaching the teams this year. They have volunteered their time to come in every Monday to train and encourage the students and we are very grateful for this. We would like to wish Westlawn Public School all the very best as they head into the semi- finals. Finally, we would like to say thank you to our wonderful hockey teams for putting in the effort each week to train and prepare for their games. Well done girls and boys! You are super stars and Hunter champions!! Mel Seale and Kim Macdonald - Hockey Coordinators

Message from Mrs Wakefield Gloucester Public School Uniform Policy Please ensure your child is wearing full school uniform each and every day. Thank you for your support. The wearing of school uniform is encouraged and recommended at all times. We feel our school uniform:

• defines an identity for the school and within the Gloucester community; • develops a sense of belonging and pride to our school and the Gloucester community; • provides an opportunity to build school spirit; and • promotes a sense of inclusiveness and enhances the health and safety of students when involved in school

activities.

In next week’s newsletter, the school uniform policy will be included. This policy was prepared in consultation with the school community over a length of time in 2017 and discussed at quite a few P&C meetings. One of our expectations is to: Wear full school uniform with pride. Our uniform is available from our uniform shop every Friday 8.30 – 10.00am and operated by volunteers from our P&C Association. Staying safe online What is an internet troll? An internet troll is a person who intentionally starts arguments or upsets others on purpose by posting comments designed to make people upset or angry. One in four students is bullied online – please help stop this by being vigilant. Here are four things you can do to stop online bullying. Online safety is important to us. Transition visit to Gloucester High School Getting prepared for high school has never been so much fun! Three students walked up to GHS on Friday with Mrs Allardice and Mrs Willis to learn more about the school. They have already had one visit, learning the layout of the school and visiting the agriculture farm. This visit was a cooking lesson with Mrs Cameron. The students had the opportunity to make a new friend with another student who will be at high school with them next year. I think the photos showed how successful our ‘muffin-making’ was! Regional Athletics Last Friday, 30th August, Lilli, Marley and Jacob went off to Regional athletics in Newcastle. Despite torrential rain, the carnival still went ahead and the students are to be recommended for persisting in such difficult conditions. Marley managed to book herself a ticket to the State carnival in the 200m race. Lilli and Jacob both performed well, only narrowly missing out on State selection as well.

Boys’ Soccer Team Congratulations to the boys’ soccer team who travelled to Wingham to participate in the Manning Zone Gala Day on Friday 23rd August. In our pool of 5 teams we came 3rd overall. All games were extremely close and the team improved throughout the day. A special thank you to all of our wonderful parents who transported and supported the team. GPS Squad Bradley Higgins, Benji Morgan, Sam Collie, Jacob Edwards, Xavier Soupidis, Justin Boorer, Albie Cameron, Andrew Fraser, Harvey Willis, Dylan Crossley, Hayden Dark, Nicholas Maggs, Thomas Maggs, Jonas De Angelis.

PSSA Basketball

The PSSA basketball team travelled to Maitland last Wednesday for rounds 3 and 4 of the PSSA basketball competition. A gala day had been organised at the Federation Centre which allowed each team to play 3 games on the day. The boys were impressed with the highly professional facility which housed 4 courts, viewing platforms and electronic scoreboards. Undaunted by their surroundings, our boys played their first game as a united and competitive team, winning convincingly and moving to the next round. The next game was tight, each team defensively strong with very few goals being scored. Gloucester was ahead for most of the game with a 1 point lead going in to the last 2 minutes of the game. Disappointingly for the boys, Tanilba Bay managed to score 2 points just before the buzzer, going through to the next official round. We then played a scrimmage game which saw Gloucester again victorious. The boys’ sportsmanship and behaviour was outstanding all day. I have seen an immense improvement over the last few months with this team’s dedication to training and each other. Boys you should be proud of yourselves! Team: Shannon Atkins, Brady Johnson, Riley Marsh, Jackson Moore, Sam Collie, Harvey Willis, Rhys Summerville, Jake Coombes. Felicity Willis and Emily Bosworth Basketball Co-ordinators
