Berufsbildungswerk Neckargemünd (BBW) near Heidelberg is a vocational training centre that focuses on off-the-job vocational training if conventional training is not possible. Our students are predominantly young people with special needs.

Today, the organization has around 700 employees and provi-des around 800 training spots in more than 40 state-certified vocational fields. We also offer virtual e-learning programmes for our students.Our vocational rehabilitation programme also includes a wide range of special medical, therapeutic, and nursing-care services.

Here at the BBW Neckargemünd, we focus on training programmes that not only address the special needs of our students but also the current demands of the job market.We also initiate first contacts with business and work together with highly respected companies and corporations.

Internships with companies are an integral part of our training programmes and a crucial first step into working life. We have special programmes with national and international corpora-tions that belong to a network of internships abroad we have established over time.

Finding the right vocation is often difficult for young people, since any decision sets them on a specific course for their future. We take an active role in this process by supporting and review-ing their choices with them and in the end, agree on a training programme that suits their needs (Integration Coaching).

We not only offer vocational and educational guidance and an adventure outdoor programme but also have an excellent team of physicians for medical care, social workers and psychologists who provide counselling for our students.

The world does not run on something, it relies on services – information and jobs in these indus-tries play a major role, be it in the field of business or administration. Here at the BBW we offer solid hands-on vocational training in modern facilities that are equipped with cutting-edge IT. This ideal combination of practical instruction and vocational schooling is the necessary framework for successfully finishing any job training.

Besides maintaining equipment and installing periphical de-vices, understanding the business of it is an important part of the job, too. Service and support are at the center of their daily work.

In-house vocational school

At our private state-certified vocational school, students can enjoy lessons in small groups with an emphasis on project work and hands-on tasks. This allows teachers to address the needs of every single student and give them their full attention.The curriculum focuses on the student and teaches not only the necessary theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills, thus promoting expertise in the field and at the same time me-thodological i.e. knowledge acquisition and applications tech-niques, and social skills.

E-learning – Virtual Vocational Training CentreBerufsbildungswerk offers young people with disabilities virtu-al vocational trainings that fit their individual physical and mental needs. Since 2000 we have been training students suc-cessfully with e-learning programmes at our “Virtual Vocatio-nal Training Centre” where they can earn a regular degree re-cognized by the Chamber of Commerce. This will empower them to lead an independent life in today’s society and busi-ness world.

LivingBerufsbildungswerk offers a variety of different residential op-tions and levels of assistance.

The students at our boarding school live in single or double rooms with modern furnishing, a shower and a bathroom.

Healthy dietA balanced diet is the cornerstone of good health and well-being. Our dining hall team offers several meals a day so that our students can stay focused on their training and relax on their lunch breaks.

Sport / LeisureStudents can choose from more than 20 different athletic activities offered at our sports grounds, gym, bowling alley, archery range and aquatic therapy pool. But there is more: we also has an extensive outdoor adventure programme that includes a rope course, free climbing, mountain biking, motocross racing and canoeing.

educare – The Youth-Welfare ProgrammeOur youth-welfare programme focuses on youth and young adults aged 15 and older who need educational assistance.Our students learn to manage their daily lives independently and take responsibility for their own future. Specialists from a variety of fields (including social work, physical therapy and medicine) support them in their personal development and social integration.

Occupational IntegrationSince 1998, our occupational integration has had great success in helping employable welfare recipients re-enter the job market.We work in close cooperation with agencies such as the Job Agency, state-operated Job Centres and the Agency for Social Services. Our Emphasis lies on assisting people whose personal situa-tions have created obstacles to their ability to return to work.

Private 2-year secondary vocational trade schoolThe private secondary vocational trade school is designed for students who have finished basic secondary school (Haupt-schule) and for students who dropped out of higher secondary schools after grade 9 (such as Gymnasien or Realschulen).It opens the door to skilled job trainings in the fields of metal and electrical engineering and into a world of numerous pro-fessional opportunities.

Career counselling

On the basis of a well-established test, we provide young peo-ple with the guidance they need to make the right career deci-sions after finishing school or university. If our students need or wish to change career plans, we will help them finding the right path.

We analyse their test results and give professional feedback and by so doing help them in identifying abilities, strengths and talents that can help forming their career planning.
