• SNF Days– Most plans limit to 100 per Benefit Period

• Lifetime Reserve Days– Pool of 60 days as supplement to inpatient Benefit Period

Benefit Period Definition

• A period of time that begins on admission to a hospital or skilled nursing facility and ends when the member has been out of the hospital or SNF for 60 consecutive days

• “Non-Covered Days” (non-skilled custodial care, provider liability late discharge, etc.) are not included in the benefit period date calculation

• There is a slight difference in the way that Inpatient and Skilled Nursing days are counted when the member has exhausted benefits
