Technical safety
The refrigerant circuit has been checked for leaks. This appliancecomplies with all current local and national safety requirements.
This appliance contains the coolant Isobutane (R600a), a naturalgas which is environmentally friendly. Although it is flammable, itdoes not damage the ozone layer and has a lower greenhouse effectthan some other refrigerants. The use of this coolant has, however, led to a slight increase in thenoise level of the appliance. In addition to the noise of thecompressor, you might be able to hear the coolant flowing aroundthe system. This is unavoidable and does not have any adverseeffect on the performance of the appliance.Care must be taken during the transportation and setting up of theappliance that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Leakingrefrigerant can damage the eyes.In the event of any damage:
– avoid any flames or anything which creates a spark,
– disconnect the appliance from the mains electricity supply,
– ventilate the room where the appliance is located for severalminutes, and
– call Miele.
The more coolant there is in a refrigeration appliance, the largerthe room should be in which it is installed. In the event of a leakage,if the appliance is in a small room, there is a danger of combustiblegases building up. For every 11 g of coolant at least 1 m3 of roomspace is required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is statedon a data plate inside the appliance.
To avoid the risk of damage to the appliance, make sure that theconnection data (fuse rating, frequency and voltage) on the dataplate corresponds to the household supply. Check that this is thecase before connecting the appliance. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.
Warning and Safety instructions
8
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteedwhen correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safetyrequirement is met. If in any doubt please have the electricalinstallation tested by a qualified electrician.
Reliable and safe operation of this appliance can only be assuredif it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.
If the connection cable is faulty, it must only be replaced by aMiele approved service technicianin order to avoid a hazard.
Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by amulti-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee therequired safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
If moisture gets into electrical components or into the mainsconnection cable, it could cause a short circuit. Therefore, do notoperate this refrigeration appliance in areas which are exposed tomoisture (e.g in a garage or laundry).
This appliance must not be installed and operated in mobileinstallations (e.g. on a ship).
Do not use a damaged appliance. It could be dangerous. Checkthe appliance for visible signs of damage.
The appliance must be disconnected from the power supplyduring installation, maintenance and repair work, and duringinstallation work on the mains water connection. It is only completelyisolated from the power supply when:
– the mains circuit breaker is switched off, or
– the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this isapplicable), or
– the mains cable has been unplugged. Pull on the plug and not thecable when disconnecting it from the power supply.
Warning and Safety instructions

Approximately 5 seconds after the lasttime a sensor has been touched, thedisplay automatically reverts to showingthe current temperature inside thePerfectFresh zone.
. . . in the freezer sectionTo freeze fresh food and to store frozenfood for a long time, a temperature of-18 °C is required. At this temperaturethe growth of micro-organisms isgenerally halted. As soon as thetemperature rises above -10 °C, themicro-organisms become active in thefood again so that it cannot be kept aslong. For this reason, partially defrostedor fully defrosted food must not berefrozen. Food may be refrozen once ithas been cooked, as the hightemperatures achieved when cookingdestroy most micro-organisms.

Storing food in the PerfectFresh zone
33
Danger of explosion!Do not store explosive materials inthe appliance or any productscontaining flammable propellants(e.g. spray cans).
If storing food which contains alot of fat or oil in the appliance or theappliance door, make sure that itdoes not come into contact withplastic components as this couldcause stress cracks or break theplastic.Make sure that no fat or oil leaksonto the plastic parts of theappliance.
To allow air to circulate efficiently, donot pack food too closely together inthe refrigerator.
Food must not touch the back of thePerfectFresh zone as it may freeze tothe back wall.
Food which is not suitable forstorage in the PerfectFreshzoneNot all food is suitable for refrigerationat temperatures below 5 °C because itis sensitive to cold. Depending on thetype of food, the appearance, consistency, flavour and/or vitamincontent may be altered if stored at toocold a temperature.
Foods which are sensitive to coldinclude:
– Pineapples, avocados, bananas, pomegranates, mangoes, melons, papayas, passionfruit, citrus fruitssuch as lemons, oranges, mandarines, grapefruits
– Fruit which is not yet ripe
– Eggplants, cucumbers, potatoes, capsicums, tomatoes, zucchini
– Hard cheeses, e.g. Parmesan,mountain cheese
What to be aware of whenshopping for foodThe freshness of food when first placedin the appliance is the most importantfactor in determining how long it staysfresh, and how long it can be kept in theappliance.Always observe the use-by date andthe recommended storage temperature.Time out of the refrigerator should bekept to a minimum, for example, whentransporting food in a hot car.
Useful tip: Take a cooler bag with youwhen shopping and on return placefood into the appliance immediately.
Storing food in the PerfectFresh zone
34
The PerfectFresh zone provides idealstorage conditions for fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and dairy products. Foodstays fresh considerably longer whileretaining both flavour and vitamins.
The temperature in the PerfectFreshzone is controlled automatically andmaintained at 0 to 3 °C. While lowerthan the temperature in a standardrefrigerator, this is the optimumtemperature range for storing fresh foodwhich is not sensitive to cold. Thedeterioration process is decelerated atthis temperature range so food can bestored without loss of freshness forconsiderably longer.
The humidity level in the PerfectFreshzone can also be regulated to suit thefood being stored. Food retains its ownmoisture if stored at a higher humidityand does not dry out as quickly. Thisallows it to stay crisp and fresh forlonger.
Remember that the freshness of thefood when first placed in theappliance is the most important factorin determining how long it will stayfresh.
Take food out of the PerfectFresh zoneapprox. 30 to 60 minutes before usingit. The aroma and taste do not fullydevelop until the food has reachedroom temperature.
The PerfectFresh zone is divided intotwo compartments:
– The upper dry compartment has atemperature of 0 °C to 3 °C and thehumidity is not increased.Use this compartment to store fish, meat, dairy products and all kinds offood, provided that it is wrapped.
– The lower humidity controlledcompartment has a temperature of0 °C to 3 °C, and the humidity level isincreased depending on the positionof the slide control: not increasedor increased. With increased humidity use thiscompartement to store fruit andvegetables.
Each type of food has its owncharacteristics and requires certainstorage conditions.
Storing food in the PerfectFresh zone
35
Dry compartmentThe dry compartment is suitable forstoring perishable foods such as:
– Fresh fish, shellfish and crustaceans
– Meat, poultry, sausages
– Deli salads
– Dairy products such as yoghurt, cheese, cream, quark etc.
– Any type of food can in fact be storedin this compartment, as long as it ispackaged.
The most important aspect of the drycompartment is its low temperature. The humidity level is similar to that in aconventional refrigerator.
Please note that foods rich in proteindeteriorate faster than others.Shellfish, for example, deterioratesfaster than fish, and fish deterioratesfaster than meat.
For hygiene reasons always keep thesefoods covered or wrapped.
Humidity controlledcompartment , The humidity controlled compartmenthas a slide control which is used toregulate the moisture in thiscompartment.
Slide the regulator to the or humidity setting.
Humidity level not increased
At the setting the humidity controlledcompartment becomes a drycompartment - the slide control opensthe vents in the compartment so thatmoisture can escape (see "Drycompartment").
Increased humidity
At the setting the humidity controlledcompartment is suitable for storing fruitand vegetables. The slide control closes the vents in thecompartment so that moisture cannotescape.
The humidity level in the humiditycontrolled compartment is determinedby the type and quantity of food when itis not packaged. If the quantity of food being stored inthis compartment is small, the humiditylevel may be too low.
Useful tip: If you are only storing asmall amount of food, wrap it in airtightpackaging.
High humidity in the humiditycontrolled compartment can causecondensate to build up on the floorof the compartment as well asbeneath the lid. This should be removed with a cloth.
Storing food in the PerfectFresh zone
36
Storage results for food storedin the PerfectFresh zone
Observe the following tips if you findthat food you have stored does notkeep well (e.g. food becomes limp orwilts after only being stored for ashort time):
– Only place fresh food in the applianceas the initial condition of the food iscrucial to maintaining freshness.
– Clean the PerfectFresh compartmentsbefore storing food in them.
– Dry the surface of very moist foodbefore placing it in the refrigerator.
– Do not store any food in thePerfectFresh zone which is sensitiveto cold (see "Food which is notsuitable for storage in thePerfectFresh zone").
– Select the correct PerfectFreshcompartment and the correct positionof the humidity controlledcompartment slide control (humiditynot increased or humidity increased).
– An increased humidity level in thehumidity controlled compartment isachieved by the moisture present inthe food being stored, i.e. the morefood stored in the compartment, thehigher the humidity. If too much moisture collects in thecompartment at the setting andthe food is affected, dry the floor andunderneath the lid with a cloth, andplace a rack or similar item in thecompartment so that excess moisturecan drip down.If the humidity level is too low despitethe setting, wrap the food inairtight packaging.
– If you think that the temperature inthe PerfectFresh zone is too high ortoo low, try regulating it slightly firstby selecting a different level. See"Adjusting the temperature in thePerfectFresh zone". If ice crystalsstart to form on the floor of thePerfectFresh compartments, increasethe temperature as otherwise the coldtemperature will damage the food.
Under certain circumstances, a settingfrom level to can causenegative temperatures to be reached.Food could freeze.
Adjusting the interior fittings
37
Moving the adjustable shelvesThe shelves can be adjusted accordingto the height of the food.
Raise the shelf and pull it forwardsslightly until the notch at the side is inline with the shelf support. It can thenbe raised or lowered to the requiredlevel.
The raised edge on the protective stripat the back must face upward toprevent food from touching the back ofthe appliance and freezing to it.
Stoppers prevent the shelves frombeing dislodged by mistake.
Moving split shelvesIn order to accommodate tall items inthe appliance such as bottles or largecontainers, one of the shelves isdivided. The front section can bepushed carefully under the rear section:
Push the rear half of the glass shelfslightly upwards.
With the rear half pushed up, lift thefront half of the glass shelf up slightlyat the front, then slide it carefullyunderneath the rear half.
To move the split shelf to anotherlevel take both sections out of theappliance.
Then place the two support rails onthe left and right support ribs at thedesired height and
slide the two glass plates in one afterthe other.
The section with the raised edge mustbe fitted at the back.
Removing the PerfectFreshzone drawersThe drawers in the PerfectFresh zone siton telescopic runners and can beremoved for loading, unloading orcleaning purposes:
Pull the drawers out as far as they willgo.
Holding the sides of the drawer at theback, lift it up and then pull itforwards and out.
Push the runners back in to avoidinjury or damage.
Adjusting the interior fittings
38
Carefully pull the lid between thedrawers slightly forwards, and take itdown and out.
Be careful not to wash out thespecial lubricant in the telescopicrunners during cleaning.Wipe the telescopic runners with adamp cloth to clean them.
To replace the lid, insert it frombeneath into the holders and push itback until it clicks into place.
Replacing the drawers
Push the runners back in completelyand then place the drawers on them.
Push the drawers back into theappliance until they click intoposition.
Moving the charcoal filters
When you are storing very strongsmelling food (e.g. very ripe cheese):
– Place the holder with the charcoalfilters on the shelf where this food iskept.
– Change the carbon filters sooner ifnecessary.
– Use more charcoal filters (withholders) in the appliance (see"Accessories - Optionalaccessories").
The holder for the charcoal filters sitson the protective strip at the back of theshelf.
Pull the charcoal filter holder upwardsto remove it from the protective strip.
Refit it on the protective strip of theshelf you wish to use it on.
Freezing and storing food
39
Freezing fresh foodFresh food should be frozen as quicklyas possible. This way the nutritionalvalue of the food, its vitamin content, appearance and taste are not impaired.
Food which takes a long time to freezewill lose more water from its cells, which then shrink. During the defrostingprocess, only some of this water isreabsorbed by the cells; the restcollects around the food.
If food is frozen quickly, the cells haveless time to lose moisture, so theyshrink less. As there is not so muchmoisture loss, it is easier for the food toreabsorb it during the defrostingprocess, and very little water collectsaround the defrosted food.
Storing frozen foodWhen buying frozen food to store inyour freezer section, check
– that the packaging is not damaged,
– the use-by date,
– the temperature at which the frozenfood is being stored in the shop. Thelength of time it can be kept isreduced if it has been stored at atemperature warmer than -18 °C.
Buy frozen food once you havefinished the rest of your shopping, and wrap it in newspaper or use acooler bag or cool box to transport it.
Store it in the freezer compartment assoon as possible.
Never refreeze partially or fullydefrosted food. Consume defrostedfood as soon as possible as it willspoil if left for too long. Defrostedfood may only be refrozen after it hasbeen cooked.
Freezing and storing food

Home freezing
Only freeze food which is fresh andin good condition.
Tips on home freezing
– The following types of food aresuitable for freezing:Fresh meat, poultry, game, fish, vegetables, herbs, fresh fruit, dairyproducts, pastry, leftovers, egg yolks, egg whites and a range of pre-cooked meals.
– The following types of food are notsuitable for freezing:Grapes, lettuce, radishes, sourcream, mayonnaise, eggs in theirshells, onions, whole raw apples andpears.
– To retain colour, taste and vitamin C,vegetables should be blanchedbefore freezing. To blanch, immersethe trimmed and washed vegetablesin boiling water for 2-3 minutes.Remove and plunge into ice-coldwater to cool quickly. Drain and packready for freezing.
– Lean meat freezes better than fattymeat and can be stored forconsiderably longer.
– Separate chops, steaks, cutlets, schnitzel or rolled meat with a sheetof plastic freezer film. This preventsthem from freezing together in ablock.
– Do not season fresh foods orblanched vegetables before freezing.Only season cooked food lightlybefore freezing. The taste or intensityof some spices alters when frozen.
– Allow hot foods and drinks to cooldown before placing them in thefreezer. Placing hot foods or drinks inthe freezer causes food that isalready frozen to partially thaw andincreases energy consumption.
Packaging food for freezing
Freeze food in portions.
Suitable packing material
– Plastic cling wrap
– Tubular polyethylene film
– Aluminum foil
– Freezer containers and bags
Unsuitable packing material
– Wrapping paper
– Grease-proof paper

Before placing food in the freezer
When freezing more than 2 kg offresh food, switch on the SuperFeezefunction for some time before placingfood in the freezer (see "UsingSuperFreeze"). This helps food whichis already stored in the freezer toremain frozen.
Placing food in the freezer
The following maximum loadingweights must not be exceeded: – Freezer drawer = 25 kg– Glass shelf = 35 kg
Unfrozen food should not touchfrozen food as this will cause frozenfood to begin to thaw.
Make sure that the packaging andcontainers are dry to prevent themsticking together when frozen.
- Freezing small items
Freeze small items in the upper freezerdrawers.
Place the food flat in the bottom ofthe freezer drawer so that it freezesthrough to the core as quickly aspossible.
- Freezing the maximum amount
Ensure ventilation slots at the backof the freezer section are always freefrom obstruction. If the ventilation slots are blocked thecooling performance will decreaseand energy consumption willincrease.Place food on the glass plate in sucha way that the ventilation slots arenot blocked.
Please note that when removing thedrawers, the lowest freezer drawermust always remain in the freezer.
Remove the upper freezer drawers.
Place the food flat on the upper glasscold plates so that it freezes throughto the core as quickly as possible.
After the initial freezing process:
Place the frozen food in the freezerdrawer and push it back in.
Freezing and storing food

Freezer calendar
The freezer calendar on the freezerdrawer shows the length of time inmonths which various foods can bestored for effectively when freshlyfrozen.
Where the storage time given on thepackaging differs, follow the advice onthe packaging.
Food Storagetime(months)
Cakes, ice cream,casseroles
2 to 3
Fish, mushrooms, bread 3 to 5
Pork, veal, poultry 6 to 8
Beef, fruit, vegetables 10 to 12
Defrosting
Frozen food can be defrosted indifferent ways:
– in a microwave oven,
– in an oven using the "Fan" or"Defrost" setting,
– at room temperature,
– in the refrigerator section (the coldgiven off by the frozen food helps tokeep the other food cold),
– in a steam oven.
Flat pieces of partially thawed meat orfish can be placed directly into a hotfrying pan.
Thicker pieces of meat and fish (e.g.minced beef, chicken, fish fillet) shouldnot come into contact with other foodwhen defrosting. Collect the defrostingliquid and then pour it away, makingsure you wash the container it was in,the sink and your hands.
Fruit should be defrosted at roomtemperature in its packaging, or in acovered bowl.
Most vegetables can be cooked whilestill frozen. Just put straight into boilingwater or hot fat. The cooking time isslightly less than that of freshvegetables due to changes in the cellstructure.
Never refreeze partially or fullydefrosted food. Consume defrostedfood as soon as possible as it willspoil if left for too long. Defrostedfood may only be refrozen after it hasbeen cooked.
Freezing and storing food
43
Cooling drinks quickly
When cooling drinks quickly in thefreezer, make sure bottles are not left infor more than one hour, otherwisethey could burst, causing injury anddamage.
Adjusting the interior fittings
Removing the drawers and glassplates from the freezer
The drawers can be removed for filling, emptying or cleaning purposes.
You can also expand the spaceavailable in the freezer section. If youwish to freeze large items such as aturkey or game, you can remove theglass plates between the freezerdrawers.
To do this, pull out the drawers as faras they will go, and then lift them upand out.
Lift the glass plate slightly, pull itforward and out.
Using accessories

The cool pack will be at its mosteffective after it has been in the freezerfor approx. 24 hours.
In the event of a power cut:
Place the frozen cool pack directly ontop of the frozen food in the front ofthe top drawer.
Useful tip: When placing fresh food inthe freezer, use the cool pack toseparate the fresh food from the foodwhich is already frozen so that thefrozen food does not begin to thaw.
Useful tip: The cool pack can also beused in a cool bag to keep food ordrinks cool for a short period of time.
Making ice cubes
44
For the automatic ice cube maker tooperate, it must be connected to amains water connection (see "Mainswater connection").
Danger to health! The first three batches of ice cubesmade after the ice cube maker isstarted up must not be consumed,as the water will have been used forthe initial rinsing of the water supplyline. This applies to the initialcommissioning as well as whenusing the appliance again after it hasbeen turned off for a long time.

Close the ice cube drawer.
Making a large quantity of icecubesThe amount of ice cubes which theappliance makes depends on thetemperature in the freezer section. Thelower the temperature, the more icecubes are produced within a certaintime frame. At a temperature of -18 °C,approx. 1 kg of ice cubes will beproduced within 24 hours.
Ice cube production stops automaticallywhen the ice cube drawer is full.
Useful tip: If you require a large amountof ice cubes, replace the full ice cubedrawer with the drawer beside it on theright.
The ice cube maker will begin toproduce ice cubes again as soon asthis new drawer has been placed inposition and closed properly.
Changing the size of the icecubesThe size of the ice cubes depends onthe quantity of water being taken in.You can set this quantity according toyour wishes. To make larger ice cubes, increase the amount of water beingtaken in by the ice cube maker. Thefactory default setting for the amount ofwater is medium (E 3).
Instructions for how to set the waterintake time of the ice cube maker canbe found in the section "Changing thesize of the ice cubes".
Defrosting
46
PerfectFresh zoneThe PerfectFresh Zone defrostsautomatically.
Condensate and frost can build up onthe back wall of the PerfectFresh zonewhile the compressor is running. You donot need to remove this, as it willdefrost and evaporate automaticallywith the warmth generated by theappliance.
The condensate is drained awaythrough a channel and drain hole, thenfed into an evaporation system at theback of the appliance.
Condensate must be able todrain away unhindered at all times.Keep the condensate channel anddrain hole clean to enable this.
Freezer sectionThe appliance is equipped with a"NoFrost" system. The freezer defrostsautomatically.
The moisture generated by defrostingcollects in the condenser and isautomatically dissipated by thecondenser from time to time.
This automatic defrosting systemenables the freezer to remainpermanently ice-free. Food stored in thefreezer will not defrost.
