Governor Newsom’s Order July 17, 2020

● Schools located in counties that are on the Monitoring List CANNOT physically open for in-person instruction until their county has come off the Monitoring List for 14 consecutive days.

● Los Angeles County is on this Monitoring List.● Schools in counties (32 current) that have not been on the

Monitoring List for the prior 14 days may begin in-person instruction, following public health guidelines.

Distance Learning Model

- Students will receive distance learning full-time through their assigned school- Students will not physically attend school but will participate in a

school-based distance learning program from home- Instructional delivery will include live, virtual instruction, interactive videos

and independent work. - The distance learning program will be taught by teachers assigned to the

home school and will be delivered through Seesaw, Google Classroom and Zoom

- Students will be expected to log in daily for attendance

Learning Loss

- Academic growth varies across the academic year and generally declines from the last day of school through the summer, with steeper declines in mathematics than in reading.

- Preliminary COVID data estimates students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 30% of learning loss in reading relative to a typical school year. However, in mathematics, students are likely to show a 50% loss of learning.

Steps to Address Learning Loss

- Utilize formative assessments to determine each student’s current instructional proficiency level

- Determine growth rates needed to catch up and set learning goals for the year that are ambitious but attainable

- Math subcommittees have created a plan that reviews essential standards that need to be reviewed from the previous year prior to moving into new content

- Provide targeted differentiated instruction or opportunities for individualized learning

Pupils with Unique Needs- Students with unique needs will receive targeted instruction based on

identified needs- Daily schedules include embedded support time for all students, especially for

special education and English learner students- Extended learning and office hours are available after school in order to

provide additional instructional support for students in a one on one or small group setting
