Learning Loss

- Academic growth varies across the academic year and generally declines from the last day of school through the summer, with steeper declines in mathematics than in reading.

- Preliminary COVID data estimates students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 30% of learning loss in reading relative to a typical school year. However, in mathematics, students are likely to show a 50% loss of learning.

Page 23: Opening School Fall 2020 Part I...K-8 Instructional Minutes (traditional setting) K-8 Instructional Minutes (SB 98) Kindergarten 246 1st-3rd 304 4th-8th 324 Kindergarten 180 1st-3rd

- Math subcommittees have created a plan that reviews essential standards that need to be reviewed from the previous year prior to moving into new content

- Provide targeted differentiated instruction or opportunities for individualized learning
