ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Humanities and Social Sciences Department at
VNIT plays a very active role in academics and
research. The Department offers various courses at
UG, PG, and PhD levels in English, Psychology,
Sociology and Economics. The courses focus on arts,
cognition, human values with professional ethics and
research skills. Department of H and SS offers
society oriented programs to create social
responsibility among the young generation students.
The main aim of the department is to inculcate
knowledge and skills pertinent to human relations
and sociolinguistics and teaching, keeping in mind
the development of the nation. The Humanities and
Social Sciences department promotes among
engineering and architecture and planning graduates
good communication and soft skills, etiquettes and
moral values to enable them to enter the world as
competent professionals.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology,
Nagpur is one among thirty one National Institutes of
Technology in the country. The Govt. of India
conferred on the Institute, the Deemed to be
University status (under University Grants
Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)) with effect from
26th June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. by
Act of Parliament (National Institutes of Technology
Act, 2007 (29 of 2007)) declared VNIT Nagpur as an
Institute of National Importance along with all other
NITs. The Act was brought into force from 15th
August 2007. Formerly, the Institute was known as
Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering
(VRCE). It was established in the year 1960 under the
scheme sponsored by Govt. of India and Govt. of
Maharashtra. The college was started in June 1960 by
amalgamating the State Govt. Engineering College
functioning at Nagpur since July 1956. In the meeting
held in October 1962, the Governing Board of the
College resolved to name it after the eminent
engineer, planner, and statesman of the country Sir
Shri. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. professionals.
This STTP aims to introduce the fundamentals of
SPSS and related features, in particular how to
code raw data of a new dataset, perform
quantitative analysis, interpret, and reporting the
results. The format of the STTP is instructor-led
with hands-on practice on a set of pre-prepared
exercises. This STTP also focuses on scientific
communication skills. Writing for publications,
constructing Abstract, graphical presentations
and interpretations of the data, Discussions and
presenting result section of research manuscript.
SPSS Statistics is considered as one of the most
widely used computer packages for statistical
analysis to organize, interpret, and present the
results. It is used by different disciplines in Social
sciences, Humanities, Education research, Data
mining, and others. SPSS comes with many
features and options mostly organized in pull-
down menus and graphical user interfaces. For
advance and complex calculations, SPSS provide
programming options through built-in syntax
editor.
