1. Email Notification of Online Essay Scoring (OES) Access A. You will receive an order confirmation email from Write Source Online notifying you of

entitlements to Online Essay Scoring (OES).

B. You can now use Online Essay Scoring after you set up the teachers and students in HRW,

the application that hosts OES.

2. Set Up Administration Accounts If no administration accounts are necessary, your teachers can set up accounts of their own by

following the steps beginning with Section 5 “Set Up Teacher Accounts (Self-Register)”. (pg 12)

o There does not *need* to be a District Administrator (DA) or School Administrator (SA) for

a district. The role is optional.

The benefit for the DA or SA role is that they are able to import students and

teachers.

If there is no DA or SA, then teachers register themselves and set up their own

students.

o The keycode to create a DA or SA account is unique to the district.

There can be only 1 DA per district

There can be multiple SAs per district, but only 1 SA per school.

A. Existing Users (Administrators) a. Sign in at http://my.hrw.com using the user name and password that you previously

registered on Holt McDougal Online.

b. Enter the OES ISBN to register each new product.

B. New Users (Administrators) a. To obtain the keycode required to set up a DA or SA account, contact your Sales

Rep. Once you have the keycode, proceed to the next step.

b. Go to http://register.hrw.com/hrw/userreg/userreg.jsp.

c. Click District or School Administrator, and then click Register.

d. Click Choose your User Type and select your desired role.

e. Click and select your State, District and School to find your organization.

f. Click Continue Registration.

g. Enter the required information including your administration registration code.

h. Read the Terms of Use and click I agree.

3. Import Teachers (District and School Administrators Only) A. Log into HRW as an Administrator.

a. Go to: http://my.hrw.com B. Select Import Teacher Accounts link located underneath teachers. The Import Teacher

page is displayed.

C. Select the File Format link to view how to format the import teacher file. D. The following values must be entered into the import file respectively: E. This table identifies the name of each column and explains the data that needs to be

will generate if left blank. It cannot be changed for the new account once it is

left blank. It cannot be changed for the new account once it is created.

5. Set Up Teacher Accounts (Self-Register) A. Go to: http://register.hrw.com/hrw/userreg/userreg.jsp. B. Select “Teacher in a U.S. School” and then select Register.

C. Enter the required information. D. Read the Terms of Use and select “I Agree”.

E. Select your school from the dropdown the list. Enter the Online Essay Scoring ISBN your

school is entitled to, and select Next.

F. Enter “hrw” in the secure word field, then select “Next”

G. Click the log in link on the Registration Confirmation screen to begin using Online Essay

Online on Holt McDougal Online. You should also receive an email from Holt McDougal Online that contains your username, password, and a log in link.

6. Set Up Online Essay Scoring (OES) in Holt McDougal Online A. Go to: http://my.hrw.com/

B. Enter the username and password you created during registration, then select “Log In”.

C. Select “Add a Class” link on the menu on the right side of the screen. Select the “How to

Use” link for detailed help on creating classes and students. NOTE: Your classes in Write

Source Online will *NOT* appear in Holt McDougal Online.

D. Enter your class details; select the check box for the Online Essay Scoring product you

wish to assign to the class. Then select Add.

E. Enter new students by filling out student information at the bottom of the Add Students screen. Click the One Log In/Password button to add any existing students that belong to your school, and are registered for another Holt McDougal Online Program, to the class. These students will have the same user name and password for all Holt McDougal Online programs associated to the class. Click Add once you have finished adding students to the class. Note: Students must be created in both Write Source and Holt McDougal Online to appear

in both platforms.

F. Once you have finished adding students, you will be taken to the View a Class Roster

screen. You can print student log in details and distribute to students offline. You may also

select the “View a Class Roster” link in the menu to the right.

G. Select Home to return to the My Subscriptions screen.

H. Select the Holt Online Essay Scoring link to review prompts and submit writing samples.

Select the Teacher Support link for help. Select the View Student Essays link to view

students’ essay scores.

7. Teacher Allocation of Online Essay Scoring (OES) to a class in Write

Source Online (WRS) A. Log in to Write Source Online using your Write Source username and password:

B. If you do not see the Online Essay Scoring icon on your dashboard, click the Manage

Class button at the top of the teacher dashboard.

C. Select the Products tab.

D. Scroll through the products list or filter by product type to find Online Essay Scoring.

E. Select the checkboxes in the Teacher and Student columns to allocate OES to your class.

Click Save and Close to save any changes.

Source Online (WRS)

A. Log in to Write Source Online using your Write Source username and password:

McDougal Online login screen.

C. Enter your Holt McDougal Online username and password. Then select the Log In button.

D. You should see Online Essay Scoring listed as a product on the My Subscriptions page

and can begin using Online Essay Scoring.

9. Student Access to Online Essay Scoring (OES) from within Write

Source Online (WRS)

A. Log in to Write Source Online using your Write Source username and password:

B. Select the Online Essay Scoring icon on your dashboard. This will launch the Holt

McDougal Online login screen.
