THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Registration Form

Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, an ISO 9001:2000 certified institution, affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, is one among the several educational and philanthropic institutions founded by Late. Shri. Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, established in 1957. This Govt. aided institution was granted autonomy in 1987 and is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The college offers seven undergraduate programmes, fourteen postgraduate programmes and doctoral programmes in Engineering and Sciences and Architecture. 87 Recognized Research Supervisors are guiding around 350 research scholars for Ph.D degree under Anna University and other Universities.

OBJECTIVE OF WORKSHOP

The main objective of this workshop is to provide

hands-on in various Free/Open Source Software tools

like Python for research in computer science available

as free software. The sheer number of softwares

available makes it difficult to choose a place to start.

Most of the tools available need a very steep learning

curve. In this workshop, we take a look at the most

commonly used research tools available which not

only provides answers to research problems, but also

help to learn more about a research topic. This

workshop is organized over one week with the help of

ample hands-on exercises; you will get introduced to

the different types of variables in python, the

peculiarities of python and good programming habits.

This workshop will provide you an ideal stepping stone

for further developing programming skills in Python

The FIST Supported Computer Science and

Engineering Department has Knowledge

Engineering as its theme area. The Department has

laboratories supported by Microsoft, Intel, TCS and

HP. The Department has the privilege of having

completed many R&D projects from RCI, AICTE,

UGC, DIT and DST. The Department was a

consortium partner of CDBR-Smart and Secure

Environment project sponsored by NTRO, New

Delhi. The Department has an active collaboration

with EMC Data Storage Systems, VMware, Yahoo

India, Adobe and CTS. As a Prometric Center, six

international certification programs are offered. The

department is responsible for design and

development of College Management Information

System which has received many national level

recognitions. The department has got experienced

faculty members with PhD’s and publications in

national and international journals.
