The 21st Century Technology, Research and Scholarship ActFlorida Technology Research and Scholarship BoardWorld Class Scholars Program*State University Research and Economic Development Investment Program -?

(Jeff Lyash)Foundation started looking for tool for benchmarking against competitor states, regions and global marketsNot an encyclopedia, but a tool for intervention, advocacy and policy reform. Platform for identifying lagging areas and opportunities for leaps, as well as tool for tracking incremental improvements and accountabilityAfter a review of 25 years of Cornerstone research, an analysis of the states various visioning reports- including Enterprise Floridas Roadmap to Floridas Future, and a review of the numerous reports measuring global competitiveness, we developed model with:

Vision for Florida Prosperity for Florida's families and businessesLivable, sustainable and vibrant communitiesGlobal market leadership in current & emerging industries and clusters

6 PillarsTraditional elements- Infrastructure and Business ClimateElements with increasing importance to future competitiveness- Talent and InnovationCore to sustaining standards of living- Quality of Life and Governance

What drives economic growth or collapse, year-to-year and over the long term? What will we need to be a global leader in 2030?What can give us competitive advantages in 2030?What are our baselines for competition in 2030?What are the elements of positive business climate in 2030?What are the drivers and inhibitors of global innovation economy? How will we generate value/wealth in 2030?How ensure prosperous families in 2030?What are essential elements of quality of life? What is the difference between a great and awful place to live/work/play?What system element must be aligned to assure great place to live/work/play?

*Measuring Floridas Performance Floridas economy is in transition and we have entered that part of the maturation process where no one metric is sufficient to explain what is going on in this state. The breadth of our markets and our opportunities simply defy being captured in one number. Some industries and regions will grow at about the national pace, while others - particularly those focused on innovation and the global marketplace - are on fire.

The Florida Chamber Foundation has just developed a Dashboard to measure these six pillars on a regular basis. Were looking forward to rolling out this online tool for real-time measures of Floridas economy, we also anticipate being able to produce regional dashboards in the near future.

Most of you are probably familiar with the advocacy and political side of the Florida Chamber, the part fighting for economic development and a robust business environment at the Capitol each year.

Many are not aware of the Florida Chamber Foundation who dedicates itself to scanning the horizon and developing research and recommendations for the long term viability of the Florida business community.

Over the last two decades, the Foundation, through the support of businesses and foundations across the state, has invested more than $5 million dollars in research and programs.

We are committed to metrics and transparency to ensure the 2030 vision for Florida becomes reality.
