    One Day Trailer Analysis

The titling reveals the time period of the film and

suggests that the entire film is set in this period. Thedate and setting is the first title placed on screen and

alludes to the significance of dates which is an

important theme in the film as the narrative focuses on

the same date every year of the two protagonist's lives. The introduction of a calendar- like format

raises the question whether the relationship will span the width of time presented and poses the time

and setting of the characters meeting places as significant.

The second use of titling in the film trailer

exposes the film premise as based on an

international bestseller and so those that are fans

of books adapted into films may be attracted to

the film widening the target audience. However,

a niche audience such as the readers of the book

may be attracted to the film because since reading the book they may have highly anticipated the

    release of the film.

The first shot shown in the film trailer is an

establishing shot of a skyline. This is later

revealed to be Scotland establishing the city

setting of the film. Setting tends to play a role

in setting the genre of the film and a fast paced

The use of the Medium Close up introduces both characters showing the two characters as they areseated next to each other without getting uncomfortably close to them. This mimics the characters

reactions towards each other as it is evident that this is the first time they consider each other

romantically , as the female protagonist revealsduring a cathartic moment that When we were in

university, I had a crush on you. The romantic drama genre is introduced through the romantic

implication that stems from this early stage within the narrative.

The typical American male voiceover is utilised in the One Day trailer and is an archetype of the

clichd romantic genre. The stereotypical voiceover relays the information that their relationship will

span over 20 years as it is revealed On the day they met, Dexter and Emma never imagined how

their lives would intersect over the next 20 years. The voiceover sets the basic foundation of the

narrative and the audience are now aware of the time limit of the romance.

The turning point of the trailer is demarcated by the segue into another soundtrack; at which point

the conflict in the two protagonists relationship is shown. The female protagonists diegetic

exclamation I love you Dexter, I just dont like you anymore marks the dramatic shift in music as

the non-diegetic sound changes to contemporary guitar music. Previous to this shift in the narrative,

the non-diegetic music was classical opera music that is symbolic of the British upper class society

that they are both members of.
