The city of Slidell is in Saint Tammany Parish. It is 28 miles northeast of New Orleans, Louisiana and is considered to be a part of the New Orleans metro area. Slidell was founded in 1882 after the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad arrived in the area. Slidell was formally incorporated as a city in 1888. It was named after John Slidell, an American politician. Business in the city began to develop in the early twentieth century. Tourists can visit the Fort Pike State Historic Site, which has a fort, a museum and a picnic area. The structure was built between 1819 and 1826. The Fontainebleau Site Park is another tourist attraction where one can enjoy swimming, camping and wind surfing.

Perseus hosts a ball January 24th and a thirteen-float parade, with nine double-decker floats. Each float rider constructs his or her own costume. The Krewe is made up of 170 members whose throws include: their famous hand-decorated plastic crabs, crab beads, slap bracelets, and cups.
