Here at Best Practice we are pleased to present Nautilus Rigging (UK) Ltd with our highly regarded Commitment to Excellence profile. The internationally renowned, award-winning manufacturer of self-locking general lifting hooks – dubbed the ‘Nautilus Hooks’ range – represents a significant step change in safety for general lifting hook users. Ever since 2009, Nautilus Rigging has been maintaining efficiency and maximising operator protection with its revolutionary patented safety hooks. The original product is specially fitted with various safety-enhancing features designed to eliminate the risk of potentially serious pinch and trap hand injuries that commonly occur with the utilisation of traditional ‘latch lock’ hooks. Its uniquely integrated safety handle ensures secure control whilst simultaneously ensuring that the user’s hands and fingers aren’t in contact with the hazardous hook/sling interface area, and the dual-sided sliding lock mechanism provides a simple one handed operation for either right or left handed individuals. Other key benefits include an unobstructed internal load bearing profile for a swift load or discharge and an outward opening locking arm which prevents the snagging of slings behind the latch during discharge whilst stopping any unintentional ‘snap on’ to umbilical cables or equipment protrusions. “Nautilus Hooks were specifically designed to improve personal safety levels for all lifting operations,” commented Nautilus Rigging UK’s Managing Director and Designer, Mr Bill Toon. “Their unique safety features provide a positive technological advancement for lifting hooks. Leading organisations have adopted Nautilus Hooks as the next generation of lifting hooks because the proven safety advantages gained by using our hooks align closely with the stated objectives of corporate safety policies which all aim to reduce injuries and improve workplace safety.” The robust hooks, which are manufactured to European standard BS/EN 1677-1.2008, are constructed from high- grade carbon alloy steel with an embedded corrosion- resistant marine grade stainless steel lock spring. They all cohere to the DNV type approval under regulation 2.22 for lifting appliances and are individually proof-tested to 2.5 times their working load limit as part of the company’s stringent QA production control plans. The company has recently launched NautilusROV Hooks, a ‘positive locking’ design focused on safe, secure, subsea lifting. The product is an industry first as it uses specialist technology to provide a Subsea/ROV hook with a ‘positive locking function.’ This subsequently means the load will remain secure until released by the ROV, providing a reliable and competitively priced resolution for secure subsea lifting. The cost-effective hoisting solution has proven popular in various industrial applications. The Nautilus Hooks Multi Leg Chain Assemblies are widely used in construction and mining (and areas operating mobile/tower cranes) whilst the Nautilus Hooks Wire Rope Pennants are particularly appreciated by organisations working on offshore platforms, mobile drilling rigs and within the shipping and port services. The company is in the process of strengthening its status as an industry leader ever further with the expansion of its international network, having recently advanced its network of authorised distributors with the significant appointment of many official outlets in Japan and Brazil. 11th successive year of double-digit growth for Pooling Partners in the UK2015 marked the eleventh successive year of double-digit growth for IPP Logipal UK & Ireland, part of Pooling Partners, Europe’s #1 integrated full-service pooler and producer of pallets and boxes, and the UK & Ireland’s second largest pallet pooler.

Carl McInerney, Country Director, IPP Logipal UK & Ireland, part of Pooling Partners, commented, “Pooling Partners in the UK and Ireland saw strong growth in 2015 through winning numerous new customers and extending services to existing customers. More and more businesses are appreciating the quality of our product, the excellence of our service delivery, the expertise of our people and the value for money we deliver.

“The excellent year of double-digit growth we enjoyed is not only a reflection of the rising demand for smart pallet solutions – pallet trips being an excellent economic barometer – but also our continued focus on exceeding our customers’ service expectations.

“The year saw high customer satisfaction

with the level of service provided by the team, which set development benchmarks. It was particularly satisfying that the team reached and surpassed those goals.

“In the UK, Pooling Partners is growing and retaining the right skills and experience to maintain its momentum and continually improve customer satisfaction. Our grass-roots approach to employee recruitment, induction and training is also proving effective. More than half of our personnel stay with us longer than six years.

“Innovation is also very much to the fore.

The company was the first in Europe last year to introduce a receptacle that complies with the latest requirements for transporting waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

“And Pooling Partners continues to invest in its pooling network. Having a dense network for collection and supply of pallets reduces transport miles: a common target shared with our customers.

“Early indications are that 2016 promises to be another excellent year of growth.”

Tuffscreen protects Argos Investment in Mobile Delivery DevicesTuffscreen’s innovative purpose-designed screen protectors – developed to prevent business losses inflicted by screen damage – have recently been employed by Argos in a bid to modernise their internal delivery processes.

Retail giant Argos have implemented the use of these rugged screen protectors on their new mobile delivery devices to optimise the workflow of their delivery setups – from distribution centres to store and onwards to their customers – replacing their existing mobiles with electronic proof of delivery (ePoD) devices and satellite navigation (sat-nav) devices.

Understanding the importance of keeping the screens safe from damage, Sharon Cartwright, Project Manager at Argos, chose to invest in Tuffscreen’s protectors, “I was very impressed with Tuffscreen’s screen protectors form the outset,” she said. “Their rugged look and feel does not inhibit the screen operation in any way, either visually or in terms of touch response for data input, whether this is via finger or stylus. Tuffscreen were able to be very flexible and responsive to our demands, delivering in multiple batches to assist with our device rollout, and they’ve represented an excellent investment as we’ve

not seen a single device with a damaged screen!”

The robust protectors are made using a unique Gelcore multi-layer technology; an impact-absorbing gel layer chemically bonded to a hard-coated anti-glare scratch-resistant film to eliminate damaging abrasions to the screen. The industrial strength solution is custom-cut for each device to enable an effective and seamless application, enhancing operations whilst eradicating expensive repair costs.

Tuffscreen has helped hundreds of organisations to maximise operations with their revolutionary screen protectors that have proven to reduce device downtime expense whilst prolonging device life. If you want to maintain competitiveness in an ever-evolving marketplace whilst guaranteeing customer service standards are met and deliveries completed efficiently, then get in touch with Tuffscreen today – you won’t regret it.

SoVibrant project wins at regional BCO awardsSoVibrant project ‘The Bonding Warehouse’, has won at the British Council for Offices (BCO) Regional Awards with the refurbishment and extension of this iconic Grade II listed building in York.

One of the UK’s leading independent strategic creative consultancies, SoVibrant was lead designer for Grantside’s ‘The Bonding Warehouse’. The company is delighted that the project has been announced as the winner of the ‘Refurbished/Recycled Workplace’ category at the BCOs North of England, North Wales and NI Regional Awards ceremony, held at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester on 22 April 2015.

The project involved the refurbishment and extension of a flood-damaged, Grade II listed building on the banks of the River Ouse in York, within the Central Historic Core Conservation Area. Previously used as a nightclub

and bar, the building had been unoccupied for approximately 10 years and was showing severe signs of disrepair.

Now housing high quality office space, which has attracted fresh business to the city centre, The Bonding Warehouse boasts four penthouse apartments, including York’s first £1m luxury penthouse. A core extension has been sympathetically added too, featuring a bridge link constructed from first floor level to allow access to and exit from the building in times of flood.

Students benefit from laundryThe Florida State University, based in Tallahassee, has a London Study Centre where selected students get the opportunity to spend part of their course in order to broaden their experience and enjoy all the attractions that London has to offer. Among the communal facilities provided for the students is a laundry, equipped by Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems. The use of the laundry is free to the students who use it for their clothing and personal items – the bedding and towels go out to a laundry service.

The laundry consists of five Huebsch LWZ washer extractors and six Amazon stacking dryers. The Huebsch washers have an extra large 92 litre drum, are economical on energy and water and are renowned for their reliability. The Amazon dryers stack two high, making maximum use of available space and each dryer has an 8kg (201 litre) capacity. Janice Moody from the facilities office at the London campus told us that the laundry is an essential element in the facilities offered to the students,

and that they are very happy with both the quality of the equipment and the service offered by Armstrong.

Local, National and International ExcellencyBest Practice is incredibly pleased to present the Nationwide Hygiene Group with its well-deserved Commitment to Excellence profile.

It was back in 1986 when Nationwide was first established in Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The business, which specialises in the supply of premium quality cleaning, hygiene, safety and catering products, is widely appreciated by some of the most esteemed organisations in Britain (namely large facilities management companies, educational establishments and healthcare organisations).

Nationwide’s expansive product portfolio comprises components ordered into the following segments: hand washing & skin care, paper, housekeeping, laundry, floor care, safety signs, first aid, kitchen hygiene, personal protection, uniform, healthcare & infection control and waste management.

Customers can also make the most of Nationwide’s expert support services, which will enable businesses to acquire new insights and receive all of the necessary advice they may require. They will be introduced to new approaches that will optimise their operations; employing

strategies to allow greater spend control, increased efficiencies and supply chain transparency which will in turn make the overall day-to-day running of the company much more productive and efficient.

“We can be considered your main point of contact for all of your janitorial product enquiries,” commented Nationwide’s Marketing Manager, Sarah Morrell. “We can provide a complete solution, in the form of a one-stop-shop, which includes the designation of an individual account manager who will manage your requirements, alongside our dedicated customer services team in Chesterfield, who will help you with any queries.

“We provide a rounded service, working closely

with you to assist in any way we can. Our web-ordering systems can be budget controlled and will help you to rationalise your range, creating a more streamlined purchasing model for your business. We have also recently introduced a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health accredited, online training programme which is available to all our customers, giving them a comprehensive, onsite training option for managers and their staff.”

Serving clients at international, national, regional

and local levels is possible courtesy of Nationwide’s well established network of shareholder companies operating throughout the UK and Ireland (along with its European and US partners, INPACS and Network). One of its strengths is the brand’s capability to deliver its reputable services to clients of all sizes, from small local companies to large distinguished multi-nationals.

“Last March, we attended our first ever exhibition, the FM Show 2015,” Sarah said when asked about the company’s recent movements and future plans. “Although it was a new venture for us, it was well worth our time as it went really well. Our attendance at the show enabled us to profile our business more effectively and engage with many great contacts. We received such a good response that we have already booked a place at next year’s show!

“Going forwards our aims include developing our established business supplies division and new service offerings in other key sectors (particularly the catering industry). We intend to continue adding new resources, which will enable us to provide our customers with whatever it is they need.”

Best Practice is extremely proud to feature National Flexible and commend its team for achieving its prestigious Product Innovation Award 2016.

The UK's largest distributor of polypropylene, laminates and special films is based in Bradford, where it operates on a flexible basis from its modernised purpose-built factory. Complying with all of the latest BRC and ISO standards for food-grade packaging films, the National Flexible group’s core responsibility is to devise the strongest packaging solutions for the applications presented to them, keeping costs competitive, shelf-life lengthy and running speed efficient.

The industry specialist has been selected as a standout innovator for various reasons. Its renowned status for holding the most expansive independent BOPP film conversion facility in the country is testament to its penchant for growth and flexibility, whilst its range of services remains appreciated by a multitude of customers.

Nationwide Flexible strives to fulfil the packaging requirements of clientele in various sectors. Serving those in the food, confectionery, bakery, snack, contract packing and pharmaceutical verticals, its widespread customer base consists of many big name brands and manufacturers, such as Tesco, Ginsters, Sainsbury’s, Aunt Bessie’s, Premier Foods, Burtons Biscuits, Finsbury Foods, Greggs, Morrisons, ASDA, Marks & Spencer, Holland & Barrett and Hallmark.

The distribution company supplies products in reel format for usage on all types of automated packaging machinery including flow-wrap, VFFS, tray-sealing, thermoform, box wrap and sachet applications, as well as supplying in emerging markets such as pre made pouches. Its key activities revolve around the supply of plain films (polypropylene, laminates, environmental films and special films) and printed films (print & capacity, flexographic print, gravure print and digital print) as well as the associated packaging services (technical support, quality control and design development proficiencies).

“Our main role as a company is distributor and stockist of bespoke flexible packaging, namely OPP, Special Films and Laminates (both plain and printed),” detailed George Slack, Managing Director at National Flexible. “The service we supply is J.I.T. stockholding in an industry where lead times are generally long, and we can proactively manage the customers’ stocks to allow them to have low inventories and better cash flow for less ‘hassle’ than dealing with our competition.”

The business’s commitment to enhancing the packaging industry with heavy investments

in new equipment is tangible, particularly with the recent

addition of its Block bottom-gable top pack. The highly

efficient finger chain infeed conveyor for usage in

multiple applications features an adjustable film forming box, long dwell end seal,

gusseting device & adjustable pack clamps, servo

driven film feed with autosplice and a film pre-creasing system

enabling the smooth application of tactile printed film and paper/film laminate. This machine provides a fully automated alternative to the more costly and labour intensive methods involved with packaging products such as premium sandwiches whilst lending a really nice artisan feel to the branding.

Upon discussing the company’s recent accomplishments, George said, “We have been steadily growing for the last 5 years so most of the changes have been good quality recruitment to give us the resources to service our customers correctly. This has allowed us to develop our customer service role to one of ‘Customer Champions’ to give much more proactive and close sustaining support to our major clients. In the future we will continue to do what we do whilst developing our people

so they can drive the business forward.”

Marketing Manager James Walker was keen to mention Nationwide Flexible’s recent rebranding and the reasoning behind it, “I would like to take the time to explain the origin of our new strap line ‘an easier way’,” he commented. “The flexible packaging supply chain is one that is well documented for extended lead times, contentious technical specifications and unsatisfactory response times. Feedback from our customers and prospects suggest that they require a more ‘hassle

free’ and transparent, caring approach which overcomes these unwanted obstacles. In our annual customer survey 99% of our customers stated they would recommend National Flexible as a flexible packaging supplier, because dealing with us is just ‘easier’ in every way.”

TECHMODERN® PRESSES FOR TOMORROW’S WORLDTechModern® Presses provide Stamping; Hydroforming; Deep Drawing and the operations that metal forming presses will need to do in todays and in Tomorrow’s World.

TRS Engineering Services Ltd in the West Midlands of England have designed and developed just such presses which incorporate proven technology and methodology with innovation to satisfy the future needs and adaptability.

The bespoke presses are of a modular design, comprising a flat pack framework which can be readily transported to their destinations on low loader trailers and assembled on site. They are floor mounted without the need of pit foundations and can be assembled, together with their computer control systems, commissioned and maintained at floor level.

The computer controlling systems are programmed on board and can, in addition to the operating command sequencing, include the component design and it’s forming simulation. For product support it can be equipped with condition monitoring – worldwide.

A speciality of these presses is their Hydroforming capability to utilise fluid pressure in place of a punch to form sheet metal or tubular blanks into complex shapes. This enables the manufacture of components with improved properties and lower costs compared with conventional manufacturing techniques.

The hydroforming technique allows for the production of components that would otherwise be made from multiple stampings joined together, and, presents a range of both structural and economic benefits.

For the tube hydroforming process, the tube is loaded into hydroforming dies and the press closes on the dies. The tube is filled with liquid and internal pressure is increased and the tube takes the shape of the dies. The press is opened and the part is removed.

For the panel hydroforming process the sheet is placed above the die, the press closes securing the sheet in the die and fluid under pressure fills the chamber. The pressure is increased and the sheet takes the form of the die. The press is opened and the formed panel is removed. Press frame

15 Years of Excellence

Your UK Packaging PartnersHere at Best Practice, we are delighted to feature Kite Packaging and acknowledge the team behind the brand for its 15 Years of Excellence in serving various industries with its efficient packaging distribution services.

The private limited company holds the prestigious status as the UK’s foremost supplier of packaging materials, supplying clients across the country with its individually customised corrugated packaging, plastics, printed products and machinery solutions.

With operations running in Rotherham, Coventry, Harlow, Swindon, Portsmouth and Kent, Kite Packaging can effectively facilitate the requirements of its ever-expanding customer base, which includes organisations working within the automotive, aerospace, electronics, healthcare, retail, internet and food industries.

When discussing the reasons behind Kite Packaging’s tremendous success, Gavin Ashe, Managing Partner at Kite Packaging, explained, “The core of our business concerns looking after people. With us, it isn’t just about the products – it’s about providing guidance, the necessary research & development and on-time delivery. We go by the motto: ‘Customer satisfaction matters so much more when you own the business.’

“With a couple of thousand standard product lines alone, we run the biggest web-based operation of our kind. We look at automation and environmental waste legislation as well as running a compliance scheme – all of these elements are exclusive to our company.

Every branch of ours employs at least one trained packaging technologist, because we want to guarantee that we can provide the expected specialist advice.

“Our unique selling point is that we can go that one step further for our customers; undergoing product design, development and testing if required. To exemplify: we have developed boxes for value added products, completing commissions for incredibly varied briefs. We have made specific packaging suitable for a five-bird roast product, which needed to be sturdy enough to protect the meat during both its transportation and display.”

Kite Packaging is renowned for its staggeringly impressive all-encompassing online portfolio. Its comprehensive inventory of products can be split into the following categories: boxes, pallets, wrapping, film, bags, envelopes, sealing, taping, pouches and postal tubes, incorporating various packaging materials (from corrugated cardboard boxes and packing tape to large rolls of bubble wrap and hand pallet wrap).

Because of its penchant for advancement and innovation, Kite Packaging is constantly looking for ways to adapt in what can irrefutably be deemed a highly competitive market. This can be exemplified with its recent addition – the Air Shock range – which acts as an effective alternative to bubble, foam and dividers. This particular line has already proved to be an immense

success (especially with big hamper providers) due to its convenient multi-purpose pack size offering and easy inflation (activated on demand using compressed air). Supplied with or without an outer cardboard box, the Air Shock products feature air cushioned protective packs for electronics, ceramics and ornaments as well as specialist pouches for wine and champagne bottles.

Paper Jet, the fastest known paper cushion system on the market (producing 285-200 paper pads per minute), will soon be introduced to the blossoming product portfolio. These dependable first rate pads are suitable for packing, securing and protecting items in transit, and the paper is also available to suit roll or fan fold applications. This is set to make a significant impact – as its shelf-ready packaging alternatives already are – products that can be delivered and then presented in the exact same form, as opposed to being transported in the cheapest brown boxes available and then opened onsite. This movement, which is inspired heavily by Lidl and Aldi’s philosophy, means that the resources can be used across all processes (from transit to the point of sale), saving the customer both money and time.

Gavin concluded, “We are very pleased to have been recognised with this feature and we feel it is a great compliment to the team and a testament to our hard work and dedication. 2015 in particular has been an extremely successful year for the company – our sales have fared very well against

forecast and we have been involved in some interesting projects.

“We are constantly undergoing change and evolution. Because of our continual growth, we aim to bring something new to market every 18 months. As an employee owned business we constantly strive to look after our customers and do exactly what is required of us. Our plan for the future is to continue to grow organically, increasing our staff and introducing new and exciting products.”

LISTA is a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative, efficient, modular storage and workspace systems and used by over 100,000 satisfied customers world-wide across a wide range of industry sectors including automotive, healthcare, aerospace and rail.

With the UK rail sector currently experiencing an unprecedented period of rapid growth and acceleration it is of no surprise that this is a key market for LISTA. With its storage and workspace systems proving to be highly effective solutions in other sectors (such as automotive and aerospace), it was a natural progression for LISTA to raise

its profile in the UK rail market and replicate its success in Europe and indeed worldwide.

To give LISTA even greater exposure to the UK rail market, Chris Hargreaves-Heap, General Manager at LISTA (UK) Ltd, took the decision to exhibit at Railtex held earlier this year at the NEC. Showcasing a wide range of cabinets and storage solutions over the three day duration of the show, Chris said, “Railtex was a fantastic show for us this year. We attracted a lot of serious interest in our products and the most important factor for us was that so many of the people who came to visit us on the stand were end-users of the products and could understand the real value and benefit of having LISTA products in their workshops. As a result, we’ve now secured several new customers in the UK rail sector – including train manufacturer, Bombardier!”

Explaining why LISTA products are a natural solution for lean operating principles, Chris continued, “If we look specifically at railway depots, for example, there is a growing trend in transforming their workspace into lean and efficient environments. We work in partnership with these organisations who value and recognise our expertise in this area and the success we have in delivering best practice.”

Health, Safety & Workwear News

Tooling Services News

True Foot Safety means Comfort, Ergonomics & OrthoticsOne of the most pervasive but overlooked ailments are ‘sore feet’ brought about by being ‘on your feet all day.’ As trivial this may sound, they could be early-stage symptoms of something far more serious.

Feet are actually amazingly engineered constructions. They support your weight, provide stability, balance, and shock absorbency – and have this job all your life. For the foot to work properly, numerous bones, tendons and ligaments have to interact, and the 90,000 sweat glands on each foot also help regulate body temperature and purge waste products. It’s no surprise that so many things can go wrong.

RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) is the foremost work environment problem in the western world. More than half of all occupational injuries are directly related to injuries to hands and feet, including musculoskeletal

disorders of the feet, such as plantar fasciitis, fallen arches or flat feet. Such conditions are virtually an epidemic, without even considering the vast estimated number of undiagnosed and unreported cases. Over time, these issues also have a knock-on effect upon the knees, hips, spine and even the neck, which are rarely traced back to the original foot misalignments.

Unsupportive footwear are a major contributing factor to Plantar Fasciitis, as they cause over-pronation of the foot, whereby the arches collapse and the feet ‘roll over’ and elongate. This unnatural elongation puts excess strain on the ligaments, muscles and nerves in the foot. Eventually, the bones in the feet unlock, causing the foot to roll inward. This worsens with every footstep, further stretching the plantar fascia and causing inflammation and pain near the heel bone.

Prevention is better than cure. The importance of selecting the most suitable footwear is greater than ever. However, several factors prevent this.

Firstly, the overwhelming choice available

these days, it can quickly become so time-consuming that a fully informed choice is all but impossible.

Secondly, there are many misconceptions or out-dated ways of thinking, such as the myth is that the heaviest and sturdiest boots are the safest. However, this could not be further from the truth. Such boots are rarely comfortable, do not flex naturally with the feet and can cause stresses and strains.

The problem is further compounded by the fact that decision makers are seldom among those who actually wear the products that they purchase, and

conversely those who wear the products rarely have the power to influence the footwear that they wear each day. Therefore in reality, it’s all too easy for decisions to be based on such issues as convenience, habit,

or the advice of biased salesmen, rather than on well informed analysis based on up-to-the minute science.

Some organisations have tried to avoid these difficulties by providing a budget to each staff that can then choose whichever footwear they choose – the rationale being that they are best placed to assess the most suitable items. However, staff is unlikely to be adequately qualified or informed for such technical decisions. Instead, aesthetic or fashion-related considerations can come into play, and should any subsequent injury occur that results in legal action, the Courts are likely to take a dim view of such informal PPE self-regulation.

Orthotic Insoles – The hidden heroYou can buy the best work boot in the world, but it still cannot account for the variations in the foot shape and arch size among users. Expensive custom orthotic insoles that are individually measured for each wearer were the only solution.

Orthotics are corrective foot devices. They are not the same as soft, spongy, rubber footbeds, gel heel cups etc that may cushion the heels of feet, but which do not provide any biomechanical correction. In fact, gel can do the opposite and make an incorrect walking pattern even more unstable!

Orthotic insoles work by supporting the arches while re-aligning the ankles and lower legs and support the arches, which reduces the tension and overwork of the plantar fascia, allowing the inflamed tissue to heal.

Hidden away out of sight, such

corrective orthotic insoles can offer substantial, lasting relief to heel pain symptoms. Most people feel a noticeable improvement immediately, but feel it more at the end of the day, when they note that their feet do not hurt the same way as they used to each evening. Sometimes, the difference can be far more dramatic, and has even been known to drastically reduce symptoms of chronic back pain.

The difficulty is that, in practice, everyone has a different arch size, so there is no one-size-fits-all cure, and therefore each person’s feet would have to be individually measured. This has always meant that such solutions were never realistic unless the level of suffering had reached the critical stage for medical intervention.

Introducing the JALAS® Neutraliser Orthotic Arch-Supporting Insoles & the JALAS® FootStop ServiceThis state of the art mobile computerised foot-scanning service enables the rapid and convenient scanning of the feet of every individual in a workforce at their own premises, and furnish them with the most technically advanced corrective orthotic insoles instantly, and at the fraction of the price.

The JALAS® Neutralizer insoles are available in a variety of sizes and arch heights. The computer scan decides on the most appropriate sizing, and the insole can be supplied and worn there and then. The insoles can be worn with any item of footwear, for an instantaneous improvement in foot comfort and support. However, JALAS safety boots are specifically designed to be worn with this insole, therefore for best results, they are recommended. In tests, user commonly report unprecedented levels of comfort, complete freedom from foot pain, and even a disappearance of chronic back pain.

It is difficult to overstate the importance of this product. It was a finalist in the BSiF Product Innovation Awards 2015, and has been called a game changer by some in the British medical industry. Everyone

can benefit from JALAS® Neutralizer insoles and they are also surprisingly affordable – a fraction of the price of regular medical orthotics, which do not even offer the other advanced features, and the price even includes the time to visit your premises to scan the feet of your workforce.

There is nothing else that comes close to making such a difference to the foot health of your staff. Please contact CKL Workwear Distribution for further information or to discuss a trial.

Health & Safety NewsSend for help Group’s Subsidiaries achieve NSI Gold standardSend for Help Group – Europe’s largest lone worker protection provider has been awarded NSI’s prestigious Guarding Gold standard for its subsidiary brands, Skyguard and Guardian24.

Following a rigorous audit, the award certifies that both companies are working to the very highest standards of both product and service provision.

The National Security inspectorate (NSI) is the recognised leading certification body for the UK’s Security, Fire and Facilities Management industries, offering a multi-tier approval scheme.

Previously, both Skyguard and Guardian24 had held the Guarding Silver award which audits against lone worker sector standards, such as BS 8484:2011. However, Guarding Gold was achieved after the company’s Quality Management

System surpassed BS EN ISO 9001 requirements in addition to the ‘Silver’ standards already met.

NSI Gold is widely recognised as the highest level of certification across the security industry as well as the Police, Fire and Rescue services.

Skyguard’s own purpose-built, UK based 24 hour operated Incident Management Centre had already achieved the top level ‘Gold’ award for Alarm Receiving Centres back in 2009, as it was the first in the UK to be audited to BS 8484.

The NSI Gold accreditation has been awarded to both subsidiary companies.

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment SchemeIn 1997, a group of health and safety and procurement professionals from across Great Britain worked with the Association of London Government (ALG) to develop The Contractors Health & Safety Scheme (CHAS). In 2001, CHAS became a web-based system.

In 2013, CHAS became a limited company and is a wholly owned by the London Borough of Merton, has now become the largest and fastest growing Health & Safety Assessment Scheme in the UK and its aims are to improve health and safety standards and to reduce the burden of duplicated safety applications for both suppliers and buyers.

With a web-based user friendly database of over 66,000 suppliers, CHAS accreditation avoids repeated safety pre-qualification applications, saving time and money. CHAS currently has a team of over 120 accredited assessors who are all NEBOSH qualified, practising health and safety professionals who attend CHAS specific training on a regular basis. CHAS assessments cover a wide range of sectors including non-construction, construction and care service providers. To reinforce

this, we will be exhibiting at several events throughout the UK this year; across several different sectors, Ecobuild, Toolfair, LGA Conference, Homes 2016 to name a few. If you want to know more about the events we will be attending please check the home page of our website.

There are currently over 800 buyers who have access to the database across both the Public and Private sectors. These include Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Main Contractors, the Education and the NHS sector, amongst others.

Industry first Wirelesshart™ Burst Detection SystemElfab Limited, global manufacturer of pressure relief systems, has recently launched its first wireless burst detection system. Elfab’s non-invasive, reusable, ATEX-approved burst detector; Flo-TelTM; has been offering customers across the globe, a fail safe way of notifying a disc has burst in safety critical conditions for over a decade.

Flo-Tel offers a range of benefits over traditional membrane style burst detectors as it is not subject to spurious alarms. Unlike most burst detectors, which are activated by the flow created after the bursting disc has operated, Elfab’s Flo-Tel actuator is installed on the vent side

of the disc and is activated by the operation of the disc itself.

Emerson Process Management recognise the benefits and advantages of Flo-Tel and are working closely with Elfab, helping to bring to the market the first WirelessHART rupture disc burst detector.

Wireless technology offers a cost-effective solution when monitoring rupture discs and explosion vents and can easily be implemented on both new and existing sites. Customers can expect to eliminate the costs and complexity of additional wiring by saving an

estimated 50% of the cost and 90% of the time required to install a conventional wired system.

Both new and existing customers can benefit from upgrading to this technology by obtaining immediate process alerts from an intelligent, real-time process monitoring equipment. Elfab’s wireless burst detection is a cost-effective alternative to wiring.

Drive Parts Direct: Transmission parts direct to your doorA completely new name made a dynamic entrance to the Power Transmission market last year – Drive Parts Direct. The ‘brainchild’ of Nigel Rose, a well-known figure in the PT business, it has had a remarkably successful first year, during which it became clear they needed to increase storage space to enable them to hold even more stock of Steigentech belt and flooring products.

“I am delighted that in a sometimes uncertain trading climate, the demand for our products and services has been strong in our first year, and I realised early on that to provide the stocks and give the service our customers demand I needed more space” said Nigel. “We have positioned our product ranges as a serious quality and value for money proposition, my main partners Steigentech, for whom we are the agent for UK and Ireland, are like minded and forward thinking and like me determined to offer a different way of doing business but one that also to retain our traditional values.”

Although Steigentech is a new brand in Europe, for Transmission Belts and

Matting, their main factory is the largest rubber belt production unit, under one roof, in the world, and uses the very latest machinery and technology – the entire product is produced to exacting standards. The range comprises Classical and Wedge belts, in both Envelope and REC form, along with Multi-Rib Belts, Timing Belts, PU belts, and Turf Drive garden machinery belts.

The SurCapt™ Microbial Surface Detection Kit is an all-inclusive, ready-to-use kit which simplifies and quickens the process of environmental surface testing for biological contamination. The kit uses GreenLight® Technology for the rapid detection of microbial activity on cleanroom surfaces and the design reduces the likelihood of sample cross-contamination and mishandling of samples by the operator.

The SurCapt Kit is intended to be used with the GreenLight automated reader. The reader’s internal LED sends light to the polymer sensor located in the kit vial and the optical system detects the decay of the fluorescence signal emission referring to the oxygen depletion over time due to the microorganism’s respiration. The system is flexible and allows either enumeration produced from an internal calibration, or a pass/fail test based on presence/absence of oxygen depletion over time. The reader software allows continuous measurements of oxygen depletion within the reader or endpoint measurements from externally incubated samples.

BOC attends the Lab Innovations Exhibition for the second timeOn the 4th and 5th of November last year BOC attended the Lab Innovations Exhibition, for the second year running and once again we had a brilliant show. We took a long a great team with us with a wealth of knowledge, ranging from experts within the technical field, product management and sales and marketing. For the first time, we also brought along our equipment manager with us, who brings with him over 30 years of experience, which proved to be a hit with visitors as equipment seemed to be a topic of interest over the two days.

Other than equipment another thing that we were showcasing was our Genie cylinder, which has added benefits such as portability and digital display. It was great showing it off to customers and speaking to them about how they could use it in their industry. We took away with us a lot of customer feedback sheets with some really useful information.

The show had a range of interesting people to talk with including the visitors and other exhibitors and it was a great opportunity for our sales and marketing teams especially, to speak with existing and potential customers. We were also able to take the time to go around and visit other stands, talking to companies about what they do and how we could work together. It really is a great opportunity to build relationships with other experts in the field.

As part of the ALS Group of laboratories the Environmental business provides 4 of the 350 laboratories across the globe on 5 Continents.

ALS Environmental were the first UK laboratory to accredit the MALDI-ToF Conformation technique, which provides instant and informative confirmation data for Microbiology clients. They have developed one of the most extensive MALDI-ToF libraries in the world, with a market leading 56 species of Legionella, as well a broad portfolio of other water borne pathogens.

The ground breaking identification offered by the MALDI-ToF technology, allows the company to remove the need for presumptive data for Legionella and all other bacteriological analysis, with all data reported as Colony Forming Units. The instrument is currently able to detect over 10,000 different bacteria and fungi

species from a range of genus. In addition, the technology allows ALS to continually expand its own databases by purchasing reference cultures, adding to the instrument library; if the protein structure is unique then they are able to analyse for this at a species level.

“We are able to respond in a timely and efficient manner to your analytical and sampling requirements, via our network of laboratories and service centres across the UK and Ireland. This network also means we are able to provide customers with additional capacity and the reassurance of back-up laboratory systems.” commented Sales and Marketing Manager, Nick Barsby. “By working with our customers for over twenty years, we have been able develop a range of analytical services that meet your specific needs, including standard industry, regulatory and bespoke analytical suites,”

ALS Environmental can help organisations working in the water treatment sector that have a host of environmental and public health requirements that they are obliged to maintain to ensure a safe working environment. The risk of contaminated water in nosocomial situations is of added importance due to the

high number of immuno-compromised patients that rely on water from these facilities. There has been a high focus on the risks associated with Legionella, such as Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 or HSG220 for use in Care Homes, but Legionella is not the only health risk potentially living in your water supply.

The ESKAPE pathogens are all of greater concern due to their antibiotic resistant nature and due to the high risk of infection from contaminated water. To help manage the risk of these bacteria ALS Environmental utilise the MALDI-ToF approach to provide instant confirmed counts of these bacteria with a full speciation if required.

The ALS Environmental Centre of Excellence for Drinking Water, based in Wakefield, helps monitor the drinking water for over 5 million UK homes across the British Isles. The laboratory is home to a team of over 100 scientists who provide DWTS accredited data to support various Utility companies across the UK.

To further support your environmental monitoring requirements, ALS Environmental also offers in-field sampling and monitoring,

direct data transfer, sample scheduling, automation of registering and a host of other support services.

“ALS has 7 core values: Honesty & Integrity; Exceeding Expectations; Belief in our ability; Hard work and continuous improvement; Doing it better; celebrating success and Safety as a priority. We strive to abide by these values, offering our customers products and services which are second to none,” concluded Nick. “Since ALS Purchased the Environmental business from Severn Trent labs in 2013, we have undergone major investment in our equipment and infrastructure. ALS Group operates by acquisition and we have several potential targets across Europe for the next financial year.”

ALS Environmental attends many exhibitions and trade shows throughout the year including the Coventry Chamber of Commerce expo, Healthcare Estates in October and Geotechnica.

The Finnish company, Dimwei Group Oy Ltd, has recently introduced a reliable and user-friendly static dimensioning system called Parcelcube to the market. The system can automatically capture the ID, dimension and weight of virtually any product or parcel. Incredibly, the cost of this dimensioning system is almost 70% lower than the solutions offered by competitors. Thanks to such reasonable pricing, even small and middle-sized companies are now able to take their inbound and outbound logistics to new heights. Use of the system also improves delivery accuracy and reduces freight costs.

The Parcelcube dimensioning system promptly identifies, measures and weighs virtually any product or package put on the scale. From the barcode, the data is transferred via a PC interface to the user’s WMS or ERP system. Parcelcube

uses the same technology as used in the market leader's corresponding systems. Parcelcube is just as effective as other comparable systems on the market, but at only a third of the cost.

The American company Hasbro is the world's second largest toy manufacturer with branches all over the globe. Hasbro Ltd UK uses Parcelcube in their inbound logistics to capture product data (dimensions and weights).

Boss Bellows: A very different approach to the supply of Bellows Expansion Joints

Since the formation of the company in 2011, BOSS Bellows continues to exceed

the expectations of even our most demanding customers when it comes to customer service and reduced lead times of industrial stainless steel bellows and expansion joints. Not only do we carry a vast stock of bellows membranes to cover a multitude of applications, all our joints are manufactured in-house – thus we retain complete ownership of the manufacturing process and lead time availability.

In addition, our increasingly popular ‘Rapid-Response’ breakdown service is a specialist division of the business designed to have the manufacturing

flexibility to provide either new or refurbished bellows expansion joints on a same or next working day basis. This division is all about the ‘can-do’ approach, staffed by people who take the challenge to resolve your breakdown situation in the shortest possible timescale very personally.

Joints are designed and manufactured in-house from 50mm/2” through to 3,000mm/120” DN and can be supplied in many configurations to suit your application in a range of stainless and ‘exotic’ alloys, be it for a low pressure exhaust or for higher pressure applications on pumps, heat exchangers, pipe work or other associated plant items. We also

supply ancillary components such as lagging, insulation jackets, gaskets and fixings, so we’re able to provide one delivery with all the components required for the installation of your joints.

We operate an ISO 9001: 2008 approved QMS and hold approval for the design and manufacture of metallic expansion joints up to and including module H of the European Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC), so whether you operate in the Chemical, Process, Offshore, Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Petrochemical or indeed any other industrial sector, if you have a requirement for bellows expansion joints why not put our claims to the test – we think you’ll be pleased that you did.

An innovative new book is about to hit the stores this week – designed for anyone with people management at the core of their business. Brain-Savvy Business takes the innovative stance of focusing on the latest advances in neuroscience and explaining how they can be applied to help businesses perform at their best.

Brain-Savvy Business is the latest book from renowned business author Jan Hills (pictured) the business leader behind the business consultancy Head Heart + Brain – and it aims to demystify how the brain works in relation to our business practices.

This is quite a revolutionary way of thinking because as the book explains, neuroscience is often counter-intuitive; the findings often

contradict established opinion, particularly when they relate to what helps and what hinders performance at work. But as the book goes on to clarify – whilst the challenge can feel uncomfortable, Jan and her team have found that they get results where other approaches don’t.

So the challenge is to explain how neuroscience can give leaders great insight into why a policy, practice or way of leading may not be working, or explain why it is working.

Brain-Savvy Business is published by Head Heart+Brain, available from Available in Amazon paperback and Kindle priced at £14.99.

Hot news on Consumer Units!SWA has launched a comprehensive range of special cable glands as new rules came into force aimed at preventing house fires caused by overheating consumer units.

Regulation 421.1.201, introduced under Amendment 3 to BS 7671, has been introduced because fire investigators reported increasing numbers of fires involving consumer units in plastic enclosures.

The regulation, which comes into force in January 2016, requires that consumer units being replaced must be made of ‘non-combustible’ material.

There are over 20 million domestic dwellings in the UK, so the change represents a huge opportunity for the industry.

It is also advised that all cable entry points have glands and seals to help contain any fire.

SWA’s new range of glands features specially designed inserts, providing an effective seal against flames. Available in both metal and nylon versions, it covers the full spectrum of applications, including meter tails, earth tails and twin & earth cables.

Save up to 65% on heating your warehouseGlobal Energy Systems design and manufacture air source heat pumps in the UK. Air source heat pumps are a renewable, cost-effective and an efficient way of heating. Air source heat pumps can fully replace a gas boiler, LPG, Oil, Electric or other forms of heating and can save up to 65% on your current heating bills.

Global Energy Systems’ air source heat pumps are commercially used throughout the UK and the following is a case study on the savings that they can offer, as the Air source heat pump heats Helical Technologies’ warehouse and they have huge savings on their heating bill as a result.

The warehouse has been operational through the winter of 2014/15 whilst being heated by the air source heat pump.

The target is to hold the internal space at a working temperature of 19°C rather than office temperatures. This is done through the use of

ceiling mounted fan convectors which both deliver the heat and destratify the air. Through the winter months with outside air temperatures as low as -6°C, internal building temperatures of 19°C have been held. The systems are however designed to work efficiently even with outside air temperatures as low as -20°C.

When running costs, potential RHI payments of £11,353 and Climate Change Levy charges are taken into account annual savings of nearly £18,000 are anticipated.

Automatic part cleaning for equipment repair and overhaulWalther Trowal presented its new, ground breaking TRT 83x37 washing machine at parts2clean 2015. It automatically removes thick layers of lubricants like grease as well as other contaminants from the surface of disassembled equipment components, which must be perfectly clean before they can be re-used for the repair and overhaul of equipment.

After years of operation, these components are usually covered with thick layers of grease and direct. They are simply placed

into the vibrating work bowl of the TRT 83x37, which is filled with non-abrasive processing media and a mix of water and degreasing compound. After about 20-45 minutes the components can be

removed perfectly clean.

The TRT 83x37 is suitable for workpieces with lengths of 80cm and diameters of up to 30cm. Walther Trowal designed this machine specifically for workshop operations where space is usually very tight: it requires a footprint of less than one square metre and uses no more energy than a hair drier.

UNISIG deep hole drilling systems consist of machines, durable tooling, and automation, and are designed to meet the highest performance standards possible. Products are engineered and manufactured in the USA using metric hardware, and include the integration of premium components such as FAG, INA, Parker, Rexroth, Rohm, Schunk, SKF, Wittenstein alpha and ZF. Products are designed following all applicable ISO, DIN and IEC standards, and are exported worldwide.

At the EMO 2015 show in Milan UNISIG will present the updated series of BTA deep hole drilling machines with ball screw feed for machining high-strength alloys. The model B380 will be shown under power configured

with 1,500mm depth, rotating workpiece and counter rotating tool with full guarding representing the recently updated line.

In addition to increased drill and feed power, all models now feature the latest Siemens control technology. With 500 memory positions for parts programs, the control software also offers a histogram of forces to be able to provide direct help in the

event of any irregularities.

This machine series has drilling performance of 65-300mm bore diameter, for drilling depths up to 12m. Additional options include: machines with only one driven spindle, versions for skiving and roller burnishing of hydraulic cylinders and accessories for bottle boring of internal profiles. Various guarding variations and automation solutions complete the product range.

Further information on all machines included in the B series and the complete UNISIG machine program available at: www.unisig.de or at MACH 2016 from 11-15 October 2016 at Birmingham’s NEC, UK, Hall 5/5684.

UNISIG: The deep hole drilling experts Pouch Machine Corporation introduces ‘Weigh in Pouch’ technologyThe Canadian-based packaging machine manufacturer, Pouch Machine Corporation, has introduced its first pouch machine with ‘Weigh in Pouch’ technology.

Integrated Load cells within its existing M7 pouch machine allows for the pouch to be weighed as it is filled, signalling the Auger that target weight has been achieved. The M7 goes on to seal the pouch and discharges it from the machine. This provides a higher accuracy over conventional volumetric drops.

“Our line of pouch machines allow you to move away from costly, labour-intensive manual packing to a world of affordable high-speed automation,” said Mark Dawson, Agent of Pouch Machine Corporation. “It is capable of interfacing with a multitude of fillers and designed to be simple to use

with a small footprint and the ability to run your existing pouches.”

The M7 has single and twin head models available. They can handle

pouches that are between 100mm and 500mm wide, while up to 600mm long.

“The M7 has a high resolution full colour touch screen control panel with sensory override capabilities,” Dawson added. “It also comes in six different languages and can store up to 50 recipes.”

The M7 has already had great success at the PPMA shows in Birmingham. Numerous users across Europe have successfully installed the machine and have had nothing but positive results. As a result, Pouch Machine Corporation is opening an office and showroom in Turnhout, Belgium.

The automated pouch machines are currently available on the website at: www.pouchmachine.com

Cleansing Service Group’s (CSG) oil and water treatment plant at Middlesbrough is to undergo a major upgrade in processing facilities to cater for the growing level of business the company is experiencing in the area.

A total of £750,000 is scheduled to be spent on a new soluble oil treatment and oily sludge centrifuge, together with the installation of a tank farm consisting of ten storage and processing tanks. A tanker washout facility and solids tipping bay are also included. This is in addition to the £150,000 invested last year to increase capacity and efficiency of treatment.

The 2.2 acre Middlesbrough site offers a wide range of waste treatment and recycling services including oil and water treatment, chemical analysis and a washing plant for contaminated industrial rags.

Fareham-based CSG says it has

successfully applied for a variation to the site’s existing PPC permit, and planning permission for the new tank farm had been approved. The company hopes to start operations early next year.

The company says the new investment, in addition to allowing a substantial increase in throughput, will result in a cleaner effluent. The oil recovered will also be of a much higher quality and the volume of sludge going to landfill will be reduced. The new storage facilities will also ensure a quicker turnaround time for tankers delivering to the site.

Mobile all-rounder, the new LISTA L3627 workshop trolleyThe new L3627 workshop trolley from LISTA has been thoroughly remodelled. The new model is now available with non-slip plastic top or 40mm wooden top, so that the trolley can now also be used as a mobile workbench. And in keeping with this concept, the maximum load of the housing has been increased to 400kg and the drawer load to an impressive 40kg.

Two fixed castors and two swivel castors mounted on roller bearings and made from solid rubber make the trolleys smooth-running and stable. Thanks to the single or double drawer safety

catch, the trolley remains closed even when subjected to vibration. A central locking system with replaceable cylinders provides a high level of security. And the ABS edging fitted all round protects against minor damage.

But above all, the new L3627 is amazingly versatile and ergonomic. A large number of add-ons and the extensive range of LISTA partition materials are available to adapt the trolley to individual requirements. And as you would expect from the Swiss manufacturer, the customer can freely determine the number of drawers and the colour of the housing. In any workspace: the new LISTA workshop trolley always looks good.

New Chocking Compound keeps Vibrations at BayAt a port operator in the UK, an extremely durable chocking system was required to ensure a new boiler would remain secure and protected, even when subjected to aggressive vibration activity.

Bad VibrationsThe long-term success of any chocking installation is determined by how well the machinery system is joined to the foundation. The base plate of the machinery system must become a monolithic member of the foundation system in order to ensure minimal vibration activity is achieved. If this system is insufficient, excessive vibration can lead to machinery failure; bolts can become slack, and in more severe cases, equipment can become misaligned.

A conventional chocking solution commonly employed to combat vibrations is metal shimming. However this technique can often be difficult to install and can loosen over time. Another option involves cement grouting, but not only does cement have poor mechanical properties, this method can incur significant cure time and will therefore require longer downtime.

Belzona SpecificationFollowing a Belzona inspection, the operator decided to chock the boiler into place using Belzona 7111 (Marine Grade). This two-component material is specially designed for use as a chocking or grouting compound to endure the physical and thermal shock common to marine environments. DNV GL approved and certified by major classification bodies including Lloyd’s Register Marine and the American Bureau of Shipping, Belzona 7111 is the ideal solution to withstand the damaging vibrations on the dredger.

The simple pouring method enables the application to be carried out with minimal downtime, while the high impact properties of the material will ensure the boiler will remain secure for the long term. In fact, when the impact resistance was tested using Izod Pendulum impact testing in accordance with ASTM D256, Belzona 7111 achieved

0.75 J/cm (un-notched). This indicates that when the chocking material is subjected to impact forces, the material will successfully absorb the shock, thus minimising the impact damage.

Simple Application MethodThe boiler was set into place using jacking bolts, and dams were built around each of the individual bolts in order to ensure a restricted chocking area. Belzona 7111 was then poured into the prepared areas.

Due to the way in which the boiler sat inside the engine room, there was limited access underneath which made it difficult to pour the product directly from the mixed unit into the chock area. A small curved steel section was therefore used as a channel to funnel the product, with a thickness of just over 2 inches, into the correct area. Once the application was completed and the system had cured, the dams were removed.

Fast Application and Cure ensures Minimal DowntimeDredgers are an important part of the world’s commerce system as much of the world’s goods travel by ship, and therefore need to access harbours or seas via channels. Thus the requirement of a fast-curing chocking material that incurs minimal downtime is critical in insuring this transport method does not become impaired or hindered. In this situation, as Belzona 7111 took just two hours to apply and only 48 hours to cure, this enabled the dredger to successfully continue its operation with minimum downtime and disruption. Furthermore, as Belzona had fully trained the operator and their application team on Belzona chocking applications, this enabled the application to be carried out on site without the need for an external representative; saving the operator unnecessary capital expenditure.

The importance of ensuring correct specification of Hose Assemblies & FittingsIndustrial hose, in general, is capable of many uses. They convey air, steam, water, chemicals and an almost unlimited assortment of other products from A to B. Sometimes transported substances move under great pressure and travel great distances.

When industrial hose and couplings are properly specified for the task, these assemblies perform their function flawlessly. However the potential hazards of hose assemblies are very real. When we try to get them to do things they were never designed to do, such as running steam through a chemical hose or using cam and groove couplings for air, they fail miserably with sometimes catastrophic results. To avoid potential harm to personnel, site and equipment; and to prevent product loss, Dixon stresses the importance of inspecting all hose assemblies prior to each use.

Hose failures, damaged end fittings and correct hose specification are just a few of the factors an onsite maintenance engineer might have to address on a day to day basis. Whether it’s the correct hose required or the right type of coupling for the application, it is often a minefield when it comes to finding a solutions provider with the correct experience you can trust.

With a hose range which covers a broad spectrum of application and a team of experienced and technical sales personnel, Dixon can offer you a complete service advising on the most appropriate solutions for your application.

The Dixon range of loose hose and hose assemblies is inclusive of composite, rubber, metallic, PTFE, food

& beverage, large bore, anti-static and spiral PVC and is complementary to their long established couplings sales.

Dixon Group Europe is one of a handful of companies certified to the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC to manufacture flexible hose assemblies. With manufacturing and engineering facilities approved by BSI and which comply with the requirements of ISO 9001 Dixon can design and produce individual customised products to find solutions to customer’s fluid & air handling problems.

Dixon is acutely aware of the need for products to be consistently reliable and rigid enough to withstand the challenges of today’s tough environmental world. To this end, Dixon are strongly committed to providing ‘the right connection’ in service, support and advice to ensure correct specification of their fully tested range of bespoke hose assemblies and couplings.

For Addison Saws, MACH 16 won’t simply provide an opportunity to present some of the very latest CNC sawing and cutting technologies to UK-based manufacturers and fabricators. Established in 1956, the Stourbridge business also plans to use the exhibition to mark its 60th anniversary.

“As the company that introduced a new breed of metal sawing machinery to the UK all those years ago,” comments Managing Director, Gary Knight, “it seemed only fitting that we should use MACH 16 to both celebrate our 60 years in business – and showcase some of the very latest cutting innovations.”

Showcasing the latest sawing, machining and tube bending solutionsAccordingly, visitors to Addison’s impressive 170m2 stand will be able to do much more than join in the company’s anniversary celebrations. At MACH 16, Addison Saws will be demonstrating a wide range of automated sawing solutions, a high-speed Mecal MC 307 Falcon 4-axis CNC machining centre – and a CSM all-electric hybrid push bender from sister company, Tubefab.

Machinery handpicked to inspire“The technologies we will be presenting have all been handpicked to inspire manufacturers and show the immense benefits that can be brought to their production strategies,” adds Gary Knight. “For example, alongside the

Mecal CNC machining centre, we will be demonstrating a new automatic saw from Tronzadoras. With Y-axis drilling capability on varying centre lines, it offers a wide range of exciting options for manufacturers of small components.”

The Mecal MC 307 Falcon – X-axis traverse speed of 150mpmWidely believed to be the fastest aluminium machining centres of their kind, Mecal MC 307 Falcons have an X-axis traverse speed of 150mpm – almost double that of their nearest rival. Other standard features include five automatic, individually motorised vices and an A-axis profile rotation from +135° to -135° for working three sides of each component. Fibre optic plc communication ensures rapid data transfer, while absolute smart motor servo drives deliver ultra-precise performance.

Steel and aluminium cutting technologiesThe saws on display at Addison’s MACH 16 stand will include: the all-new Everising H460 HB NC fully automatic enclosed bandsaw, a large-capacity Tronzadoras TL600 semi-automatic rising blade aluminium mitre saw, and the Tronzadoras GAA350 TR12 CNC aluminium vertical cut-off saw with Y-axis drilling capability. A newly released IMET twin pillar semi-automatic bandsaw will also be on show, as will IMET’s revised SIRIO 370 vertical action cold saw, and their new X Smart fully enclosed bandsaw – a heavy duty machine purpose-built for cutting cast iron, steel and high-strength

steels. “We are looking to include the widest range of innovative, new technologies,” says Gary Knight. “So one or two models may be switched in the run up to the show.”

CSM tube benders – accuracy, repeatability and reliabilityFinally, a CSM 50TBRE multi-stack, 4-axis all-electric hybrid tube bender from Tubefab will also be on display. Tubefab’s CSM benders are rapidly gaining recognition for their uncompromising repeatability and reliability – and linear/radial accuracy to 0.01mm/degrees – all while providing highly affordable solutions to some of the most challenging tube forming applications. Tubefab offers the entire range of CSM tube bending machines, from basic 3-axis hydraulic models to sophisticated, 11-axis, all-electric machines.

Industrial Excellence

The Leeds-based business is a trusted provider of security measures recognised on a national scale for its excellency in providing cost-effective solutions ever since its establishment in 2002. Its status as one of the few Approved Contractors Scheme (ACS) approved businesses in the industry – alongside the fact the team have won over 15 awards in just the past couple of years alone – really sets Acclaimed Security apart from the rest.

The well-respected company offers an array of services, such as: Key Holding & Alarmed Response, CCTV Monitoring, Mobile Patrols and Security Guarding. These premium quality solutions provide peace of mind for clients who want to rest assured that their properties, assets and employees will remain well protected at all points – and this can only be achieved through the installation of the latest security systems available.

One of the Acclaimed Security’s most popular innovations is its ground-breaking GuardSafe system; fitted boxes slotted into the corners of a building, effectively monitoring four designated patrol routes. This award-winning invention acts to instantly alert organisations when a guard is onsite, providing customers with complete confidence that their building is being safely supervised around the clock.

“GuardSafe is a unique patrol logging system which works in real time,” detailed Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security. “This means companies can have results within seconds – if there are any issues, they are flagged up immediately and dealt with accordingly. This is a vast difference to other businesses, whose results are typically provided after a much greater timespan – some can take as long as a month! We are proud to say that GuardSafe is a system exclusive to us; no-one else in the world has it.”

Another celebrated success is Check-Call, a service monitoring the performance of a guard on-duty by

ringing them hourly and checking they aren’t asleep on the job. This particular technology tracks the officer’s precise movements through routine calls, mobile responses and periodic checks to ensure the personnel are performing as they should be – and if the guards’ reasons to miss these calls are unsatisfactory then the Acclaimed Security supervisors will be on hand to assess the situation and act appropriately.

The security specialist has served numerous industrial and commercial outlets and well-regarded blue-chip companies including Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds City Council, Freight Liner, Tarmac, Seabrook Crisps, Vion Foods, Brake Brothers and Liberty Living. Its far-reaching customer base is testament to the industry-leading standard of service offered by the team of highly qualified and knowledgeable experts.

Roy was particularly pleased to mention that Acclaimed Security had recently secured a huge contract with AS K9 Ltd, an organisation working in accordance with canines to combat terrorism, drug control and general wrongdoing.
