EES Coke BatteryOmni Facility Services has been providingservices to DTE Energy s regional offices in AnnArbor for sometime, and earlier this yearexpanded services to their new EES Coke Batteryon Zug Island in the Delray area of Detroit,Michigan.

DTE s Energy Services Division is one of thelargest producers of coke for the steel industryin North America. These facilities heat rawmetallurgical coal to very high temperatures tomanufacture industrial grade coke. This coke isan essential component in the steel making

process. Annually, DTE s coke batteryovens produce nearly a million tons ofcoke.

One such coke battery is located in theindustrial heart of Detroit on Zug Islandservicing US Steel s Great Lakes WorksSteal Division and Mittal.

When DTE Energy took over theoperations of the coke battery last year,they spent nearly three million dollarson a new office and locker complex.This new facility contains state-of-artHVAC systems, the latest in technologyand office design bringing adramatically improved level ofprofessionalism deep into the field. Toprotect this large investment, DTEEnergy has partnered with Omni to

OmniResponds toHurricane Disasters

All of us at Omni have been deeply moved bythe devastation and human tragedy that hasresulted from recent natural events in the GolfCoast region of our country and like many of youone of our first thoughts was what can we do?The answer came from an Omni employee(Michael G. Cadotte) looking for co-workers tohelp in a church relief effort he was working on.

The effort was to make some Flood Buckets [fivegallon buckets filled with specific cleaningsupplies that would be sent to UMCOR (a relief

agency in Baldwin, LA) to help flood victims and relocated refugees start over] and sendthem down to those in need. Omni stepped in; and with the leadership of Mike Cadotte(Dir. of Admin) and Ron Zacharias (V.P. Marketing), and invaluable help from LowerHuron (an Omni vendor) began an ambitious project to make over 2,500 Flood Buckets!

At the time of this publication Cadotte reported, We have found a manufacture (The LatickaCorporation) to make our buckets and are now working on other companies to donate ordiscount the supplies we need to fill each bucket. We have a timeline of mid-October todeliver our completed buckets to UMCOR whom we are in continuous contact with. Whencompleted, the project will fill an entire semitrailer for shipment. This project brings asense of pride and satisfaction knowing that our efforts, as small as they are, will directlyhelp another person begin to pick up the pieces of their lives and have a clean start. I amvery pleased with the response from Omni, its vendors and other local companies for theirgenerous support in our efforts, said Cadotte.

It was a bit bumpy to start, having tolearn all the safety regulations - you haveto cross some six railroad tracks aloneto get to the office; but we haveestablished a good system with aneffective crew working with Frank[Carter - Omni Site Manager], saidPaul Mazurco, Omni s OperationalManager overseeing EES Coke Battery.
