Dear O’Gorman Parents/Guardians: As we enter our final weeks of the fall semester, I want to thank all of our families for your commitment to Catholic education. The past few months have been busy but exciting as we celebrated victories and supported each other in times of weakness. Through all of it, Jesus Christ has been at the center of our hearts and motivation. Thank you for the sacrifices you make to allow your students to attend O’Gorman High School. Below are some notes to guide you through the next three weeks. Late Start School will start at 9 :00 AM on Friday, December 7 due to a faculty meeting. Semester Care Packages The semester test care packages have become a fun tradition here at OG. Please see the order form in this news-letter for more information. Deadline to order a care package for your student is Monday, Dec. 3. Spring Semester Notes School resumes for the spring semester on Thursday, January 3. Students will receive their spring schedules in advisories that morning. They will have until Tuesday, January 8 to drop or add a course pending availability. Stu-dents will only be added to a course if an opening is available. We will not overload a course unless it is the only way to make a student’s schedule complete. We appreciate all that you do, and we wish you a blessed Advent and Christmas season. Joan Mahoney, Principal

Christmas Vespers Attendance Matters
Attendance Tip of the Month: Encourage your child to
get involved in at least one school activity. Studies show
the more involved a child and parents are with their
school, the better their attendance and success is.
Attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student
performance at O’Gorman!
Students at O’Gorman who miss less than 10 days of
school have a higher GPA and ACT score than students
who go above 10 absences.
You can check the attendance of your student in Infi-
nite Campus by clicking on the attendance tab in the
left column.
A reminder that ten or more absences from a class in
any one semester may result in loss of credit for that
class.
At this point in the semester, students who have more
than seven absences are at risk for going over ten.
If your student is going to be gone for any reason, please
contact Pam Gordon in the attendance office at 575-
3310.
SFCS Weather-Related Information
Dear SFCS Families:
As we transition from the fall season into the winter season, I wanted to share the process Sioux Falls Catholic Schools utilizes when it
comes to inclement weather. We work in collaboration with the SF Public Schools, SF Christian Schools, representatives from the
National Weather Service, City of Sioux Falls as well as local transportation directors and emergency personnel to determine the
current and future weather patterns, road conditions, and response times in town. Each component is evaluated, and we weigh our op-
tions to ensure the safety of all students and families.
When it comes to communicating whether our school day begins with a late start, is canceled or early release, we will utilize our
school messenger system, local television stations, social media accounts, and radio stations to communicate our message if your
child’s school day is being impacted by weather.
The family always has the final decision when determining if they send their children to school or choose to keep them home if they
believe the weather is too dangerous. The school will note this as an excused absence.
Regarding activities during inclement weather, SFCS Activities Director collaborates with the SF Public Schools’ Activities Director
to decide on cancellations for junior high and high school activities.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Kyle L. Groos, Ed.S.
SFCS President

Congratulations OG Oral Interp and Debate! O’Gorman High School has recently been named one of the Top 100 schools in the Nation-al Speech & Debate Association for the 2017-2018 school year. O’Gorman ranked 67 out of more than 3,500 schools nationwide, according to the announcement from the National Speech and Debate Association! Also, due to the incredibly high number of students involved in the OG speech and debate program and the degrees they have earned through competition, O’Gorman has ranked among the Top 2% of schools nationwide and earned membership in the Association’s pres-tigious Societe´ 400. This milestone is remarkable because it demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills—including communication, research, listening, writing, and organization. A huge thank you to Ms. Teresa Fester and Mr. Bob Stevens for all of their hard work and dedication to our nationally recognized speech and debate programs!

Operation Advent
This year O†Gorman students and staff are once
again adopting the Bishop Dudley Hospitality
House for Advent. Last year was a great
success, and we at OG hope to continue a long
tradition of support between our students and
the people in the Sioux Falls Community.
With everyone’s help, we will make sure that
all who stay in BDHH on Christmas Eve will
wake up with a gift Christmas morning. 240
stockings will be filled with items that the
guests of BDHH often have to share or go
without. Razors, deodorant, socks, hats, gloves,
shampoo, conditioner and more will bless each
individual. Children will receive many of these
same items as well as a toy or age specific item.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve
Christ in our community.
In addition to the stockings, each student
advisory group will fill boxes with items that
the BDHH can use throughout the year: towels,
bed sheets, soap, Band-Aids etc. A complete
list of requested items can be found below.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to
participate in this opportunity. The final
advisory collection will take place on Monday,
December 18. Collection boxes are available
throughout the high school. May Jesus Christ
be the king of your heart this Advent season!

Among those that qualify, recipients will be chosen based on GPA, test scores, activities, honors, community service, and a written essay. Not all eligible applicants will be selected for a scholarship. From the total pool of applicants, a limited number of recipients will be selected.
