Prontuario Título del Curso: Procesamiento de Palabras II

Pre-requisito: OFAS 221
Descripción: Este curso continúa desarrollando las funciones, destrezas y conocimientos
avanzados para producir información en la computadora utilizando un programa
de procesar palabras. El estudiante aplicará sus conocimientos y destrezas al
producir desde cartas simples hasta documentos complejos de varias páginas.
El estudiante producirá documentos comerciales dentro de un tiempo razonable
sin la supervisión directa del supervisor.
Además, este curso desarrolla las destrezas y las técnicas básicas para producir
un mínimo de 41 palabras en ejercicios de 5 minutos como sugiere la oficina. Se
le dará énfasis a la destreza de cotejo y a las buenas relaciones interpersonales.
Objetivos Generales: Meta: Mediante ocho talleres y diferentes actividades complementarias se
espera que el/la estudiante domine el formato de los documentos comerciales y
funciones simples y complejas con el uso adecuado del programa de
procesamiento de palabras.
Al finalizar el curso, el/la estudiante estará capacitado(a) para:
1. Escribir en la computadora de copia corrida durante 5 minutos a una rapidez mínima de 41 palabras por minuto.

2. Demostrar destrezas avanzadas en la creación y revisión de documentos en la computadora.
3. Teclear problemas de oficina de diferentes naturalezas en forma aceptables y a una rapidez razonable, con el mínimo de instrucciones específicas al utilizar conocimientos y destrezas previas.
4. Cotejar sus trabajos cuidadosamente y corregirá los errores detectado.
5. Usar efectivamente las guías de referencia, el diccionario y los materiales complementarios cuando sea necesario.
6. Seguir instrucciones con una actitud positiva hacia su trabajo, cooperación, responsabilidad, buena apariencia personal y buenas relaciones con sus compañeros y profesores.

Pruebas de Rapidez y Exactitud – Se deben desarrollar destrezas de rapidez en cada uno
de los talleres. Además se evaluará el cotejo. (Ver Anejo D)
Asistencia – Será obligatoria a cada taller. La misma es importante para completar los
requisitos del curso. Cualquier situación particular deberá ser discutida con el profesor.

Asignaciones – Es importante que el/la estudiante complete las asignaciones
correspondientes a cada taller. Además debe dedicar horas de estudio semanales para
lograr las metas establecidas para este curso. De no entregar sus asignaciones a tiempo
será penalizado con una cantidad de puntos menos a discreción del/ de la facilitador(a).
Prueba de Producción – El estudiante realizará en el salón tres pruebas de producción que
desarrollen destrezas de formatos discutidos en clase (aplicando funciones estudiadas).

Descripción de las normas del curso:
• La asistencia es obligatoria. El estudiante debe excusarse con el/la
facilitador(a), si tiene alguna ausencia y reponer todo trabajo. El/la
facilitador(a) se reserva el derecho de aceptar la excusa y el trabajo
presentado y ajustar la evaluación, según entienda necesario.
• Las presentaciones orales y actividades especiales no se pueden reponer, si
el estudiante presenta una excusa válida y constatable (ej. médica o de
tribunal), se procederá a citarlo para un examen escrito de la actividad a la
cual no asistió.
• Este curso es de naturaleza acelerada y requiere que el estudiante se
prepare antes de cada taller, según especifica el módulo. Se requiere un
promedio de 10 horas semanales para prepararse para cada taller.
• El estudiante debe someter trabajos de su autoría, por lo tanto, no deberá
incurrir en plagio. Debe dar crédito a cualquier referencia.
• Si el/la facilitador(a) realiza algún cambio, deberá discutir los mismos con el
estudiante en el Taller Uno. Además, entregará los acuerdos por escrito a
los estudiantes y al Programa.
• El/la facilitador(a) establecerá el medio y proceso de contacto.
• El uso de teléfonos celulares está prohibido durante los talleres.
• No está permitido traer niños o familiares a los salones de clases.
• Si tienes algún impedimento que requiere acomodo razonable, por favor
notifícalo al/a la facilitador(a).

Study Guide Course Title: Word Processing II
Code: OFAS 222
Time Length: Ocho semanas
Pre-requisite: OFAS 221
Description: This course keep developing advanced functions, skills, and knowledge of the
word processing program. The student will apply his/her knowledge and skills by
creating simple letters to complex documents.
The student will produce business documents within reasonable time with no
direct supervision from his/her supervisor. In addition, this course develops basic
techniques and the skills needed to reach a minimum of 41 words per minute in
an exercise of five minutes. Emphasis will be given to proofreading skills and
good interpersonal relations.
Objetive: Goal: During the eight workshops and its activities, the student will master the
basic and advanced functions and formats of business documents with suitable
use of a word processing program.
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Type from a copy during five minutes with a minimum of 41 words per minute.
2. Demostrate advanced skills by creating and revising documents in the
computer.
3. Key different documents at a reasonable speed with a minimum of instructions and using his/her previous knowledge.

4. Apply proofreading skills.
5. Use reference guides, dictionary, and resources as needed.

Attendance – will be mandatory to each workshop. This is very important to complete
course requisites. Any particular situation will have to be discussed with the facilitator.

Assignments – It is important that the student completes all assignments required to each
workshop. Weekly study hours are necessary to fulfill the goals established for this course.
No turn assignments in on time, will be penalized with subtractions of points at facilitator’s
discretion.
Production Tests – the student will take three production test in order to develop format skills
discussed in class (applying studied functions). Suggested Topics:

Description of course policies: 1. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Absences must be discussed
with the facilitator. Students should make up all presentations, papers, or
other assignments that were due on the day of the absence. The facilitator
will have the final decision on approval of absences. S/he reserves the right
to accept o reject assignments due, and adjust the grade accordingly.
2. The student will have the opportunity to learn through Spanish as well as
through English. Workshops will be facilitated in both languages (English and
Spanish) on alternate days. This translates into workshops that will be
facilitated each day in a different language. A student may interact and ask
questions in the language of his/her preference, but in general s/he will be
asked to use one language for specific tasks. Each workshop will have an
equal balance of Spanish and English.
3. This course is delivered in an accelerated format and requires that students
prepare in advance for each session, according to the course guide. Each
class session requires approximately 10 hours of preparation.
4. It is expected that all work will be solely that of the students and should not be
plagiarized. All quoted material must be properly cited.
5. If the facilitator makes any changes to the study guide, these should be
discussed with the students during the first workshop. Changes agreed upon
should be indicated in writing and given to the students and to the program
administrator.
6. The facilitator will establish the means of communication with the students.
7. The use of cell phones is prohibited during workshops.
8. Bringing children or family members to the workshops it’s prohibited.
9. If you have any kind of impairment that requires reasonable accommodation,
please notify the facilitator.

Taller Uno
Objetivos Específicos: Al finalizar el curso, el/la estudiante estará capacitado(a) para:
1. Identificar adecuadamente las partes básicas y funciones de la ventana principal del programa de procesamiento de palabras.
2. Aplicar destrezas básicas utilizando funciones del programa de procesamiento de palabras.
3. Usar las funciones del programa de procesamiento de palabras para
realizar sus tareas como: abrir el programa, cambiar renglones de espacios, centralizar, cambiar márgenes, fijar tabuladores, guardar, imprimir, negrillas, insertar y utilizar la tecla de TAB.
4. Aplicar y practicar la destreza de rapidez en el teclado.
5. Teclear documentos legales utilizando el formato adecuado. 6. Reflexionar sobre el material discutido en clase.

Tareas a realizar antes del Taller Uno: Instrucciones:
1. Realiza una visita de observación al programa Microsoft Word practicando con los botones y funciones de las barras más comunes.
2. Utiliza la hoja del Anejo A - Ventana Microsoft Word y escribe el nombre de las funciones básicas del programa. (Para entregar 5 puntos)
3. Busca y lee información sobre documentos legales en computadora. 4. Contesta para entregar al/a la facilitador(a) las siguientes preguntas
utilizando una hoja de portada: (7 puntos) ¿Qué márgenes se colocan al realizar una escritura? ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre papel rayado color rojo y papel
rayado color azul? Mencione documentos legales donde se utiliza papel azul Mencione documentos legales donde se utiliza papel rojo ¿Qué Tribunal prefiere el papel tamano 8½ x 11? ¿Cómo se escriben las descripciones de las propiedades en
una escritura?
Actividades:
1. Presentación del facilitador(a) y los estudiantes del grupo.
2. Realizar un ejercicio “rompe hielo” para que el grupo se conozca. 3. Discutir los objetivos, la evaluación del curso, explicar y aclarar las dudas
sobre el curso, el módulo y su uso.
4. El facilitador proveerá una prueba diagnóstica de funciones básicas del programa de procesamiento de datos (Anejo B).
5. Se dividirá la clase en pequeños grupos para discusión de la asignación. Cada grupo informará su discusión al resto del grupo, haciendo énfasis el facilitador en los conceptos más importantes.

6. El/la estudiante ejecutará las funciones más importantes del programa de procesamiento de palabras mediante ejercicios de práctica que provea el/la facilitador(a).
7. El/la estudiante realizará práctica del uso y manejo de distintas
herramientas del programa de procesamiento de palabras.
8. Trabajará en actividades de desarrollo del teclado en ejercicios prácticos de rapidez y exactitud cotejando sus errores.
9. El/la estudiante evaluará sus ejercicios prácticos siguiendo los criterios
de evaluación de las pruebas de rapidez y exactitud. El/la facilitador(a) aclarará dudas sobre el formato y las funciones del procesamiento de palabras.
10. Los estudiantes discutirán verbalmente las instrucciones escritas para
realizar documentos legales y trabajarán en la realización de documentos legales que provea el/la facilitador(a).
11. El/la facilitador(a) aclarará las dudas relacionadas con las tareas del
próximo taller.
Avalúo:
1. El estudiante realizará una actividad de assessment llenando el Anejo C -Hoja de Reflexión.
2. Entregará la Hoja de Reflexión al finalizar el Taller.
3. Mediante los hallazgos en la prueba diagnóstica y la reflexión del Taller uno, el/la facilitador(a) podrá repasar lo que así amerite para el próximo Taller.

1. Create newsletters using a word processing program. 2. Apply the following functions of the word processing program: insert
picture, retrieve it, edit picture, vertical and horizontal lines, and print it.
3. Enhance document format with graphics and diagrams.
4. Enhance speed and accuracy skills.
5. Review on what they have learned during the workshop by doing an assessment activity.

Activities:
1. Highlights concepts discussed in previous workshop. 2. The facilitator will discuss the finding of the diagnostic test.
3. Guided by the facilitator, students will discuss the information that they
found about Clip Art.
4. The facilitator will show how to insert clip art to create a newsletters.
5. The students will create a newsletter.
6. Class is divided into small groups to discuss their newsletters.
7. The student will take the First Speed and Accuracy Test. The students will type two exercises per three minutes, they will check and identify any errors. The Curve I on Appendix D will be used for evaluation.
8. The facilitator will clarifies any doubts regarding to next workshop.

1. The student will turn Appendix C in to the facilitator.
2. Using the findings from Appendix C (Journal Sheet), the facilitator will clarify any doubts or questions in the next workshop.

Taller Tres
Objetivos Específicos: Al finalizar el curso, el/la estudiante estará capacitado(a) para:
1. Teclear tablas complejas haciendo uso de la computadora.
2. Usar las funciones del programa de procesamiento de palabras para realizar tareas como: insertar y recuperar gráficos, cambiar los márgenes, crear columnas, aumentar y disminuir el tamaño a los gráficos, tabuladores, “custom lines” e imprimir .
3. Aplicar el formato adecuado para diseñar documentos con gráficos.
4. Operar adecuadamente el programa de procesamiento de palabras para
desarrollar destrezas de rapidez y exactitud.
5. Diseñar documentos de tipo periódico utilizando el formato y manejo de gráficos adecuadamente.
6. Reflexionar acerca de su aprendizaje durante el taller en actividad de
assessment.

Edición de tablas en un programa de procesamiento de palabras
Tablas con gráficos
2. Contesta para entregar al/a la facilitador(a) las siguientes preguntas utilizando una hoja de portada: (4 puntos)
¿Cómo puedes arrastrar o mover un gráfico? ¿Cuáles son los pasos para realizar una línea horizontal? ¿Cómo puedes modificar el grueso de una línea?
3. Practica la rapidez utilizando un reloj siguiendo la curva II durante
cinco minutos. Corrige los errores y vuelve a realizar el ejercicio.
4. Prepárese para tomar la segunda prueba de rapidez y exactitud siguiendo la Curva II. (Ver Anejo D)
Actividades:
1. Resumen de los conceptos discutidos en taller anterior. 2. Discutir los hallazgos de la reflexión del taller anterior. 3. Discutir la preguntas de asignación, aclarar dudas y entregar al/a la
facilitador(a).
4. El/la estudiante repasarán cuáles son las instrucciones básicas para el formato de un documento que contenga gráficos.
5. Guiados por el/la facilitador(a) trabajarán con la función de columnas y
practicarán en el diseño de una hoja informativa de tipo periódico.
6. El/la estudiante realizará prácticas de ejercicios de tablas aplicando la función de custom lines.
7. El/la estudiante realizará prácticas de rapidez en dos ejercicios de cinco
minutos cada uno. El/la estudiante cotejará los errores. Al finalizar las prácticas realizará la segunda prueba de rapidez y exactitud utilizando la Curva II de pruebas de rapidez. (Ver Anejo D)

Segunda prueba de rapidez y exactitud
Se realizará la primera prueba de rapidez y exactitud utilizando la Curva II de pruebas de rapidez. (Ver Anejo D)
Avalúo:
1. El/la estudiante realizará la reflexión diaria llenando el Anejo C – Hoja de Reflexión.
2. Entregará al/a la facilitador(a) la hoja de reflexión diaria al finalizar el
taller.
3. Utilizando los hallazgos de la reflexiones el/la facilitador(a) aclarará dudas o preguntas en el próximo taller.

Workshop Four
Specific Objectives: By the end of this course the student will be able to:
1. Create tables and perform calculations in tables.
2. Apply the following functions using Microsoft Word: split cells, calculator, merge, and printing.
3. Design form letters with envelopes and labels using the Letters and
Mailing tool.
4. Demonstrate mastery of speed and accuracy in a five minutes test following Curve II. (See Appendix D)
4. The student will go over what his/her has learned by doing the Journal

Assignments before Workshop Four: Instructions:
1. The students will find tables using formula, such as financial statements, invoices, etc. Choose two samples and bring them in to discuss its elaboration.
2. Develop speed using a timer, following Curve II for five minutes. Correct
any errors and perform the exercise again. (Appendix D)
Activities:
1. Highlights the concepts discussed in previous workshop. 2. Discuss the finding on the Journal Sheet (Appendix C).
3. The students and the Facilitator will create a document using templates
and mail merge.
4. The student will take a speed drill.
5. The student will take the third Speed and Accuracy test. It will be evaluated using Curve II. (See Appendix D)
6. After the speed test, the facilitator will clarify any doubts for the next
workshop. Evaluation:
The third Speed and Accuracy Test will be administered and it will be evaluated using Curve II. (See Appendix D)
Assessment:
1. The student will turn in the Journal Sheet to the facilitator. Any doubts will be clarified. (Appendix C)

Tareas a realizar antes del Taller Cinco: Instrucciones:
1. Lee y estudia acerca de: Formas comerciales Tablas complejas
2. Practica la rapidez utilizando un reloj siguiendo la curva II durante cinco
minutos. Corrige los errores y vuelve a realizar el ejercicio.. (Ver Anejo D) 3. Practica y repasa acerca de aplicar funciones básicas, intermedias y
avanzadas del programa de procesamiento de palabras.
4. Prepárate para tomar la prueba de producción I desarrollando el formato de formas comerciales y tablas complejas.
Actividades:
1. Resumen de los conceptos discutidos en taller anterior. 2. Discutir los hallazgos de la reflexión del taller anterior. 3. El/la estudiante desarrollará documentos como: agenda, opúsculo
(brochure), memorando y carta de dos pliegos haciendo uso de ejercicios que provea el/la facilitador(a). Puede utilizarse algunos ejercicios del libro de texto.
4. Se discutirán los ejercicios realizados en clase.
5. El/la estudiante practicará un ejercicio de rapidez con duración de tres
minutos. El estudiante seguirá la curva para la evaluación de la rapidez y exactitud. (Ver Anejo D)
6. Cotejarán los errores e identificarán la dificultad y practicando
nuevamente el mismo.
5. El/la estudiante tomará la prueba I de producción desarrollando el formato de formas comerciales y tablas complejas.

Assignments before Workshop Six: Instructions:
1. Identify and practice the word processing program functions to be used in letters, memos, reports, and tables.
2. Enhance speed using a timer, following Curve II for five minutes. Correct
any errors and perform exercise again. (Appendix D)
Activities:
1. Highlights the concepts discussed in Workshop Five. 2. The Facilitator will discuss the assignment. 3. The student will type exercises provided by the facilitator to apply his/her

4. The student will take a speed drill before take the fourth Speed and Accuracy Test. It will be evaluated using Curve III.

1. El/la estudiante debe leer y repasar sobre: Formato de tablas rayadas Formato de etiquetas Formato de itinerarios
2. Contesta para entregar al/a la facilitador(a) las siguientes preguntas
utilizando una hoja de portada: (7 puntos) ¿Qué características tiene un itinerario? ¿Qué partes tiene el formato deben tener las etiquetas? Describe la diferencias y semejanzas entre una tabla rayada y
una sin rayar.

6. Tomarán ejercicios en la computadora sobre el desarrollo de documentos como tablas rayadas, itinerarios y etiquetas que provea el/la facilitador(a).
7. El/la facilitador(a) aclarará dudas o preguntas sobre el desarrollo y la
realización a los ejercicios.
8. Guiados por el/la facilitador(a) trabajarán ejercicios de desarrollo de rapidez que aparecen en el libro o los que el/la facilitador(a) determine.
9. Realizar la prueba de rapidez y exactitud siguiendo los criterios de la
curva III y las normas de cotejo. Los estudiantes evaluarán sus propios ejercicios siguiendo esos criterios. (Ver Anejo D)
