Dear Colleagues,n behalf of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) and its 82 leading ICT associations representing more than

90% of the Global ICT industry, we are delighted to welcome you to WITSA’s 2016 World Congress on IT. WITSA would like to congratulate the Federa-tion of Associations of the Brazilian Companies for Information Technology (ASSESPRO) for being selected as the host for WCIT 2016 in Brasilia, Brazil.

In October of 1969, when the first ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) host-to-host (meaning independent network-to-inde-pendent network) connection was established between the University of California at Los Angeles and the Stanford Research Institute. This first packet sharing connection between two networks became the cornerstone for what came to be known in the early ‘70s as the Internet. It was not long until the connection began to be used for email and in 1976, the first commercial email service, Comet, was established. In 1993 the World Wide Web came into being. These innovations started a revolution. A revolution of information and communication technologies resulting in the emergence a new age called: The Digital Age or as some refer to it the Information/Knowledge Age. An age with a promise unimagined by its creators, digital technologies continue to impact nearly every aspect of human life; creating new industries, jobs, wealth, increased commerce, virtual education, and improved health care. The list of new innovations and benefits are endless.

This new age is not without its drawbacks, challenges, cynics and critics. However, none are insurmountable or unsolvable except perhaps one: Global inclusion. Even though ICT’s have the potential of benefiting everyone on earth, it does not mean they will. The ultimate report card for those entrusted with including everyone in the Digital Age has yet to be graded. It will be up to those governments, industries, societies and individuals responsible for including everyone on the planet to earn the highest grade.

It is only appropriate that WITSA, the leading voice of the global ICT industry, orchestrate periodical reviews of the status and progress of the development and inclusion of the new age. WITSA finds itself in a unique situation for such reviews in that for the past 38 years, WITSA brings together over 1800 major ICT stakeholders from industry, governments, civil society, institutions, youth, academia and media from over 80 counties at the WCIT in dif-ferent geographic locations. All of whom have a key role in ensuring that the promise of the Digital Age- a promise that every person on earth regardless of where they live, their age, education, faith, culture, economic status or social standing benefits from information and communication technologies. It is only logical that the architecture and design of WITSA’s WCIT congresses are structured to examine the major pillars (subject matter) that support the development of the Digital Age.

We are confident that WCIT 2016 will be a rewarding and unforgettable experience for all.

Often referred to as the “Olympics” of the ICT industry, the World Congress on IT brings together thought leaders and senior executives from industry, government, international institutions, academia, civil society and the media to discuss how ICT continues to revolu-tionize nearly every aspect of human life.

As a participant in WCIT 2016, you will play an important role in discussing and identifying new and innovative approaches to our shared goal of fulfilling the promise of the digital age for everyone!

On behalf of WITSA, we know that you will find this special event of great value, both now and in the future. The congress is a wonderful opportunity to sponsor as well as to attend.See you in Brasilia!

Yours sincerely

Santiago Gutierrez Dr. Jim Poisant Jeovani Ferreira SalomãoWITSA Chairman WITSA Secretary General WCIT 2016 Chairman
