October Newsletter 2017 NEW PRO SHOP GRAND OPENING This Friday the 13 th of October at 7pm we will be the Grand Opening of our new Pro Shop and Managers Office. We have builders, painters, stonemasons, electricians, sign writers and asphalters all busy working in and around the Clubhouse at present with the aim of finishing by Friday. We will not have everything done by Friday but most will be completed certainly enough to open the Pro Shop. All Members are invited to attend the opening ceremony which will be at 7pm just prior to the AGM. I would just like to congratulate the QGC Board and especially Kim Wilkinson who has attended hundreds of meetings, fielded hundreds of emails and phone calls managing this project. I think you all will be impressed with what has been achieved. AGM Our Clubs Annual General Meeting will be here at the Club on Friday the 13 th of October at 7.30pm following the Grand Opening of the Pro Shop. All Members invited to attend.

WORKING BEE

A big thankyou to the 25 Dad and Mums army who turned out to tidy up around the Clubhouse and Carpark. Anyone wanting to be on the Mum & Dads army emailing list (or want a lesson on how to start a chainsaw..) contact Dad – aka – Bruce Cunningham on [email protected]

BOARD REPORT

We spent some time at the August Board meeting reviewing progress on the Clubhouse Building Project and the costs associated with this. The building work is well on the way to completion and is starting to look very good. At that time costs were estimated at $630K excluding any additional (unknown) costs to come for the month of September. Total fundraising to date was $556,022 with still more expected from outstanding grant applications and donations from the Membership for Life Draw. This was considered to be a very good result and in line with the Board’s expectations. Final figures will not be available probably until November. The Official Opening Ceremony for the new Pro Shop and other works will take place at 7pm on Friday 13th October and we would remind members that our AGM will follow on

Building Project All has gone relatively smoothly over the past three months with the construction of the new pro shop and lobby entrance and we look forward to the opening on Friday evening. Over the next few weeks John, Matthew and the team will transition into their new surroundings and gradually restock the pro shop. I think we all agree the results look fantastic. I would like to thank the many club members who have become involved with the project including members who have been directly involved and those who have contributed financially. It's been a wonderful team effort from all concerned and I'm sure we will all enjoy the results of the development for years to come.

Kim Wilkinson (Project Coordinator)

PRESIDENTS REPORT

A reminder to all of our A.G.M. and the official opening of the Pro Shop extensions and the new entrance layout will be held on Friday the 13th October. The A.G.M. is scheduled to start at approximately 7.30p.m. and the official opening at 7.00p.m. We encourage members to be early, so everyone can enjoy this very significant occasion. A big thank you to the Mum and Dad’s army working bee held on Monday Morning. There was close to 30 members working under the direction of Bruce Cunningham cleaning up the gardens, car parking and new pro shop areas. This has made the area look a lot tidier for the official opening on Friday. September/October is a very busy time for Ian and his staff. The coring has been carried out, the weather was not kind and it created a lot of additional work. With the additional workforce of our Kitchen and Pro shop staff, along with Bruce and Holmes our coring was completed. With the sanding now underway the greens are now coming back to their usual high standard. Thank you to club members for giving me the privilege of being your club President for the past 2 years. I have very much enjoyed holding this position. Owen Lavender – Club President

WOMEN’S REPORT Spring has arrived and the chilly winds are back. However, that has not deterred the good fields. I am pleased so many players have entered competitions at other courses. If we want support for our tournaments we must support other clubs. Sadly many of the Central Otago clubs are having much smaller fields in their competitions. So please take note of future tournaments and support them We are hosting the Central Otago Championships this year. We are combining that with our usual November Tournament. The Central Otago Championship has a 36-hole competition for Silver players and a team competition for 3 best gross over 36 holes. The rest of the field play 18 holes in 3 divisions. The date for both is 8 November. I hope you will support this well. Thank you to all players in the Transport Cup competition. All matches played by due date so far. And win or lose everyone in this competition has had a very good close match. Our Closing day will be combined with Prize Giving on 5 December. We are planning an exciting day! AGM is this Friday. I hope you can all come and admire the new facility. My best wishes to Kathryn and Janet, the new Club Captains. And thank you again to the Pro Shop staff who are always so supportive. Nola Pratt - Women’s Club Captain

Central Otago Pennant Finals

Our Intermediate and Junior teams both made the C.O. pennant finals played at Millbrook. Unfortunately, our Juniors could not repeat their success of the past two years and lost on countback to Alexandra. Our Intermediates tied with top seed Cromwell in their semi-final but won on countback 10 – 9 then prevailed over nearby rivals Arrowtown 4 – 2 in the final to take out the C.O. trophy. A fantastic effort from Corey Sinteur and his team and good luck for the Otago finals this Sunday in Dunedin.

Both of our Presidents’ teams narrowly missed out on making the C.O. Finals.

Interclub

Our Interclub team led by Robbie Freer currently sits 6th out of 8 teams and will be looking to repeat last year’s late run to move up the leader-board over the final 2 rounds.
