GOLF COURSE UPDATE Wow, it is hard to believe the temperatures we have had in January. It is looking like we are going to have another good month for golf by looking at the long-range forecast. February is looking to be warm and wet. March and April are predicted to be cold and wet. This month we will be working on completing our winter projects and preparing for the start of the golfing season. We will be maintaining bunkers, moving tee markers and cutting holes if the ground isn’t froze. Please enter and exit bunkers on the lower sides to prevent sand from shifting off the steep slopes. Remember to continue using sand and seed and return your bottles to the pro shop so they can be filled. Repair yours and one more ball mark on the greens. If the weather is cold call the maintenance shop or the pro shop to get a frost update. If you have any questions or comments stop me on the course or call me at the maintenance facility. The agreement for the acquisition of the club by the NPTE contained several stipulations to assure an effective transition from the former Country Club Board ownership to NPTE ownership and operation. Chief among the stipulations for the first year was the requirement that the Golf Shop operate as it has previously, under the ownership and management of Jordan Mackey. Jordan’s Golf Shop has operated for several years at our club and we all appreciate the friendship, camaraderie, and great service that Jordan and his team have provided. Our intention is to have Jordan continue managing the pro shop as the PGA pro for our club. There will be a transition in ownership at the pro shop as we sort out financial, policy, and operating issues for the continued operation of the shop. The pro shop will be closed for several days during February in order to install a new information technology system which will integrate all financial transactions (pro shop & clubhouse), inventory management, and membership billing and account management in one package. This system will ensure the real-time processing of transactions and will result in more timely and accurate posting of transactions and will facilitate the use of on-line payments. Now that we have completed the transition period we will be shifting from the previous country club business model to a golf club, with emphasis on golfing memberships. A planning team led by Shelby Leighton is currently mapping out our options for developing the Club facilities and grounds for the future. FROM THE GOLF SHOP

at playing tournament golf. I emphasize the FUN aspect of a tournament, so please give it a try and see how you like it. For those that are looking for a group/people to start playing with regularly, we have many options to choose from. Please stop by the golf shop and the staff will be more than happy to introduce you to some new members in the hopes of finding a game or two, or three…

Many of you have noticed that the 2020 driving range fee has been charged to you this month. The range pass provides unlimited use of range balls while the range is open and our pass prices are STILL the best in town. You get a good bang for your

call ahead and let us know so we can find the best place to start you.

The 2020 Tournament Schedule is posted on our website underneath the Golf Course/Tournaments tab. Please take a look at the Tournament Schedule when you get a chance and plan accordingly for the tournaments you have interest playing in. We offer a variety of different events with the goal of having a little something for everyone. Tournaments are a great way to meet new people and have some fun along the way, so if you have not played in one of our events, try and make this the year you do. If you have never played in a tournament because you are nervous or afraid your game is not good enough, please do not let this hinder your decision. We have handicaps to make it fair for everyone competing and at one time or another; all of us were a beginner

The beginning of 2020 is off to a good start as we had a fair amount of play and relatively mild weather throughout January. My hope is that February brings us even nicer weather and we are able to get in as much golf as possible. February can also be quite steady with regular member and guest play, as our friends from the surrounding areas look to get out of the snow and enjoy a nice round of golf down in the valley. As we transition into our higher demand period, keep in mind that we are busiest between 9:00 and 12:30 on weekdays and between 9:00 and 11:00 on weekends; and with us being the host course for the golf teams of Clarkston HS, WSU Men & Women and LCSC Men & Women, this will keep us hopping in the afternoons. If you like to play during those times, even during the afternoon, it’s always a good idea to

buck considering a season range pass costs less than one small range bucket a week. The pricing of the passes are as follows; Single $195, Double $260 and Family (3 or more) $325 (tax not included). If you had a pass in 2019 and did not notify me that you do not want to renew, I’ve assumed that you wish to continue for 2020. Next month the golf shop will bill for the services of Cart Care & Club Care. Club Care is the storage, staging and cleaning of your golf clubs after each use for only $112 per year. Cart Care includes staging, cleaning and putting away your cart after each use. Additionally, we monitor the water level of the batteries on a regular basis and fill the cells as needed. We also clean corrosion off battery terminals and periodically give your cart a nice cleanse. You receive all of this for only $148

per year. Both services are designed to make your life easier and to let us handle the dirty work, so please consider signing up for these services if you haven’t already.

COURSE & GOLF CART VANDALISM

During the night/early morning of December 27th/28th, a group of 5 vandals proceeded to break into approximately 60 cart sheds by breaking off the hasps that keep the locks in place. They unfortunately did some serious damage to 9 golf carts, with one still missing. The practice green and other areas of the course were also damaged by the vandals with what seemed to be a malicious demolition derby using members’ golf carts. This was an act of opportunity as the carts that were damaged had the key in the ignition. My advice to all members that store a golf cart, please be sure to hide the cart key somewhere that can go unnoticed

(on the roof, under the seat, in the rain cover, on a shelf…), as they will not spend time looking for the key. Also be sure to store your clubs in the bag room or lockers, or take them home with you after each round. Unfortunately break-ins happen at a lot of golf courses, but with fewer options and opportunities we give them to steal or vandalize, the better. It would also be worthwhile looking into putting your stored personal belongings (cart, clubs, etc.) on your homeowners insurance. A lot of insurance companies offer to do so at a very minimal annual fee. NPTE has begun to add state-of-the-art surveillance cameras and are replacing/adding more lights to the surrounding areas, which will greatly help deter any future burglaries and vandalism. On a more positive note, all parties involved were identified and arrested thanks to the cameras we had in place!
