Kalinangang 2008, a success project of HFCC  By: Ma. Teresa Solis The Hyehwadong Filipino Catholic Community (HFCC) suc- cessfully organized the first Ginoo at Binibining Kalinangang 2008 (Mr. and Ms. Filipino Culture 2008). It was held last Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Tongsong Auditorium. Six ladies and 5 gentlemen competed in the said contest. This competition aims not only to show their beauty and physical appear- ance but also to showcase the Phil- ippine culture and share the true Filipino Christian Values. The program started with a Doxology followed by the Philip-  pine National Anthem sang by the Hyehwadong Choir. The candi- dates danced the Sinulog, a dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Sto. Nino, as their  production number. Fr. Alvin Parantar, MSP welcomed and thanked everyone who supported this HFCC project. The candidates paraded their Regional Traditional Costume and the Hanbok, a Korean National Dress. Each one of them showed their God given talents in singing, dancing and acting. Instead of the usual evening dress and tuxedo, they wore Barong Tagalog for men and Filipiniana Dress for the ladies. Fr. Sebastian Gabuya, OFM and Ana Lopez serenaded the candi- dates to ease their tension and for them to feel more confident in the  preliminary interview. Special awards were given to the contestants before announcing the Magic six. Minor awards in- clude Mr. and Ms. Photogenic, Close-up Smile, Darling of the Crowd, Mr. and Ms. Internet, Mr. and Ms. Onfino. The finalists were asked ques- tions by the  judges for the final interview, the last category that will determine the final winners. Candi- dates per- formed in front of five re- spected  jud ges . Among the judges were Mr. Mylo Fausto, the Cultural Officer of Philippine Embassy in Seoul (PE Seoul); Ms. Maricon Ebron, the Tourism Attache; Ms. Loreta Me- dina, a free lance artist; Ms. Cathy Garcia from The Korea Times; and the Chairman of the Board of Judges was the Honorable Ambas- sador Luis T. Cruz of PE Seoul. Finally, Israel Antonio of Baguio City and May Heducos of Bukid- non were awarded and crowned as Ginoo at Binibin- ing Kalinangang 2008 respectively. Mark Brazas and Jenilyn Danting were the First Runners up. Kishore Patrimonio and Sheryl de Villa were the Second Runners up of the said competition. Crowns, trophies, sashes, flowers and cash prizes were given to the winners. The masters of ceremonies were Dr. Emely Dicolen-Abagat, Edgar Balista, Bevy Tamargo and Hermie Garrobo. The Hyehwadong Choir and The Solitaire Band sang in the intermission number while the contestants prepared for each cate- gory. Some invited guests from Philippine Embassy and HFCC volunteers presented the awards. Sponsors in the said event were Onfino.com (Philippine airlines), Fr. Theophilus Choi, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), Overseas Workers Welfare Ad- ministration (OWWA), Super Gem, Philtrust and Vendors Association. Raffle prizes were drawn during the program.
