The Blessing of Fellowship
Apple dumpling days are some of the most wonderful days of the year at Christ
United Methodist Church. I love to open the church door and be greeted by the smell
of cinnamon, sugar and baking apples. I love the sound too, the buzz of conversation
and laughter as people work together to make the apple dumplings. The feelings of
friendship and love in the kitchen and fellowship hall are so strong that they can almost
be touched. On days when I have time to help out and then share in lunch, the taste of
the finished product is great, too.
Psalm 133 celebrates the blessing that comes when brothers and sisters are in
harmony and unity with one another. The psalmist writes,
How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard,
On the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon which falls on the mountains of Zion.
For there the LORD ordained his blessing, life forevermore. (Psalm 133, NRSV)
When the people of Christ Church gather together and work in harmony and with joy,
then God’s blessing is indeed present.
As those who trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord, we are God’s children, members of
God’s family. So, when we gather for work or fellowship, study or worship, it is a family
gathering. How beautiful when we share each other’s burdens, encourage each other,
pray for each other, and labor with one another in God’s service! I believe such
fellowship is a foretaste of the harmony, love and joy that we will know together when
God’s kingdom fully comes.
A final word of encouragement: as you have time and opportunity (or as you make
space in your life), seek out occasions to be with your brothers
and sisters in the church. Join in the joy of apple dumpling days,
or the fun of candy-making, or the whirlwind of Trunk ‘n Treat,
or serve in missions, or make Sunday school part of your weekly
schedule. As we do these things with our
brothers and sisters, we will experience
God’s presence in our midst, and we will
know God’s blessing.
Peace,
Pastor Jason
Page 2 The GOODNEWSletter
First and foremost, I want to say a giant thank you to everyone. The love and help and
support my family and I received moving here has been amazing. Thank you for all the help moving
in. My wife and I can't say it enough, Thank You!
Second, I want to say how amazing it is to be here and to get started on the kingdom work
here. We had our first youth time this past week. We had 10 youth show up, which is great. As we
move forward, I wanted to share a little information about the direction our youth ministry is moving
toward. Starting in October, the Youth Group will be called The Horizon.
Why The Horizon? Great question! Horizon is defined in the dictionary as the apparent junction
where the earth meets the sky. And we want to be a place that is the apparent junction of where
God and his people meet.
The vision statement for the Youth Ministry here at Christ UMC is:
To be the line along which God and His people connect. Helping students
in understanding their identity in Him and who God is, so that they may
travel the full distance of that line. And how in learning the Kingdom
purpose they have as disciples, helps them travel that line and
experience the fullness of the covenant God has with us.
I ask for your continued prayer and support as we move forward in
this exciting work.

TRUNK N TREAT EVENT COMING!
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20TH
4-6PM
This is the 5th year the UMW have planned this FREE event
for our community. Last year we had over 150 children
attend, praise God! This is a wonderful and fun outreach to
our community.
We are asking for donations of candy or monetary gifts to buy
candy (candy will be given to the trunk sponsors to
supplement what they hand out)
Donations of candy can be put in the church office. Monetary
donations can be designated on your offering envelope or
envelopes in the pews marked “Trunk n Treat.”
Want to sponsor a trunk? All you do is decorate your trunk
and hand out something to the children as they come by. In
the past everyone has had very clever ideas and it’s so fun to
see everyone get in the spirit of fall. As adults this is your
opportunity to dress up and have fun sharing the love of
Christ to the children and their families! Sign up today at the
sign up tables to sponsor a trunk. We would like 20 trunks!
All trunk ‘n treaters are encouraged to bring a non-perishable
food item to benefit Community Reach Food Bank which
serves the Red Lion, Eastern, and Dallastown areas.
Any questions, see a member of the UMW

It’s Time for
Operation Christmas Child!
Our church will be participating in this children’s Christ-

use you to demonstrate His love in packing 1, 2, or 3 box-
es for a child in poverty. Every child who gets a box also
attends a Bible study program to learn about Jesus.
∗ Start with an empty shoebox (cardboard or plastic)
∗ Choose items for a boy or girl (ages 2-4, 5-9, or 10-
14)
∗ Pack toys, clothing, school supplies, and hygiene
items
(Lists with specific items for ideas are available in the welcome area
of the church. No candy or toothpaste, please.)
∗ Pray that the child who received your gift will be
blessed and come to know Jesus as their Savior
∗ Drop off the filled shoebox with $9 (if you are able)
for overseas shipping at our church on November
3rd, 10th, or 17th
At the table for Operation Christmas child will be a box
for extra items. Place any items in there and I will pack a
box for you.
Shoeboxes and boy or girl labels will be provided on a
table in the welcome area. Let’s make this year the best
one ever for all the children around the world who still
need to hear about God’s love for them.
