While we want Halloween night to be afun and exciting time for the kids, we alsowant it to be a risk-free one. Please usethese precautions when allowing your childto trick-or-treat:

• Visit only the homes of people youknow well.

• Carry a flashlight, and walk out of thepaths of automobiles.

• If you must walk near traffic areas,use reflective tape on costumes.

• If possible, travel with a group.• Be sure to inspect all candy and treats

before allowing your child tohave them.

• Accept only prepackaged candy withno breaks or tears in the wrapping.

How ’Bout Them Apples?Fresh apples covered in caramel and

served on a stick are one of the signs thatfall has arrived. Thank Dan Walker for theconfection. In the 1950s, the Kraft Foodssalesman came up with a way to use thecompany’s excess supply of caramelcandies. Today, the sticky treats are oftenmade with additional toppings, such asnuts, chocolate, sprinkles and candy bits.
