Dear Christian Friends:

I am happy to be writing to you from right here in the United States, itis inceed hard to realize that^j,ye..,raonths. of-my furlough have already elapsedand it Is again time to start planning my return i.o-early 78. / -v.

These five months have been very busy ones for me and have seemed to reallyfly past. After my initial weekend visit here in Napa, I flew on to Indianawhere I spent months visiting relatives and reporting to the Churches in thatarea.

May 9th saw me leaving Indiana for the long road trip to California. EnrouteI was able to visit my niece in St. Louis, many of my old friends in the Joplinarea and spent a night in Commerce, Oklahoma, with my good friends, Mr. & Mrs.Charles Hicks. After a long but very beautiful trip through Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada 1 arrived safely in Napa Sunday May 15th.

After a day of rest, I reported to the church office on Tuesday. I wasassigned the duties of learning the office routine and operation of all machinesin order to be able to replace the other secretaries when they needed to be away. This has been fun, interesting, and sometimes frustrating. But I believe I haveconquered and proven the old maxim wrong: "An old dog can learn new tricks.

I have also been working extensively in the Sunday School making myself knownto the many new members of Napa First Christian and renewing old acquaintances. The church is sponsoring three yourvg summer interns and I am in supervisionover the young lady, helping her in being camp registrar and many youth activitiesof the Church.

Of course I have been very anxious over the news from Rhodesia and concernedabout my returning there. So it was with great delight that I visited with Mr. &Mrs. Bill Harrison in June. They had just recently (June 1) returned to theStates. They, along with a recent letter from Dr. Frasure, assured me that 1 couldreturn to Rhodesia. The Lord willing, I do plan to return in late January orearly February, 1978.

I will remain in Napa unti l around the 10th of November, then make my wayEast to Indiana visiting some churches and friends enroute. I will be availablefor speaking engagements in Indiana throughout December and part of January '78.If you would like to have me visit your area at that time, please contact me inthe near future so I may put you on my calendar. /

I am very sorry to report that Mf, £ Mrs. Anderson are resigning as my forwarding agents. We have been in prayer that God would lead us to someone toreplace them. We do have two couples considering this very important positionand hope to be able to report soon that they have accepted. In the meantime allcorrespondence can still be directed to 1521 Menlo Ave., Napa, Calif. 9^558.

Some have been asking about the allocation of funds while I am on furlough.May I take this opportunity to expT^TrTr^r stTTl receive the Living Link each month aas my personal support. The rest of the contributions which come in are consideredService Link and are deposited in the bank where they are building up toward myfurlough travel funds and will be used toward my return to the field. Any amountover and above my travel funds will be appl ied toward the purchase of anothervehicle.when I return' to Rhodesia. Some have expressed the concern that my work

"ind I were not getting the benefit of funds being received during furlough. Let me^assure you that I certainly am receiving those benefits.

Please continue to pray that the doors will remain open for my return toRhodesia.

Lovingly in Christ, Miss Judy

Dear Christian Friends:

I want to take this opportunity, at this Hol iday Season, to thank youall sincerely for your wonderful prayer, financial and friendly support duringthe year of 1977. It seems impossible that a whole year has gone by soquickly.

In the past ten months I have spent time visiting my family and friends, and sharing our work with churches through lectures, films and song. Thegreater part of my time was spent in working and getting re-acquainted with my"LiVIng L ink" Congregation In Napa, California.

These months have also been fil led with anxiety for the Rhodesiansituation. Since November, 1977, all Missionaries holding temporary workpermits who are presently out of the country will be denied admittance, "inthe first instance". Since I hold a temporary work permit, this new lawcould prohibit my return to Rhodesia.

Fortunately the law leaves a loop-hole with the words "in the firstinstance". This allows us the option of appealing through the Magistrate'sCourt for a re-entry permit, and we are following this procedure at thistime.

When my application is refused by the Immigration Officials of Rhodesia, according to law, then Mr. Chuck McDaniels, Central Africa Mission Chairmanin Rhodesia, will appeal for me, and f am optimistic about the results.

At this time, the Lord's Will is not completely clear, but I ask you toplease be In prayer that His Will be carried out in Rhodesia, as well as inmy l ife. In the meantime, I will continue with my plans to return toRhodes i a.

Now I want to take this time to wTsh" each and everyone of you a veryBlessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Luke 2:11 tells us "For today In theCity of David, there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."Let us, together, hold up our fel low Christians in Rhodesia to Jesus, ourBlessed Savior.

I have asked my new forwarding agents to also send their greetings toyou, as they are my partners in Christ in the Work in Rhodesia.

GOD BLESS YOU, ONE AND ALL,

MISS JUDY
