Hebrews 4: 12 reminds us, "The Word of God is alive and

active." The last 3 weeks we have seen the Spirit of Godmoving among our church as several have made professions

of faith, and been baptized. I believe the reason behind this ispretty simple - the Word of God is being preached, studied,

and shared. Every Sunday as we gather for worship the Wordof God is preached through worship and message. Every Sun-day as we gather in Sunday morning Bible study groups theWord of God is taught and discussed among our groups.

Every week we have folks out sharing the Word of God withneighbors, co-workers, and friends and those folks are re-

sponding to the hope of Jesus. This movement of God is theresult of the Word of God penetrating the heafts of God'speople, and then His people going out to share this Wordwith a lost World. If you have not been in rvorship lately.why not start back this week? Has it been a rvhile since 1,ouhave been to Sunday morning Bible studl? Malbe 1ou don'thave a class that you belong to: if that's the case this is theperfect time to plug into a class as u'e studl.the Srord of Godthrough the Gospel Project. Ma1.be rou *ould like to be a

part of our outreach through GRO\I' and need a team. Thisweek is the perfect time to contact the church office aboutbeing a part of a team.

As we have begun this new church year I am very excited tosee what God is doing in the many ministries of our church.

Our church family has something for all of our members and

I encourage you to find a place to plug in and share.

Also over the next few months our Sanctuarl *.ill continue toget a makeover with seating, carpet. and a neu balcony: all ofthis is for the purpose of achieving our church mission state-

ment of Bringing them in, so we can Build them up. and

Send them out. Please be praying for our church. and church

leadership as we will be presenting to you information fromour long range team and sub-teams about our future and spe-

cifically our future location.

It's a great time to be a part of the Lord's family at

First Baptist!

See you Sunday,

Bro. Stacy

Dear Church Family.

Christmas In His Presence...that is the title of our Christmas

musical for this year. Our Celebration Choir has started

making preparation for this worship experience. There are

many good times to consider joining the choir-and now isone of them! We practice on Wednesdays at 7pm. Childcare

is available. and if you teach AWANA you can usually

arrange your class schedule in such a way that you can be

at choir practice. We rvould love for YOU to be a part ofthis ministry.

I want to thank our ),outh praise band for leading us in wor-ship on Sunda1,. September 20. Teaching our students to be

worshippers and to lead in worship is a very important aspect

of rvhat u,e do at church. I am so thankfulthat we have stu-

dents u'ho are eager to serve in this way. Our students lead in

uorship each S'ednesday night in the youth room. and par-

ticipate in leading rvorship each Sunday morning as well. Iam srateful that ue are in a church that is rvillingto invest inthe lires olroun_s people.

On Sundal niehts. as a part of Sundal Night Live. Jeannie

\\'hitener and other rolunteers lead our Children's Choir. We

are plannin_e a Sundal in November for our children to not

only lead in worship through music, but also to participate invarious other aspects of the service. The children will also

be doing some creative rrorship activities such as puppets,

drama. sign language. etc. Shannon is doing a fantastic job

coordinating our children's ministry. and it is exciting to see

our church sro* in this area.

I am looking tbr some people riho plal, instruments. From

time to time ue have used a small orchestra in our Sunday

morning services. It would be uonderfulto do this on a more

regular basis. Several of those uho have played in this group

rvho were high school students are now away at college.

And. some who were college students have moved on to thenext phase of their education or career. So, we need to call insome more troops. If you play a band instrument and wouldbe rvilling to join us in leading worship, please let me

know,-l would love to get you plugged in!

There is a place for everyone to serve here at First Baptist

Church. I have mentioned worship opportunities for children,

youth, and adults-if God has called you to serve, you are

needed! Many people are called to serve in the area of music;

and, many are not. But, we are ALL called to serve some-

where. I encourage you to seek God's will as to where He

would have you to serve in our church, and join God in the

work He is doing!

P.S. Bring a friend!

YOUTHAsx^vs,!?ooroR

Where did September go? Wait a minute! What happened?!

Well, I've jumped into the deep end, and I have spent the lastfour weeks getting to know the kids slowly. but everything elsehas been high speed! I have thoroughly enjoyed attending LyonCollege BCM on Wednesday nights, rvatching Dawn Reed inaction and helping out with the games at times. It is so inspiringto see college students attend a worship service by choice and towatch them worship with open heafts and expectant minds. Theyare so busy but still choose to make growing in the Lord a prior-ity. It is also great fun to see Joella at work with her team atUACCB providing a lunch meal on Thursdays. as rvell as a devo-tional and resources to help commuter students plug in. All Iknow is Judy Wolfe brought in a mess of BBQ sandwiches, andmost were gone. so great attendance there!

On Wednesday nights, we have seen an average of about 40 kidsat junior/senior high youth group. I'm taking some time to see

what the atmosphere is and to get the teens' input on forming ournew group together. We are creeping through the beginning ofRomans 6 right now. with each lesson focusing on one aspect ofwhat one does after baptism. What does the old self crucifiedand the new life in Christ really look like on a daily basis? Isthere anv difference betlveen an avid churchgoer and a personwho is surrendered and living with Christ in the center? Thechurch's youth are extremely busy (as is expected in today'sworld), but many have made it a goal to seek growth in theirfaith, to learn to live dependently on Christ. They can alwaysuse your prayers.

t

I finally moved to Batesville a few days ago and joined thechurch, so here I am! We may be looking for more youth leadersor occasional help in very specific areas soon, but for now, Iwould ask for your prayers over our youth and young adult pro-grams, and that we would always listen to what the Lord wouldhave us do. Have a wonderful. fall-colored October!

The Tribe of Levi

The ministry of church administration has roots in the OldTestament. Modern administrators trace their heritage to theTribe of Levi, the tribe set aside by the LORD to ministerin the tabernacle. In the Old Testament, all priests wereLevites but not all Levites were priests. A majority ofLevites were charged with administrative duties related tosacrifices, worship, and care of the tabernacle. Leviticalduties are recorded in the Book of Numbers, most specifi-cally in chapter 18. The duties included:

Ministering to the LORDMinistering to the priests

Ministering to the people

Maintaining the sanctuary

Taking charge of the tithes and offerings (accounting andspending)

Doing the service of sanctuary before. during. and afterworship

Purifying the holy things

Regulating weights and measures

Teaching the people

Blessin-e the people

Guarding the temple

Times have changed and a few Levitical duties are noIonger practiced--but most duties remain. I am grateful forthe opportunity to serve First Baptist Church in the spirit ofthe Levites, and to work with several teams and team mem-bers who carry out Levitical duties.

In your service,

Gene

FBC would like ordain and license Gene oJ"a.qTulberg to the Gospel Ministry. Also thereis scheduled an Ordination Service on October 1 Iat 6PM in the Sanctuary.
