Benediction Reception in the Oratory Hall

Throughout this year, many civic as well as Cath-olic events have been organized in St. Louis to highlight the history, development, and accom-plishments of our great city. Please join us as the Oratory marks this special anniversary year with the Church’s joyful and solemn liturgy.

GAUDETTE GALA 2014 Gaudete Gala 2014 will be glorious, elegant, and uplifting – a sublime moment of joy during Ad-vent. This year the Gala will take place on Sunday evening, December 14th, at the Sheldon (3648 Washington Blvd, Saint Louis), and will once again feature the Oratory’s choirs under the direc-tion of Mr. Nick Botkins.

Tickets for the Gala Reception and the Concert will go on sale November 5th.

ROSARIES FOR THE MISSIONS As in years past, our family physician is taking a medical mission to El Salvador. He and his col-leagues will see hundreds of patients and they will take any donated rosaries to give to the patients they serve. During the month of October, if you have any extra rosaries to donate, please place them in the indicated baskets in the vesti-bules. We will have them blessed and deliver them to our doctor before he leaves at the end of October. Thank you! The Pekny Family

40 DAYS FOR LIFE This fall, from Sept 24th to Nov 2nd, St. Louis will be uniting with other cities across North America and around the world for a massive co-ordinated pro-life mobilization – the 40 Days for Life prayer and fasting campaign. People of faith are praying that, with God’s grace, this effort will help bring an end to the tragedy of abortion. The most visible component of this campaign is to maintain a Peaceful, Prayerful vigil in front of an abortion facility. The St. Louis Vigil location will be at Planned Parenthood, 4251 Forest Park Ave. 63108.

St. Francis de Sales Oratory has pledged to participate in the Prayer Vigil from 7am to

7pm on Friday Oct 17th.

At least two prayer volunteers are needed for each hour. Please check your calendars to see how you can help us fulfill this commitment. Sign-Up is possible by phone, email or during Sunday coffee hours from now until Oct 20th. Call or Email David Benjamin - (314) 706-2525, [email protected] or Patricia Cornell (314) 346-5495 / [email protected] to sign-up or if you have any questions. You can also learn more ways to help by visiting www.coalitionforlifestl.com

Your help in this effort is very much appreciated!

WELCOME VISITORS LET US TREAT YOU TO A CUP OF COFFEE

The clergy, staff, and faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory are always pleased when new visi-tors come to this beautiful church to join us in the celebration of Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form. We have a coffee hour after each of our Sunday Masses. Please join us and the coffee and donut are on us—just let the cashier know you are a first-time visitor.

This is also a reminder to all our Oratory faithful that the Sunday coffee hour is a good time to re-new old friendships and make new ones.

KIRCHWEIHFEST SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23

This year we will see again our Kirchweihfest, the celebration of the consecration of our magnificent church on November 26, 1908. According to the tradition here at the Oratory we will offer a festive lunch with German (Bavarian) food, catered by Two Mikes Catering, after the 10:00 AM Mass on November 23, 2014, in the church hall.

This year’s Kirchweihfest will again include a “Chocolate Cake Contest”. If you want to par-ticipate in this important culinary event, please register at the rectory before November 15, 2014, 12 Noon. Only chocolate cakes which were produced entirely “from scratch” (no cake mixes!) will enter the finals. “Organic in-gredients” and “gluten-free” cakes will gain special points.

The Kirchweihfest will include several features of the Summer at the Oratory event as well as the Seminary Society Breakfast. It will be an occasion for us to celebrate the many blessings God has bestowed on this wonderful Oratory community, especially the generosity and the fruitful hard work of its members, for which we are most grateful.

Please mark your calendars!

Please contact the rectory at (314) 771-3100 if you wish to help with set-up, clean-up or serv-ing during the Kirchweihfest. Thank you very much.

TO ALL OUR GUESTS… Canon Wiener and the faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory welcome you, and hope that your time in the “Cathedral of South St. Louis” may be an opportunity to share in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Faith.

Please enjoy the beauty of this building dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, co-patron of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST.

According to liturgical tradition, and the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, Holy Communion is received kneeling and on the tongue. All visitors who are not of the Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer, but are requested not to receive Holy Communion. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion.

We pray for the full visible unity among all Christians.

To receive more information about the Oratory or if you desire to become a member of the Catholic Church, contact the rectory. St. Francis de Sales Oratory is an Oratory of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. All contributions to the Oratory are sincerely appreciated and are tax deductible.
