The exhibit runs September 6 through October 7 and opens with an artist reception on September 8 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in conjunction with the monthly Gallery Crawl.

JEFF LITTLE TRIO IN CONCERTGet ready for a night of great music when Jeff Little, Steve Lewis and Josh Scott take the stage of the Ashe Civic Center on Friday evening, November 3. Concert time is 7:30 pm.

Jeff, known as the Piano Man of the Blue Ridge, is a re-markable musician, steeped in the tradition of his native Blue Ridge. Yet he is also a virtuosic and eclectic innova-tor and entertainer. Little’s involvement with music dates to his formative years in Boone where his father owned a music shop. There he heard a variety of styles and in-struments, and Jeff began playing at the age of five. In a region known for the aesthetics of old-time country, a call for speed, precision and clarity as well as an adherence to the traditional repertoire, Jeff Little’s musical ability is unrivaled. His fingers seem to fly over the keyboard, delighting audiences wherever he goes.

Adding to the ensemble are equally impressive two-time national banjo champion, Steve Lewis, and Josh Scott on bass. And as usual a few other musical friends will probably join Jeff on stage! Reserved seating tickets are avail-able in advance at the Ashe Arts Center ($16 for adults, $5 for students). Credit cards are accepted. For tickets or more information, Call the Arts Council at 336.846-2787.

BOARDWALKDo you love the sound of close harmony? Do you like that unique barbershop sound? Do you enjoy a fast-paced, high energy, fun concert with lot of great music? If so, you won’t want to miss Boardwalk Quartet coming to the Ashe Arts Center at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 11.

Boardwalk is a barbershop quartet from Atlanta, GA made up of 4 close friends. They are 2nd generation “barbershop-pers” with 3 of the 4 dads singing together at one point or another. One of the reasons that Boardwalk formed was to re-create some of the songs that combined great barbershop

harmony with folk music and some instrumentation. Quartet members include Tenor - Brad Hine, Lead - Mark Schlinkert, Baritone - David Calland, Bass - Jared “Pookie” Carlson.

Tickets for the concert are $16 for adults and $5 for students. Call 336.846-2787 soon to reserve your seat! You’ll leave the Arts Center humming…

TREE FEST Christmas is coming, and the Ashe Arts Center will be decked out in its finery again this year! Tree Fest celebrates the holiday season with seven beautifully decorated trees, an exhibit of miniature artwork, and Christmas Marketplace. Organizations and artists contributing to the exhibit represent a cross-section of community involvement with the arts. Tree Fest opens November 20 and may be viewed Monday through Saturday throughout the holiday season. The Arts Council’s popular, handcrafted ornament tree, My Fa-vorite Things, will include new ornaments for your seasonal collection in clay, paper, fibers, wood, and stained glass. Look for details of Tree Fest in the December issue of ARTS/DATES.

NORTH CAROLINA ARTS COUNCIL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS!

For 50 years, the North Carolina Arts Council has worked to achieve the conviction upon which it was founded: arts for all citizens.

March 2017 marked the kick-off of the yearlong statewide 50th Anniversary Celebration. Since its beginning in 1967, the impact on local communities and

especially the Ashe County Arts Council has been significant.

We salute you! We thank you! We celebrate with you!Happy Anniversary to the North Carolina Arts Council!

IT’S FUND DRIVE TIME FOR THE ARTS! September is always a banner month for the Arts Council, as we announce the new programming season and celebrate our 39th year as an organization serving the arts needs of Ashe County. We’ll kick off our annual fund drive in September to raise funds for the arts.

As we begin another year of community concerts at the Ashe Civic Center and Ashe Arts Center, gallery exhibits, school arts assembly programs, the Junior Appalachian Musicians Project (JAM), downtown murals, the Gallery Crawl, Spring Fest, On The Same Page Literary Festival, the Barn Quilt Project, the Fiddlers Convention, and the Studio Tours we realize that you who have shared in the Arts Council’s vision all these years play a dual role in its success. You provide both intangible gifts of time, energy and enthusiasm and the financial support we need to continue our mission of promoting the arts in all forms in Ashe County.

Information about the 2017-2018 Fund Drive and schedules for the year will be in the mail soon. The Arts Council expresses its gratitude for the past contributions and thanks you in advance for your future support. Contributions may be mailed to 303 School Avenue, West Jefferson, NC 28694, or online donations are accepted at www.ashecountyarts.org.
