Students Awards Ceremony

Recipients of Awards in School of Business by category include:

• Dean’s List for students with perfect semester GPA of 4.00 for Spring 2018 in School of Business are : Ms. Lina Morad, Ms. Tasnim Khojema, Ms. Mahsa Rahimi and Ms. Zainab Jabla.

• ACK Special Academic Awards for Outstanding Student Projects for Spring 2018. There is only one award for each academic program to recognize the top students for a nominated academic project during the semester in School of Business, these students are: Ms. Hanaa AlHouli (Management) and Ms. Rahma Mohammed. (Marketing).

Each semester, the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK) recognizes outstanding students performances inside and outside the classroom through various awards.

Recipients of the Awards were invited, with their family members, to a special presentation event in ACK Auditorium on 3rd October, 2018. This was attended by the ACK President, Professor Isam Zabalawi, Dr. Arthur King, Acting Dean – School of Business, and other members of the college executives.

Professor Zabalawi congratulated the students on their success and encouraged them to continue striving for future awards. He also thanked the parents for their support and attendance.

Business Talk– " All Hail the Queen! A Story about Strategy and her Rise to the Throne"

The Business Talk "All Hail the Queen! Story about Strategy and her Rise to the Throne" took place on 10th October, 2018. Dr. Manal Al Hasawi, was the guest speaker of this great talk, she is the founder and managing partner of Think Tank Strategy & Development Consulting and Chairman of Kuwait Society for Strategic Planning. Dr. Manal delivered a very inspirational talk.

Through the talk, Dr. Manal took the students on a journey through history to learn where her strategy got her the name as “queen of management sciences”. She walked the students through the different ways we can introduce strategy in organizations and how to benefit from all the wonderful things strategy brings to the table! She also explained what it means to design, implement and measure Strategy in organizations.

Student and staff feedback on the talk was excellent.

Recruitment Coaching Program for HRM Students

On 14th October, 2018, the Human Resources Management students in Dr. Hussain Alhajji’s class welcomed a guest speaker Mr. Talal Beidas, a Senior HR Specialist – Recruitment from Ooredoo Company in Kuwait. He presented an interesting topic about “Recruitment Coaching Program”.

This program was designed to enable students to learn more about the recruitment process in the real world as well as enhancing their knowledge on writing and promoting CV and how to succeed in job interview.

Career Planning Workshop

Four workshops were organized by Ms. Nadeen Abbas and Ms. Marcelle de La Roche and were delivered to Diploma Change Management students on Strategic Planning by members of Kuwait Society for Strategic Planning. Ms. Rehab Al Tuwairi, the Vice President of Kuwait Society for Strategic Planning, delivered the 1st workshop on 15th October, 2018 about the Importance of Career Planning.

She delivered a very inspirational and practical workshop to students on how to plan for their careers. The students highly benefited from the workshop and their feedback was excellent.

Branding Yourself/Developing Professional Identity Workshop

On 22nd October, 2018, Mr. Khaled Al-Zanki delivered the 2nd interesting workshop for the Change Management class students with Ms. Nadeen Abbas on “Branding Yourself/Developing Professional Identity”. This workshop helps students in understanding and developing a unique professional identity that will help them in their future careers.

Job Shadow - Agility

On 23rd October, 2018, the Semester 4 Diploma students from the Innovation and Entrepreneurship unit taught by Dr. Wael Dabboussi took part in the “Innovation Camp”, a one-day workshop organized by Injaz and hosted by Agility.

The workshop is an intensive learning experience that challenged the students to find innovative solutions to a real business challenge using creativity, analysis and teamwork.

The students had the opportunity to solve the challenge and propose solutions in the form of a business plan.

Job Shadow - Burgan BankIn collaboration

The Foreign Investment Department provided valuable information about how Burgan Bank communicates and builds relationships with banks in other countries to ensure quick, safe and problem–free transactions for their clients. The Head of Corporate Banking explained how Burgan Bank segments and attracts corporate customers and how their relationship managers ensure that customers’ business needs are catered to.

He mentioned that the Bank is like a family and all departments work together to ensure the satisfaction and enhanced service for their customers.

In collaboration with Injaz, semester three and four Business students attended a job shadow at Burgan Bank on 22nd October, 2018. Students were greeted by the Training and Development Manager who explained the history of banking and Burgan Bank’s growth since inception in 1977. The International office liaison staff member then explained how the bank had grown internationally (subsidiaries in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon and Iraq).

Students asked questions related to the international growth strategy and decision making. The Customer Care Centre then presented their strategy for ensuring all Burgan Bank customers are kept satisfied and shared some of the technology they use to measure customer satisfaction and transaction times.

Lastly, a representative from Marketing explained to students the marketing done in Retail Banking, how the bank positions itself and how they decide which communication method to use. Representatives from Burgan Bank and Injaz were very impressed with the caliber of our students, the way they interacted and their interest in the bank.

Burgan Bank took down the contact details of those students who interacted and asked questions, as they would like to contact them for possible employment opportunities once they graduate. Students thoroughly enjoyed the job shadow, with one student saying that he would like to pursue a career in banking because he saw how interesting it was and how professional and committed the staff were. Another student said her entire perception of Burgan Bank had changed and that she felt it was a professional and trustworthy bank.

The three day Career Planning Outreach ‘Why Study Campaign’ took place on 28th, 29th and 30th October, 2018 in which School of Business faculty members answered questions and explained topics related to career planning in Management, Marketing and HR majors. This campaign is very important as it is covers one of our school KPIs.

Funding for Entrepreneur Business Workshop

A 3rd brilliant talk was presented on 29th October, 2018 by Mr. Abdullah Al-Khanji, the Owner of Mini Delights, to students in Ms. Nadeen Abbas Change Management class. Students feedback was great. Students completed an amazing series of four workshops that were arranged by Dr. Manal Al-Hasawi. Many thanks Ms. Marcelle de La Roche for connecting us with such prominent and inspiring figures from the industry. This lecture was so inspiring and serves ACK’s goal of bridging theory with practice. The last 4th workshop for Change Management class students will took place in November 2018.

Job Shadow – KAMCO/Global

Our students from School of Business visited Global Investment House in Kuwait City as part of their job shadow under the supervision of Economics instructors Ms. Rupali Bhagat and Ms. Rola Mourdaa on 30th October, 2018 which was hosted by KAMCO and organized by INJAZ. Global is officially a part of KAMCO Investment Company as KAMCO acquired majority of stakes in Global recently. This opportunity was provided by INJAZ Kuwait for business students.

As part of the job shadow, students received brief lectures on important topics of Economics and Finance from different department heads from KAMCO and Global. These lectures were insightful and the students had a chance to ask questions at the end of each lecture.

The students and instructors were given certificates of participation.It was a great student learning experience. As they had a chance to talk to people from the industry. Our students mentioned that they would like School of Business to plan more job shadows as it allows them to explore specific career and gain a real picture of jobs performed. One of our students Ms. Munirah Bader Ahmad from semester two studying Economics mentioned that it was a great opportunity given by ACK & INJAZ as she received a chance to see how some economic concepts work and she appreciated the opportunity to ask questions.
