Natural Stone can add a luxurious feel to any bathroom space. Throughout history this timeless bathroom staple has adorned the most luxurious palaces and homes the world over. This timeless look does come with a hefty price tag though! Natural stone flooring can be very expensive with tiles ranging from $10 a sq. ft to as much as $100 sq. ft depending on color, quality and texture. Costs can also accumulate with stone flooring as staining, scratching and damage can occur and with it comes the high cost of repair. Installation can be done yourself but be extremely careful when cutting and matching tiles as mistakes can be costly. Used properyl in your home, natural stone flooring can add elegance and prestige to your bathroom space.

LimestoneThis natural stone is a porous material relatively soft which can stain very easily. Limestone is generally found in cream colors and soft yellows but is also found in shades of gray, black and brown as well. Although limestone can vary with respect to hardness this product is definitely not recommendedfor bathrooms and should not be used in high traffic areas as damage there is most likely to occur. Limestone is very smooth and will be dangerous when wet. Inquire about slip resistance.

MarbleAs a sexy option for your bathroom flooring, nothing quite says luxurious like marble in the bathroom. Marble is essentially limestone that has been exposed to great-er heat until the material re-crystallizes. This process makes marble much harder wearing than limestone. As a floor this material requires a sealing especially when used in the bathroom. Again this natural stone will stain and does so fairly easily. Marble stone is available in a wide variety of color and veining. Be ware that some stones have more veining than others. When installing these tiles it can be very difficult finding the perfect match. Sometimes it is easier to choose the tiles with the most veins. Marble is generally very smooth and can be very dangerous when wet. If you do choose to make marble your bathroom floor be sure to inquire about slip resistance.

SlateSlate as flooring for your bathroom can be a glamour-ous and unique option for your new space. Slate is a fine-grained rock which reveals a textured and rustic appearance. This material in non-porous making it a better choice in bathrooms as slate is much more resistant to staining. Slate is available in a great variety of hues generally in darker colors such as shades of black and gray, maroons, rusts and greens. Slate is an extremely durable flooring material and is generally

more slip resistant.

GraniteMuch like Marble, Granite is a very sexy and luxurious option for your home. Quarried from deep within the earth, this porous volcanic rock is indeed a beautiful bathroom flooring option. Extremely hardwearing this surface is however not impervious to staining. Granite share similarities with marble in that iti is difficult to match pieces due to veining and color changes in the stone. Try and find like minded tiles when doing your research. You can try and mismatch and create a very unique effect.

TravertineOne natural stone flooring option that can bring a uniqueness to your bathroom is Travertine Stone. This natural stone generally found in Italy is made from calcium carbonate. This product is available in several colors and can have a pitted appearance. The pitting is a natural process and some contractors will choose to fill these pits where others prefer to leave them empty resulting in a much rougher appearance. Travertine flooring is very durable standing up to most cleaning products and is resistant to acids and bases. There’s no denying that stone does rock! When choosing natural stone for your bathroom flooring you really must do a needs assessment. First of all it is not cheap and most stone tiles require much maintenance. If your bathroom will indeed be a high traffic area exposed to children and pets, unless money is no object, natural stone may not be your best choice. Ideally, our homes should be a place where we can relax and leave the stress of work behind. However, nowadays more and more employees are breaking the chains of the corporate world in order to pursue careers that give them a sense of self-worth and allow them to spend more time with their families. Traffic jams coupled with the high cost of gasoline are also reasons why working from home is becoming more attractive. Technological advances are also making this transition more feasible for employers. With that said, incorporating a well-organized home office is an important part of this equation.

When selecting a room in your home for a home office, consider a room that will give you complete privacy during your business hours. Distractions may interfere with your work schedule, so it’s important to ensure you have good self-discipline when it comes to work ethics. Rugs and window coverings can help to reduce unwanted noise within the room. Choosing a room with a large window can make your workday more pleasant by allowing exposure to natural daylight. Sunlight has been proven to increase brain activity and efficiency - use it to your advantage. General lighting conditions also play an important role in any home office, it should be incorporated evenly throughout the room to avoid heavy shadows and glare.

Arrange your office so that it will prepare you for challenges. If you’re surrounded by disorganization and chaos, it hinders your creativity and productivity. Creating a comfortable and clutter-free environment can help to pave the way to success in all aspects of your life.

The key to designing a successful home office is to also incorporate elements that reflect the décor around the rest of your home. Begin with the main focus of the room, which would be your desk. You want it to be attractive to look at while having ample surface space to work on. It is best not to situate your desk with your back to the door. Accompany it with a comfortable chair that

fits your style. Add accessories such as lamps that are not only functional, but serve as decorative elements as well. Desk accessories in a home office are the details that enhance the appearance and keep you organized.

Another challenge in setting up an office is maximizing the storage space. Determine what your storage requirements are and incorpo-

rate them into your design. Look for furnishings that serve dual functions like an armoire that can store files and media equipment at the same time. Stackable wire or wicker file baskets are good alternatives to boring, metal file cabinets. Think vertically by

adding shelving, cabinets and bookcases over your work area to increase space and accessibility for frequently used items. If you have a bookcase that’s visible in the room, take advantage of the open shelves by displaying more than books. Add photo frames, decorative storage boxes, and collectibles from your travels. Even a simple thing as stacking some of the books horizontally, and others vertically, will help make it more interesting to the eye.

The ultimate goal is to make your home office an enjoyable space onto its own. Paint the walls with soothing colors; create a gallery effect by showcasing framed family photos on display ledges or on easels for a unique look. If you have a pet, dedicate a small area for them to be comfortable. Surround yourself with the things you love and which make you feel good - it will prevent you from feeling isolated.

When planning and decorating your home office have fun and enjoy the pro-cess. And remember, there are no corporate rules to follow – you’re the boss!

Fall is for Planting

AnnualsAs the weather turns cooler, cool-season flowers start to come on strong. Replace spent summer

annuals with traditional fall plants such as pansies and ornamental cabbage and kale. Other annuals

that will continue going even after a light frost include snapdragons (I've even had these survive the winter in my yard to bloom the following spring), petunias, and

alyssum.

Pansies are normally grown as annuals, but they're really biennials

or perennials. Plants that survive should be in good bloom by mid-May and continue into

mid-summer. Pansies are becoming more popular, and transplants

are now available in some garden centers

When guests step into your home

a huge bouquet of fresh flowers

placed atop a large, round, marble-

sort of ‘ah’ factor at the entrance to

your home.

Maybe you want a table in the hall

golf with a corner table with a base

of three intertwined clubs. Or add

Victorian charm to any room with

an ornately detailed serving cart

perfect for delivering tea or snacks

to your guests. Brighten your living

room with a bright red leather and

rattan chest for some Asian allure.

No matter what your style is you are

sure to find accent tables that fit it.

minimalist table consisting of four

levels supported by one pole may

be what you are looking for. Or if

you want to show off a few

is that they fit anywhere, in any

Not only is Danielle a licensed Realtor™ within the province of Saskatchewan and working with her mother as part of a team, Danielle is a qualified mortgage broker.

Both Janine and Danielle work for Crawford Realty, but mom (Janine) is also a sales agent for Crawford homes and has started her own development company Windsor Crossing Developments. To her clients this means that Janine and Danielle have access to both the new and used housing markets regardless of the style of home her clients may be looking for.

Danielle as a mortgage broker has access to all financial institutions that offer mortgages. According to her, there is a mortgage out there that has the exact terms that each client may want. It is Danielle’s job to find out what eachclient needs out of a mortgage and then find the best mortgage for that client.

This is just the tip of the iceberg though. Danielle also has to be able to explain the mortgage and all its intricacies to each client in an understandable manner. Both Danielle and her mother, Janine do their very best to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Both agents know that buying a house is one of the most stressful things you can do. Buying a house in a strange city adds to that stress. Clients need to rely on Team Wilson to not only help pick the right house in the right area, but to do all the little time consuming things that can lead to frustration and a potential dislike of the new city.

Once the Wilsons have found you the house of your dreams and helped you to successfully negotiate the price and other details that go into getting an accepted offer, it is up to the Wilsons to make your life as stress and worry free as possible. The list of people that will be lined up to do the worrying for you is truly impressive.

You will already have met the home inspector who not only told you about the current condition of the home you want to by, but provided a work sheet of the repairs that you can expect to do over the next five years or so. After that you will meet a lawyer who will handle the mortgage that Danielle set up for you as well as other legal details in the transfer of the property title to you. If there are any repairs to be done then out comes the list of trades people who the Wilson know they can rely on.

Before you move in, the Wilsons also ensure that you know as much about the city and neighborhood as possible. All-Home Services by Home Life, which Crawford Realty is part of, provides each client with an information package geared to individual needs

The goal of the “One Call” Team is to make sure that each client, regardless of whether they are buying or selling has a stress free experience. The Wilsons know that by taking care of everything they can, they save their clients time, money and angst. Each of those commodities carries a huge responsibility with it and the Wilsons are proud to be able to shoulder these responsibilities and help their clients become as proud of Regina as they are.

Wilson is not afraid to tell everyone that success in real estate is not a part time job. It is hard work, goal setting and remembering that she is selling homes not houses. The human element of treating every client as if they were her mother, father, brother sister or best friend is a major key to her success. The fact that more than half of her business now comes from repeat customers and personal referrals is proof of that.

(NC)—Good news for those who don’t like to exercise -- you don’t necessarily have to exert yourself to reap the benefits of physical activity. Did you know that 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week is all it takes to reduce the risk of many health problems? Physical activity can even help relieve joint pain.

Here are four tips from The Arthritis Society to help you squeeze that half-hour of physical activity into your day -- and make the minutes fly by at the same time.

Take 10 (or 15). If you don’t have a solid half-hour block of time, split your physical activity into shorter sessions throughout the day -- say, a 15 minute walk and 15 minutes of gardening.

Build it in. Figure out ways to build some extra steps into everyday chores. Walk

to the corner to buy milk, park the car at the back of the mall parking lot or spend your lunch break running errands on foot.

Make it social. Make an exercise date with a friend: Attend a Tai Chi class or take a short walk together.

Add some distraction. Take the ‘work’ out of working out by focusing your mind on something you enjoy. Put the exercise bike in front of the TV and watch while you pedal. Or clip on your MP3 player and listen to your favourite tunes while you do yard work.

You can find more pointers on becoming more active plus descriptions of specific stretching and strengthening exercises online at www.arthritis.ca.

In today’s hectic world, it can be hard to find the time to spend with the people we love. Like, you have to take your son to baseball practice, your daughter to dance, and then grab your husband’s dry cleaning. Since your family’s life is so crazy, it is important to designate a chunk of time each day to be together and that is usually at the dinner table. So, you want that dinner time to be relaxing and to do that, it is essential to have a comfortable kitchen table and chairs set in place.

There are many kitchen table and chairs sets to choose from so you can find the perfect one for your space and your family’s needs. For example, maybe you have a larger family, a lot of young kids, and a big dining room. A great choice for you then would be a table that is larger in size, probably a long, rectangle table that has an extension feature to make it even longer and bigger if some unexpected guests should happen to stop by for dinner. Or, you might not have any kids at all in your family and have a fairly decent sized dining room. Sometime you like to entertain in it, but for the most part it is just you and your husband sitting down every night to a good meal. Then, a nice choice for you would one that has a round design that seats between four and six people or another nice option would be a smaller, square one too. With both table options, you can get comfy chairs to match. Like ones with plush, padded seats, and even armrests. Basically, there are many sizes and shapes available with the tables and other options include ones that have drop down leafs, some that are oval shaped, and many, many more.

Along with the different styles and designs of kitchen tables and chairs that you can get, they can also be crafted from a wide variety of materials. You can get ones made out of wood, like oak or pine, which would be a nice choice for if you have small children around. It is a surface that is easy to clean and maintain while being safe for kids to be around. Another material option is metal and glass. Like, you will see one that has a metal leg and base that supports a glass table top. This is a nice choice for people without kids, again, it is easy to clean and maintain, but sometimes glass breaks and that is not a good choice for small children. All of these materials are also available in a number of lovely finishes, which would really enhance the appearance of your dining space. If you want to check out all the different options that you could get, just hop on the internet for some online shopping.

So, in today’s hectic world, it is important for to set aside some family time each and every day. This usually happens during dinner, which is why you need a comfortable kitchen table and chairs set in your home. It creates a relaxing atmosphere that will have everyone excited about eating those family dinners.

(NC)—When you renovate your home for energy efficiency, there’s more to be saved than money on your energy bills. Additional savings can be achieved through the help of a number of federal and provincial incentives available when you conduct energy-saving retrofits.Take an attic insulation upgrade for example. Topping up on the amount of insulation you already have in your attic with up to 15 inches of PINK FIBERGLAS Batt Insulation will help achieve a value of R-50 in your attic. This means that you can help save up to 28 per cent* on your energy bills and a half-ton** of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

And that’s just the beginning. Here are three more ways to help save you money, even with a project as simple as re-insulating your attic.Save once – Up to $1,350 under the Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC)This temporary tax credit offered by the federal government is available to homeowners undertaking home improvement projects in 2009. The HRTC is applicable to eligible home renovation expenses incurred before February 1, 2010. With less than half a year remaining, there’s no better time to get going on those upgrades. This incentive allows homeowners to claim a 15 per cent non-refundable tax credit for the 2009 taxation year up to a maximum of $1,350 – a way to effectively reduce the amount required for materials and labour when increasing the amount of attic insulation in your home. Visit www.insulationtaxcredit.ca for details.

Save twice – Up to $750 underthe ecoENERGY Retrofit –

Homes programThrough the ecoENERGY Retrofit program, Natural Resources Canada offers Canadians up to $750 in savings when you achieve a total minimum insulation value of R-50 in your attic. Earlier this year, the Canadian gov-ernment expanded the program and increased the grants by 25 per cent, helping another 200,000 more home-owners cover their energy-efficiency retrofit costs. Don’t be left out! There are 7-million under-insulated attics in Canada so take advantage of the grant opportunities and bring your attic up to recommended insulation standards.

Save thrice – Under provincialand municipal rebate programsRebate programs are also being offered at the provincial and municipal levels with some programs matching the amounts of the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit program. Doubling the grant amounts means increased flexibility and money available down the road for even larger projects! For more information on the federal, provicinal and municipal grants and incentives available in your region, visit the Natural Resources Canada website at www.oee.nrcan.gc.ca. * Savings vary depending on the original amount of insulation in your home, climate, house size, air leaks, and personal energy use and living habits. Actual savings will vary. ** Based on an average attic size of 1700 SF with existing R19 insulation, averaged over seven cities in Canada. I have always loved the kitchen. In fact, it is my most favorite room in the house. Considering that I love everything there is to do about food (the tasty ones, that is), that comes as no surprise. I believe that the kitchen is one of the most important parts of the room. We need food to nourish us, calm us and all other purposes you might think of, and these foods are made and cooked inside the kitchen. You might recall a time when you have thought you have gone to heaven after tasting your mother home-made steak, or the time when you mouth watered from the smell of the brownies cooking in the oven. There is no doubt about it: the kitchen is the place tinkle and prattle of pans, plates, spoons, knives and ovens. Put simply, it is where all the accessories to make food are housed. For me, that sounds like paradise. Food heaven is what I call the kitchen.

Of course, the kitchen cannot stand on its own. Rather, the person who makes use of the kitchen cannot make use of its full potential without the things that would make it more conducive for use. One of these things that I am talking about is the lighting. Just how important is the lighting for a kitchen, really? You might ask. Yes, the kitchen may be home for cooking and baking and food slicing and food-preparing, but it is also for recipe-reading, for most people. And when we talk about reading, we are also talking about lights.

You might feel the way that I do about the kitchen, and you might want to make your kitchen as beautiful as you possibly can (like me). But if you are hesitating because of low finances, then kitchen lighting is the one place to start in making your kitchen more beautiful. There are various types of lighting that you might be inclined to try for your food haven: natural lighting, accent lighting, task lighting and general lighting. Natural lighting, as its name implies, uses natural light. Thus, the only things you will have to consider are the size and style of your windows, in terms of how much natural light they can allow through. Accent lighting refers to providing light sources for those areas in the kitchen that are not provided for or covered by general lighting.

The task lightings use is in bringing light to wherever place in the kitchen that you think should have light in order for you to perform tasks more efficiently. General lighting refers to the lighting that ensconces the whole kitchen in general, and all other lighting mainly serves as complementary lighting to the general lighting. One kind of a general lighting fixture is called the kitchen island lighting.

Kitchen island lighting: a general lighting fixture.

Kitchen Island refers to the kitchen pattern that you have in your home. Its pattern is usually rectangular, and thus Kitchen Island lighting fixtures is the logical choice for you to cater to. Island lights are those kinds of lights that can dangle above the island in your kitchen. They are great lights for the rectangular pattern of kitchen, but they are not limited to kitchen lighting. Pendant lights are perfect for this island lighting fixture. They can also come across as aesthetically appealing, and not just functional.

The kitchen is one great room in a house, and one way to beautify it is through its lighting. Kitchen island lighting is usually a great lighting fixture for the kitchen island pattern.

This recipe is not especially heart-healthy -- or any kind of healthy. But, if you are looking for a sumptuous dessert (maybe to serve for a special occasion) that is “Died and Gone to Heaven” good, this is it.Low-Fat Alternative: you can make a low-fat version of this recipe using low-fat cream cheese, low-fat topping, and use skim milk with the instant pudding.

Bottom layer:• 2 sticks butter• 3 cups flour• 1 cup chopped walnuts (walnuts are optional; you may omit them if you want to)Mix the butter, flour and walnuts as you would for pie crust, pat into a 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool.

Second layer:• 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese

(softened)• 2 cups of pow-dered sugar• 2 cups of Cool Whip (or another similar topping)Measure into a mixing bowl and whip at high speed until smooth. Spread over the first layer.

Third layer:• 2 3-ounce packages of instant pudding (any flavor -- chocolate, lemon, butterscotch, vanilla, pistachio -- whatever you like)• 3 cups of milkPour instant pudding into a mixing bowl, add the milk, and whip at high speed for several minutes until thick. Spread over the cream cheese layer.

Fourth layer:Spread on enough Cool Whip (or another topping) to cover the pudding. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and coconut.

Chill the dessert in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Do you enjoy cinnamon? Here is a spice that we can enjoy, and that is also healthy for us.Cinnamon was one of the first commodities traded regularly between the Near East and Europe. Surprisingly, cinnamon is a small evergreen tree. It is the bark that is processed which turns into the ground cinnamon and cinnamon sticks (or quills) we are used to seeing. Its active and healthful components are cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate and cinnamyl alcohol which are derived from the essential oils in the bark.Ceylon and cassia are the two most popular varieties of cinnamon, even though there are hundred of varieties. Cassia, the stronger of the two and the less expensive, is more common in North America. Both cinnamons are an excellent source of trace mineral manganese and a good source of dietary fiber, iron and calcium.

Insulin ReductionBy just digesting a ¼ teaspoon a day, patients with type 2 diabetes had lowered their blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Levels increased when they stopped adding cinnamon to their diet.Cinnamon normalizes blood sugar levels. This helps to reduce cravings for sugar. This helps to control blood glucose levels by preventing insulin spikes after meals. It reduces serum glucose, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol as well as total cholesterol.

Other Healthy BenefitsCinnamon has anti-clotting properties; helps prevent the unwanted clotting of blood platelets, which places cinnamon in the category of an “anti-inflammatory” food. This anti-inflammatory benefit can help relieve arthritis as well as relieve pain and stiffness of muscles and joints.Cinnamon also has anti-microbial actions, stopping the growth of bacteria as well as fungi and yeast Candida. It is so successful as an anti-microbial, that it has been used as a food preservative. There are so many other helpful benefits of cinnamon, beside the affect it has on blood sugar and its anti-clotting and anti-microbial properties. Just a few benefits of cinnamon are listed below:

Curbs cravingsSupports digestive functionRelieves congestionConstricts and tones tissuesBoosts brain function by boosting cognitive function and memoryRelieves menstrual discomfortImproves circulation by thinning blood

Provides calcium and fiber protect against heart diseaseImproves colon health, by removing bile salts from the bodyPrevents urinary tract infections and irritable bowel syndromeHelps address tooth decay and gum disease

How to add Cinnamon to Your DietAdding cinnamon to your diet can be easy as making toast. Just add a touch of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon to whole grain bread for an adult version of cinnamon toast. Sprinkle cinnamon onto your whole grain oatmeal or cereals or on yogurt, soups and sauces.Simmer your favorite tea, coffee or soy milk with cinnamon sticks, creating the perfect breakfast drink or bedtime nightcap. For an ethnic flair, add liberal amounts of cinnamon to beans or meat in your Mexican dishes. Or add to curries and chilis for a warm, spicy kick. You can also sauté vegetables with cinnamon sticks for unique flavoring and healthful benefits. (Remove the cinnamon sticks before serving.) Let cinnamon add some spice to your life.

Maple syrup is regarded as an ordinary sweetener for breakfasts and desserts. However, most people do not know certain interesting facts about it such as the processes in producing it and its various types.

One of the most beloved ingredients included in breakfasts and snacks is maple syrup. With its rich texture and delightfully sweet taste, it has become a staple sweetener in breakfasts such as French toast, cornbread, pancakes, and waffles. Also, maple syrup has been commonly used in snacks such as ice cream, candy, and other kinds of desserts. Furthermore, a more unconventional use of maple syrup is demonstrated in its being a flavoring agent or sugar source for beer. But as you pour that sweet syrup on your bread, do you ever wonder how it is made?

Maple syrup production is indeed an interesting process, and it all starts in a sugar bush, which is a term used to describe a maple syrup farm. In this location, sugar maple trees or black maple trees are cultivated. Producers of maple syrup have chosen the two aforesaid kinds of maple trees as they contain the highest amount of sugar. Usually during February, March, and April, maple trees produce sap, which is collected by plastic pipelines that are attached to specific parts of the trees. The pipes send the maple sap to a large container, which is then transported to a sugarhouse. Once in the sugarhouse, the sap will be placed in a tank that has valves, which lead to a

flat pan called an evaporator. The evapora-tor will boil down the sap so much that a huge amount of water in it is lost and it would turn into a syrupy substance, which is the final product. With regard to its main producers, Canada provides around 80% of the world’s maple syrup, most of it made in the province of Quebec. In the United States, Vermont is the largest maple syrup producer.

Moving on, maple syrup comes in a number of grades. In Canada, maple syrup is divided into three grades, each one containing a number of classes depending on color. First is Canada #1, which includes extra light, light, and medium. Next are Canada #2 which contains amber and Canada #3 which includes

dark maple syrup. In the United States, maple syrup is divided into Grade A and Grade B. Grade A is further broken down into light amber, medium amber, and dark amber. Grade B is much darker than Grade dark amber.

Lastly, looking for sources of bottled maple syrup is easy as this product is available in almost all cities. Supermarkets and grocery stores are primary sources of maple syrup. In these establishments, you can find various types,

brands, and quantities of maple syrup, and some of them may even let you have a sample of a particular brand before purchasing it. On the other hand, if you plan to start a business related to maple syrup such as a pancake stand, you can find retail outlets in your city that sell maple syrup in bulk. Alternatively, you can also try to browse the Internet for online purchasing sites that sell maple syrup and deliver to your establishment or house the product you ordered.

from Weber’s Real Grilling™ by Jamie PurviancePrep Time: 20 minutesMarinating Time: Grilling Time: 8 to 11 minutes

Sauce

• 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil• 1/2 cup nely chopped red onion• 2 teaspoons minced garlic• 1 teaspoon dried oregano• 1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes• 1 canned chipotle chile in adobo sauce• 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt• 1/4 teaspoon nely chopped black pepper • 4 salmon llets (with skin), 6 to 8 ounces each and about 1 inch thick• Extra virgin olive oil• Kosher salt• Freshly ground black pepper

1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add the onion and cook until soft, 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic and oregano and cook until the garlic is light brown, about 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Add the tomatoes with the juice and the chile. Season with the sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cook for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally and crushing the tomatoes with the back of a large spoon as they soften. Carefully pour the sauce into a food processor. Puree and return to the pan. Keep warm over low heat.

2. Generously brush or spray the llets with oil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Grill, esh side down, over direct high heat (450°F to 550°F), with the lid closed as much as possible, until you can lift the llets off the grate with tongs without sticking, 6 to 8 minutes. Turn the llets and nish cooking them to desired doneness, 2 to 3 minutes for medium rare. Slip a spatula between the skin and esh, and transfer the llets to serving plates. Serve warm with the sauce.

• 1 large onion, cut into 1/2-inch slices• 2 pounds top sirloin steak• Extra virgin olive oil• 1 teaspoon kosher salt• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Sauce

• 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil• 2 garlic cloves• 1 pound mushrooms, quartered • 4 tablespoons butter• 1/2 cup our• 3 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) beef broth• 1 cup red wine• 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper • 1 cup sour cream• 1 pound egg noodles, cooked

1. Lightly brush or spray the onion slices and steak with the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Add the garlic and mushrooms along with the rest of the sauce ingredients and stir to combine. Reduce the heat, partially cover, and simmer for 1-1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Blend in the sour cream and cook 15 minutes more. Serve immediately over the cooked noodles; gently toss to combine.

(NC)—Most health specialists agree that the flu shot is the most effective way to stop a virus in its tracks.

This year, to guard against the H1N1 virus (or swine flu) an additional vaccine may also be available at the end of October. Add this to the regular flu shot — and it may seem like a more aggressive measure than one might prefer. Nevertheless, the shots are recommended and so is a healthy lifestyle that includes a regimen to build immunity. Take a look at these Top 10 Tips to achieve it: 1. Wash your hands thoroughly andfrequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

2. Use a tissue, sleeve or elbow for a sneeze and cough since hands spread germs more quickly.

3. Don’t touch your face in public until you’ve washed your hands.

4. Drink plenty of fluids to flush germs out of your system while you hydrate.

5. Get fresh air to beat the indoorrecycled heat and to keep your body moist.

6. Take natural supplements to boost your immune system. A unique North American ginseng extract (sold as Cold-FX) has been shown to boost the immune system and reduce the risk of colds and flu by up to 89%.

7. Eat foods containing vitamin-boosting phytochemicals like dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits.

8. Do aerobic exercise regularly to pump oxygen from your lungs to your blood, increasing the body’s natural virus-killing cells.

9. Cut out alcohol since it suppresses the immune system and dehydrates the body, slowing your recovery.

10. Relax quietly or meditate for at least 30 minutes every day to activate your immune system.

Dear Reena,I have taken on a new hobby which is growing popcorn in my garden! What is the best way to store popcorn so that it stays fresh? Biannce Hi Biannce,Popcorn is a great treat year round. One of the advantages of growing popcorn in your garden is that you can sample some of the many different types of popcorn. Popcorn is also a healthy snack choice, compared to beef it has about two thirds as much protein, more iron and about the same amount of calcium. Plus, the hull provides roughage, similar to bran flakes.Store popcorn in an air tight container in a cool dry place such as; the fridge or freezer. If stored properly, popcorn can be kept almost indefinitely.

Hi Reena,On more than one occasion I have made a batch of homemade soup that ended up tasting a little too salty. Typically the entire contents of the pot ends up being thrown out. Is there any way to save salty soup? Mavis

Dear Mavis,The salty soup remedy depends on the type of soup that you are cooking, add one or more of the following (whichever goes with your soup). Cream, milk, water, chicken stock, beef stock, tomato juice, tomatoes, brown sugar or potatoes. If you choose cream or milk, don’t let the soup return to a boil or the milk may curdle. If you use stock, make sure it is a low-salt version, or better yet, your own homemade, unsalted stock. Dear Reena,We hired my niece to paint the basement steps while we were away on vacation. She did a great job on the steps but left the paintbrushes out, and they dried up. Is there any way to soften the bristles so that the brushes can be used once again? Robert Hi Robert,Dip the paintbrushes in turpentine oil and let them stand for 15 to 20 minutes. Rub the brushes against a clean piece of cloth to test if the paint is coming off (re-immerse if needed). Or bring a pan of white vinegar to a boil on your stove and allow your paintbrushes to simmer for five minutes, in an old pot no longer used for cooking. Remove from pan and wash in hot soapy water. Soaking paintbrushes in hair conditioner, paint thinner or linseed oil are also options. Dear Reena,I change the water in my fishbowl every week and as I pour the water down the drain I can’t help but wonder if there is a use for fishbowl water. I read once that you can water your plants with it, is that true? Garry Absolutely Garry,Use fishbowl water to feed your plants. It will make them grow tall and green! Just one word of advice, be careful not to drop the fish into the plant soil when watering your plants (learnt that the hard way).TRIVIA: A town in Italy, Monza, has outlawed the use of fish bowls for keeping goldfish. This law went into effect the summer of 2004.

Dear Reena,I buy large jars of salsa and spaghetti sauce in order to save money. After awhile I often notice mold on the bottom of the lid. How should I store sauce jars to prevent this from happening? Lacey Dear Lacey,You are right; purchasing bulk foods typically saves consumers money unless half of it is thrown away. I store large jars of sauce in the fridge upside down. Doing this creates a tight seal between the sauce and the lid. Be sure to use sauces before the expiration date. Another option is to divide the sauce into portions and store in freezable containers in the freezer. Dear Reena,I’ve had this problem for quite some time and it is a mystery. My husband and I do not share a bathroom and the problem is with his bathroom. Somehow the dark hand towels that he uses get light colored, sometimes pinkish spots or blotches on them. It’s not bleach as we use microfiber cloths and water to clean. I’ve asked him not to wipe the sink with the towel in case the blotches come from his after shave or something chemical like that. Last week my brother was the only one using the bathroom for a week as he was our guest, and I put out new towels. The same thing happened. Do you think it has something to do with chemicals that men use in after shave or shaving gel or something like that? I know this doesn’t happen in the washer, it happens in the bathroom. It’s a complete mystery to me. Can you help? Lorraine Dear Lorraine,Before you spend one more second of your time wondering... compare your husband’s (and your brother’s) toothpaste with yours. My guess is that the toothpaste contains bleach and after each use he is wiping his face on the towel and permanently discoloring the fabric. P.S. Great job using microfiber clothes to clean your home!

Trucks have two ways of being customized. One way is for the looks; the other is for the performance. There are different types of accessories for these kinds of upgrades.

Truck owners and enthusiasts have been known to modify their vehicles to get what they want for their driving experience. There are two paths to upgrading and personalizing their trucks. One path is to improve the look and features of the body and the interior, making changes to personalize the appearance of the truck. The other path to take is to improve the power and performance of the truck, to get the most out of the engine. Whatever choice of improvement is made, the way to get the modification wanted for the owner’s truck is through the use of truck accessories.

When it comes to improving the look and features of the truck, one normally starts with the exterior. One major upgrade to the truck’s looks is to change up or add a tonneau or bed cover. There are three types of cover for your truck’s bed. There is the cloth or vinyl type of cover, which is just tied to the bed’s sides with a rope that is sewn into the edges of the tonneau and strapped to clips or snaps along the bed’s body. Next is the roll-up type, which is a plastic or fabric cover rolled into a container near the cab and stretched out over and secured to the end of the bed. The last and most popular type of tonneau is the hard plastic or fiberglass kind. It is a solid cover that stretches the length of the bed, and is securely locked at the edge. This is considered to be the favorite choice of truckers upgrading their truck’s looks since the fiberglass tonneau looks best compared to the other types of tonneau.

The other accessories to upgrade the looks of the truck are grill guards, which protect the front end of the truck. Nerf bars, which run alongside and under the truck’s body, thus serving as a small step between the doors of the cab and the ground and also serves as protection from rocks underneath which the truck may pass. Running boards, which are small boards that run under and alongside the cab. These serve as a step where additional passengers may stand on while the truck is running. These accessories plus roof racks, toolboxes, winches among other things are the accessories needed to upgrade the look of one’s truck.

To upgrade the performance of trucks, on the other hand, needs a different set of accessories. To begin, custom muf-flers and pipes to increase the horsepower of the engine is a good way to start. Then performance chips and programmers is a good upgrade to tell your engine’s computer that you need more power. This is because the chip will be able to modify your engine to provide better performance be it with more power, cleaner emissions or lower fuel consumption.

With customizing your truck, there is really no limit to what you can choose to do. It depends on the life you lead and the needs you have from your vehicle. After all, you accessorize your truck to give it the features you want. Tweak the look, and tweak the performance. Tweak your truck.

One of the greatest qualities of a truck, whether a semi-truck, pickup truck, or dump truck, is its ability to carry heavy loads. But truck owners know that repeated use of the truck bed with heavy materials will cause wear and tear. In order to protect ones investment in the truck, truck box liners have become a popular form of defense. They not only increase the lifespan of the vehicle, but will also increase the value of the truck if the owner should ever consider trading, selling, or leasing their equipment.

There many different features that truck box liners have to offer, but they all fall into two general categories: drop-in and spray-on. There are pros and cons of each option, which should be examined and researched before a purchase is made. The type of liner a buyer ultimately chooses depends largely on the type of hauling that will take place with his or her truck.

Drop-in bed liners offer a high amount of protection to a truck’s bed, and are generally applied to industrial-grade trucks. The iners are often fairly thick and have rigid bodies to prevent dents in the bed of the truck. Also, they last a long time, are easy to install and remove, and are easy to clean.

Drop in liners need to be properly installed and maintained, so

they don’t shift around in the truck bed. For example, if dirt, sand, or other materials get underneath the liner, scratching of the bed could occur. This can also cause weak spots to form in the liner, but following through with the recommended maintenance and cleaning is the best way to prevent this from happening. When maintained properly, the lifetime of HMW and UHMW drop-in liners are greatly extended.

The second form of liner is a spray-on type. These liners are sprayed directly onto the truck bed, and there is a reduced possibility of slipping or scratching. Although they are not as thick as the drop-in style, the spray-on liners do minimize minor denting. They are easy to clean, available in many different colors, and have a sleek look. However, because these bed liners are applied directly to the truck, they cannot be removed. Heavy or sharp loads will have a greater chance of damaging, gouging, or denting the truck bed with spray-on liners because of their limited thickness and durability. Also, spilled paints, or other hard- to-remove stains are made even more dif-ficult to remove because of these liners, potentially overruling the variety of color choices by permanently staining the bed.

A truck bed liner exists for almost any type of load one my wish to carry. When choosing an appropriate liner for your truck bed, a few important points to keep in mind are:

1. How is the truck being used

2. What types of loads is it carrying

3. How long does the liner need to last

4. Are the visual aesthetics of the truck important

While evaluating liners, these questions will facilitate finding and choosing the right type of liner for your needs. And you’ll end up with a safe and effective product that will extend the capabilities and lifetime of your truck.

With the gas prices gone up, people need to find ways to keep away from excess fuel consumption. It is vital to save on fuel, especially when you travel long distances. Most of your hard-earned money goes on refueling the car tank.

Hence, you need to look for ways for restricting your car’s fuel con-sumption. For this, you may seek help from different web sites on the Internet providing information on how to save on fuel.

As a first step toward saving on gas, use quality oil to improve the engine’s performance. This reduces friction and the car consumes less fuel. Certain branded auto oils bring down the fuel costs from 5 % to 20 %. Next, you as a car owner, have to decide on how to improve your car’s overall performance.

Useful Tips:

1. Use the engine oil recommended only for your vehicle. Do not use under-grade oil, as it reduces the life of engine. Check the octane mark before you buy the fuel.

2. Do not leave the engine on for lengthy periods. Pre-warming the engine for one minuet is enough.

3. Fuel the engine when it is cool, because each gallon will contain more gas, as the liquid

expands in heat.

4. Keep gas cap airtight after the engine tank is full. You may accidentally lose on gas, if the cap is not fitted properly.

5. Check the car tires properly before driving for your long trip. Fill the tires according to recommendations of the manufacturer. Do not leave the tires under-filled. Always carry an extra tire.

6. Limit the car’s speed while driving on expressways. Make sure to activate the cruise control at regular intervals.

7. Do not drive on bald tires, since they are not only unsafe, but also lead to much fuel consumption.

8. Avoid starting and stopping the engine continually. The car consumes much fuel this way.

9. Do not apply hard brakes. Accelerate the car gently. Ensure you apply brakes at the minimum.

10. Do not load the car with heavy items. This leads to more fuel consumption and the tires tend to deflate soon.

11. Minimize the usage of air condition in your car, since it increases the fuel consumption.

12. Treat the car through proper maintenance and tune-ups. By servic-ing the car frequently, the engine runs smooth and you save on unforeseen servicing as well as fuel costs. Tell the maintenance team to add the fuel injector cleaner every time they change the engine oil.

Online Help:

You may seek help from different web sites on the Internet devoted to auto users for providing round the clock information to save on fuel. Many web sites post the fuel prices that fuel pumps normally charge.

Hence, locate a nearby fuel station, where you can get fuel for your car at the cheapest rate. Next, it is good to walk the moment you reach the target destination. Avoid taking the vehicle in reverse gear unless needed. There are tons of ways to save on gas, it’s your job to find the options and take advantage of it.

The first-generation Corvette, sold between 1953 and 1962, was available exclusively as a convertible. Conceived by famed Chevy designed Harley

Earle, it was intended to evoke small European sports cars, which had become popular in American following World War II. The Corvette convertible was also a two-door, two-seater to complete the requirements to be branded a roadster. The Corvette originally featured a folding soft top that could be stored beneath a hard cover between the passenger cabin and enclosed trunk. The Corvette

was initially powered by a 235-cubic inch inline-six cylinder engine, but by the late-1950s a V8 was available as well.

The Audi Cabriolet is one of the more stylish cars that come with amazing safety and performance features. One of the most sought after models is the A4 Cabriolet which comes fitted as standard with some amazing features often only found on models in the higher price range.

The A4 Audi Cabriolet model features Servotronic speed dependent power steering; this is plugged as a user friendly steering system which balances the amount of help given. As the name suggests it responds to how fast you are travelling and alters to different environments. Which for example, helps in different measures when travelling around town in traffic, or if you have a large stretch of motorway in front of you? The dynamic suspen-sion on the car compliments this making it a smooth and bump free ride on even the smallest of country roads. If you go for the 7 speed multitronics gearbox, you get the best of both worlds. You have the ease of automatic transmission while also still being economical on the fuel.

The roof of course as you would expect is fully automatic at just the touch of a button. Audi claim that you could open the roof when travelling at speeds of as much as 18 MPH. Whereby the steel roof slides and folds effortlessly and quietly. Even the basic 1.8 standard 5 speed is packed with stylish features both on the interior and exterior. The interior features the driver’s information system or DIS as Audi like to call it.

The interior of the car is based on sleek styles, with angled line which go towards deflecting the light. This is just as well and pays compliment to the dark leather seating and aluminium. With style being one of the top priorities of the car, all aspects of it are taken into account. This is right down to the single grille in chrome and blue glow coming from the tubular headlights which focus on increasing visibility. These set the car in a class of it`s own, and use gas not electric. The steering wheel is not left out in the fashion stakes along with being fully adjustable it is extremely comfortable and responsive, clad in black leather.

The Audi Cabriolet is designed to meet every conceivable safety situation

possible. Active and passive safety features have been specially adapted by Audi, which is claimed to be one of the most secure environments possible. This is helped by not only features on the inside of the car but also the outer. The front passengers along with the driver are given protection by way of full sized airbags which are governed by two stage sensors. This takes into account the speed you are travelling and the type of accident you should be involved in. If the impact comes from the side then protection is in place by way of an energy absorbing brace. A good braking system is of course a huge bonus when it comes to safety measures. The model is not let down with poor braking as it offers a braking system to contend with the cars powerful V6 engine. EPS comes as standard which is an enhanced stability programme which goes towards ensuring that the car stops smoothly and quickly in any situation.

Car safety should be the biggest concern of owners. This is especially required if you intend to haul your kids inside for a long ride. Car can be beasts on the road, especially the fast ones. So you have to be very sure that riding your own car is safe for your and your family. These are the things you have to do prior to driving:

1. Check the tires. When checking your car, start with the tires. Is the pressure sufficient enough? Countless of road accidents and delays are caused by faulty tires. Don’t be stuck up on the shoulders of the road just because your tires burst.

2. Check the brakes. If there’s one dangerous mistake car owners can do, that’s driving the car without know-ing that the brakes doesn’t work. Always step on the break after leaving the garage. This way, you’ll confidently know that the brakes are working. You also have to check the brake fluid and see if it is good.

3. Take the car for preventive maintenance. If you are planning to take your car on a long trip, it is best that you take it to the

repair shop a few days before the trip. This way, the mechanic can check

all possible problems and fix it in time for your trip. This should be a com-mon practice of every car owner, especially for those who knew nothing about repairing cars.

4. Double check your car’s safety system. While you can’t check the air bags, you can certain inspect all the seat belts and see if everything works as expected. Replace broken ones ac-cordingly. If you’re using car seats for children, it is your duty to make sure that it is in its best working condition.

5. Follow traffic laws. The safety of the driver and his passengers depends on his own attitude on the road. If you’re driving, it is your responsibility to decide correctly when faced in certain situations. The traffic rules are placed there to guide drivers and achieve harmony on the road. Be a defensive driver. Don’t be too aggressive when driving. Don’t take chances either. Be on the safe side at all times.

6. If you have anything in your car replaced or fixed, triple check if it is done right. You should not put your family in peril by relying too much on a mechanic’s work. It always pays to double check somebody else’s job on your vehicle. If you can afford to pay another expert to inspect the job done on your car, do that. This way, you can be sure that you are not sacrificing anything in terms of safety.

7. Don’t drive if you’re not up to it.If you feel sick or are uncomfortable driving, don’t push it. Driving under these conditions is as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. Even if you think you can go your destination safely, you must think about your safety and the safety of your passengers at all times.

There are many types of motorcycles, with each class having distinct differences. Here are the basics of the different types of motorcycle classes.

CRUISERS AND CHOPPERSA cruiser is a type of motorcycle where the rider has a straighter position while sitting and the feet are always in a forward position on the bike, meaning they are resting up or in front of the rider. Where for example on a bicycle, for instance, your feet are below where you are sitting. Cruisers are said to be more comfortable for riding long distances. Cruisers tend to be the most widely customized motorcycles and as such are sometimes referred to as “custom motorcycles”. These custom cruisers, also called “choppers”, which comes from a reference to the frame being chopped by having the front fork extended. The chopper was the type of motorcycle that Henry Fonda and Dennis Hopper rode in the 1960’s movie Easy Rider. A cruiser or chopper is also the most popular class of motorcycle for the serious biker and you’ll find a majority of bikers riding them at motorcycle conventions, expos, rallies and other events, as they give off the classic “cool” biker look. The leading maker of this type of bike is Harley Davidson.

TOURING BIKESTouring bikes are another major type of motorcycle. Touring bikes differ from cruisers and choppers in that they are geared towards riders who wish to travel frequently or have commutes. Typically, a touring bike has a large wind screen above the handlebar area. A touring bike will also typically have a larger fuel tank to allow for less frequent stops during travel. The seats and seating position are also optimized for long rides, with more

overall comfort and better positioning. Some types of touring bikes may also have luggage and storage options including hard case saddlebags and storage on the rear end of the bike. Other types of touring bikes offer amenities that you’d find on cars, including heated seats, stereo systems, GPS

and even air conditioning. Safety devices such as air bags have also been included in some touring bike models. Other types of touring bikes are optimized for off road travel, and include higher ground clearance and extra shielding for protection from off road hazards. A good example of this type of bike is the police bikes that were used on the TV show “Chips”. Honda, BMW and Yamaha are some of the leading makers of touring bikes.

SPORT BIKESSport bikes are much less geared towards comfort than to optimizing the overall performance of the bike. The speed and acceleration are foremost a priority for sport bike enthusiasts. To accommodate this, sport

bikes typically offer features like wider tires, lightweight frames and technologically advanced braking, which all sit on a high performance engine. Sport bikes are also much more aerodynamically designed to lessen wind drag and maximize speed, so you’ll see very sleek, smooth and often colorful designs. There are also different types of sport bikes, with small sport bikes offering engines from 100 cc to 150 cc, all the way up to what’s known as hyper sport bikes, with engines ranging from 1000 cc all the way up to an astounding 1400 cc. Japanese makers lead the pack when it comes to sport bikes, with makers like Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha being at the forefront.

The province of Saskatchewan is located in the country of Canada and is between the provinces of Alberta and Manitoba; they call this province a prairie province because of its flat lands.

Saskatchewan’s economy is associated with agriculture, however increasing challenges has meant that agriculture, fishing, hunting and forestry together make up 6.8% of the province’s GDP. Wheat is the most known crop here, and perhaps the one stereotypically associated with the province, but other grains like oats, canola, rye, peas, barley, lentils, canary seed and flax are also produced. Mining is also a major industry in the province, with Saskatchewan being the world leader in potash exports. In the northern part of the province, forestry is important.

Saskatchewan is the world’s most vital supplier of uranium, and supplies much of the United States of America.

Saskatchewan has many great tourist attractions to offer, they have beautiful golf course, a plenty of lakes where you can spend hours doing water actives like fishing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, fresh water diving. You and your families can get a history lesson about the province of Saskatchewan, go see the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (which are know world wide) Centennial Museum. Big Muddy Badlands, Otter Rapids, Roche Percee, Great Sand Hills, Athabasca Sand Dunes, Cypress Hills, Nistowiak Falls are all neat and educational to visit.

Saskatchewan has so much to offer so go out and tour the province, it is well worth your time.

This weeks fishing report:

Provided by:

Brown trout vary greatly in appearance.

Generally, they are olive green to brown on top shading to a creamy, golden-yellow on the sides and an off white along the belly.

Most brown trout are covered with black spots along their sides, back and dorsal fin with each spot surrounded by a light halo.

Frequently, the spots near the lateral line are red.

Unlike brook and rainbow trout, the tails of brown trout have few if any spots.

The average size of brown trout is 12 to 14 inches.

A fly is a lure made to resemble an insect or other fish food. The idea behind the design is simple and true: make a lure that looks like the natural prey of some fish and they’ll come racing onto the hook. Since at least the mid-17th century and probably for hundreds of years before, that idea has been tested over and over again.

It works pretty well.

The creativity of fishermen and their friends who make flies for fun and profit is astounding, not least to the anglers themselves. Flies are often as much works of art as practical devices. But practical they are. Whether made to look like a mayfly, a tiny prawn or even a small rodent, a great fly is a wonder.

There is the humble Dry Fly. Designed to float on the surface, it may appear to a curious fish to be a dragonfly resting on a pond. Or, it may look like any of a thousand insects that rest on the water before moving on. The real thing often doesn’t get the chance to leave.

An Orange Stimulator, for example, may look like a grasshopper who jumped a little too far. The hope is that the ‘insect’ will prove too tempting to resist. That hope is often satisfied. Flies like this are used more often for freshwater fishing, such as a favorite lake where the waters are calm.

A Wet Fly, by contrast, is designed to sink just below the surface where they might resemble an insect who is about to see a watery grave. The angler intends the fish to see a dry grave right afterward.

The Nymph, for example, is engineered to look like the developing insect who has not yet sprouted his wings. In its larval form the real thing may often float through the water or crawl along underwater rocks. At that stage they are irresistible to a hungry trout. Or so the eager angler wants to believe. Hope

springs eternal in the sport of fishing.

Terrestrial flies are lovingly shaped to imitate non-aquatic insects or worms. Even prey that doesn’t seek to live on or under the water may live near it. Unluckily for them they often find themselves in unexpected locations where the fish are happy to see them.

Another type called Streamers are made to look like baitfish. They may be used in freshwater or saltwater situations and they are as diverse as any other category of fly. A Clouser that resembles a minnow is a favorite of many, but a Sucking Leech has its fans, too.

Not all flies look like animals, however. Some are made to resemble plant food that some fish also enjoy, such as berries, seeds or flowers. Petals and fruit that grow near the water often drop into it where the fish are very grateful. Carp flies are a common variety in this category.

No angler can long resist the urge to make his or her own fly. Sooner or later that latent creativity bursts forth in the desire to up the odds of landing that perfect lake trout. Let your inner artist out and enjoy fishing that much more. Even if you don’t catch anything you’ll have at least one thing to brag about.

Whether you’ve invested a large sum in your fishing rods or just have a lot of sentimen-tal attachment to the fishing rods you’re currently using, you want to make sure you know how to properly care for them so they will last a long time.

The tips below will help you ensure that your favorite fish-ing rods will have a long and happy life as part of your fishing equipment.

Post Fishing Care for Fishing RodsOnce you finish fishing for the day, you might be tempted to just toss your rod back in the car and then back in the closet when you return home. That’s not a good idea. First, you never want to put a wet rod back in its sheath. If you were fishing in saltwater, all of that salt from the rod will end up getting into the sheath and cause future damage. No matter what type of water you are using for fishing you should wipe down your rod thor-oughly with a dry, soft cloth before putting it back in its sheath. If for some reason, you aren’t able to do this, you should wipe it down as soon as you return home and wash the sheath to remove anything that might have gotten into the material thanks to the water.

If you don’t plan to use it for an extended period of time, let it dry and then return it to its sheath. For storage, make sure to hang the sheath on a hook or hanger. If possible, do not just lean your rod against a wall. This can not only cause damage to the rod but it’s also an easy way for your fishing rods to get broken accidentally.

Cleaning Your Fishing RodsLike all types of sporting equipment, your fishing rods are going to need some thorough cleaning from time to time. How often depends greatly on how frequently you’re going fishing and what type of fishing you’re doing. For example, salt water fish-ing is going to require more frequent cleaning than fresh water fishing.

To clean your rod, you’ll need a soft cloth and lukewarm water mixed with soap. Get the cloth wet then ring it out before rubbing it over your rod gently. It’s also a good idea to use an old toothbrush to clean out dirt and debris that collect around the guide rings and in other hard to reach parts of the fishing rods.

Inspecting Your Fishing RodsNever just take it for granted that your fishing rods are in great shape. You might find out the hard way that they’ve been slowly damaged by a minor problem that was never taken care of. For example, if water has gotten under the guide rings and start to cause rusting the rod can be in trouble and the ring should be replaced as soon as possible. To find out that problem, you need to be doing routine inspections of your equipment.

Caring for Your Fishing RodsYou can find out more about caring for your equipment properly by visiting offline or online sporting equipment shops, such as Sea Isle Tackle.
