1.7. Significance of the Study

1.8. Definition of Terms

as the production of food and water; regulating, such as the control of

climate and disease; supporting, such as nutrient cycles and crop pollination;

and cultural, such as spiritual and recreational benefits

Restoration Ecology – the practice of renewing and restoring degraded,

damaged, or destroyed ecosystems and habitats in the environment by active

human intervention and action

Urban Park – dynamic institutions that play a vital, but not fully appreciated

or understood role in the social, economic and physical well-being of

urban areas and its residents

Niche – describes how an organism or population responds to the

distribution of resources and competitors

Biosphere Reserve – areas comprising terrestrial, marine and coastal

ecosystems

Lagoon – shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by

barrier islands or reefs

Curio Shop – a room or shop wherein small objects valued for its rarity or

beauty are displayed

Curator – a person in charge of a place or exhibit
