Obediah is the most significant brief that I have worked on over the previous ten weeks; this was a collaborative brief, which I completed with Charlie Crosby. This brief demanded the most time as preparing screens, contacting photographers and trying to co-ordinate between Charlie and myself took the longest amount of time.

About Obediah

When Obediah was first created the logo was something that our peers and other designers did not agree with due to it looking too nautical. After working more with the logo and trying to simplify it so that it relates more to what we are trying to achieve with the company. This brief started as a university project but over the period of it being created it has quickly expanded to become a small company that could potentially progress into something larger.

Development

Over the period of this brief I managed to develop a whole range of new skills which will help to broaden my abilities as a Graphic Designer. Whilst screen printing I learnt how to neatly and precisely produce T-shirts which are able of being sold to the target audience and the general public, the techniques that I developed most strongly were fabric printing as I have never done this before so to be able to now print confidently is a huge achievement to myself.

Board: Final Products 2 / 4

The final products for Obediah the Trend Original where created so the general public are able to purchase our products but mainly to get our work out so that our design work is out and live. Charlie and myself created a huge range of products in various colours so that we can try to offer our customers a dynamic range of items which include jumpers, drawstring bags, tote bags and t-shirts; this will soon be getting pushed further so we are able to print with hats, jeans and maybe even jackets. By hand printing our own designs this keeps the designs unique to the individual customer.

The Designs

The initial designs were compiled from quotes and other childish like imagery, which didn’t fully reflect the image that we are wanting with the company. This was soon amended after having an intervention so that we were able to see what was in fashion and what students wanted in clothing. A more abstract style was then created giving us more interesting shapes and styles to work with.

Interest in Obediah

After doing this we instantly received huge interest from students about when our products would be on sale and how they would be able to get their hands on our new range of products. We also had interest from a local store called ‘The Allotment’, they showed huge interest in our clothing range and offered to buy our designs from us. We decided to keep our options open and design them a separate collection for just their store, talks with this store are currently ongoing.

Board: Photoshoot 3 / 4

A photo-shoot was created to be able to get some high quality images so that we can create a look book that would help us to communicate and get our brand further into the world.

Behind The Scenes

The photographs on the right are some behind the scene snaps that show the sort of grunge like style, which we were trying to achieve, due to our style of clothing being urban wear. Our photographs were taken by a photographer named Thiery Sewell who knew exactly what we were wanting due to the expression boards, from this he knew which models would be right for the photo-shoot and how to make them react with the environment to get the perfect photographs for our business. When all the final photos were created we managed to get around 450 in total, which gave us a massive selection to work from, as we only needed around 20 - 30 for the look book.

Board: Look Book & Business Card 4 / 4

The look book and business cards for Obediah were something that needed to be created to a high standard. This is because it will be the first impression that potential customers will get before they look at any others of our designs.

Business Cards

The business cards are created so that we can hand these out to potential customers who either purchase, or show interest in our company. All the cards will be perforated down the centre so that you’re able to tear it in half and then double the amount of exposure that we could gain.

Once the business card is torn in half the details on either section can then still be understood and read.

Look Book

The look book is something that had to represent Obediah in the best possible way, as this could potentially be the first point of contact for our customers. So to show this I designed the front cover in a simple manner with a spot varnish finish so it still carries the high-end finish, but is as simple as can possibly be.

The layout through the look book has been kept simple to reflect the company image. To achieve this I have placed the images in an abstract way, and then placed as little text as possible to keep it simple. At the back of the book there is a page where you can follow the codes from the pages with the items on so the customers are able to see which other colours are available in that t shirt.
