The top posting occupations in Oakland County have consistently included many of the samoccupations for several quarters. Software Developers for Applications and Retail Salespersconsistently in the top jobs, and this quarter is no exception. For the first time in over a yearhowever, Registered Nurses did not make the top 5 spotshaving fallen to sixth. Each of thhas high levels of posting for different reasons. Retails sales jobs are often high turnover antherefore must post frequently in order to keep a certain level of employment. Other jobs, lSoftware Developers, are experiencing great need at the moment and employers are scramget the talent they need to fill these high demand jobs.

EMPLOYMENT AND LABOR FORCE
labor force in Oakland County has been rising slowly since its lowest point in early 2011. In the currentrter, the labor force has risen again, adding 9,887 individuals. Between Q2 2014 and Q3 2014, the
r force rose by 1.7%. At this rate, Oakland County is on track to have a higher labor force number thanyears annual count, continuing the upward trend in labor force numbers.

In the most recent quarter, employment rose again,ng 6,428 workers. Since last quarter, employment has grown by 1.2%. Employment levels are nearlyvered to the highest point seen in this data, occurring before the recession in 2008. This trend ofdy, positive growth is a good sign for the county.

If employment increases again next quarter but the labor forstays the same, the unemployment rate will drop back to Q1 and Q2 levels for the year
During Q3 2014, Oakland County job posting levels declined by about 1,600 postings (fr31,899 in Q2 to 30,257), continuing a trend of steady decline over the course of this yealast year represented the biggest spike seen to date, and postings have been normalizisince. Postings are still higher than they were for much of 2013. This approximately 30,mark may be the average for this county, with the exception of several troughs that macaused by normal business cycles.

Not only are postings remaining higher for anotheruarter running but they are nearly double the posting level at this time last year.hese jobs are not traditionally posted online but are often filled through unions,iring halls, or word of mouth. The trend is shifting though, with more and moremployers turning to online postings to find qualified workers. Skilled trade andechnician postings represent 3% of total Oakland County online job postings.
Employment in Skilled Trades has been steadily increasing each year sincthe deepest trough in 2010, with a quick pace at first and now beginning tlevel. 30,842 individuals are employed in skilled trades and relatedoccupations compared to 30,120 in 2013. Employment increased at a rate2.3% between this year and last. Employment in this occupation group isnearing pre-recession levels, but is beginning to stagnate at a slightly low
level.

Postings for this occupation remain high every quarter, and have increased by over 100 postings from last quarter.
Other top jobs include Electrical Engineers (493 postings), and Commercial And Industrial Designers (322 postings).
These top three jobs have been the most in demand in this industry for the past several quarters running. Postings

etail and hospitality online postings have been relatively stagnant for the past severaluarters, since Q4 2013. This quarter, postings rest at 7,058, a slight drop from Q2 2014. Likether clusters in Oakland County, this is the fourth consecutive quarter with higher-than-sual postings after a big peak in late 2013. Where postings typically were around000-5,000 level, they are now normalizing at around 7,000 postings. Much of the postingehavior in this cluster is due to churn and turnover in staff in these positions, not significantmployment growth. Retail & hospitality postings represent 23.3% of all online job postings Oakland County, the most common posting occupation group in the region.
In 2014, 198,390 individuals are working across the retail and hospitalityoccupational groupthe largest of any of the clusters WIN studies. Since lowest trough in 2010, employment in this cluster has been steadily risingnegligible decline between this year and last. Employment has not yet recto pre-recession levels, but this industry has been growing quickly so thatoccur within the next several years.

UNDERSTANDING CLUSTERS Rather than focusing on talent demand within industries (types of rms), WIN
generally emphasizes exploring talent demand based on occupations, including
the skills, educational credentials, and experience needed to work in them.
WIN research examines industry data, as the health of companies can be
useful for economic development purposes. However, shifting focus from
industry to occupation is important as dierent types of occupations with
extremely dierent skillsets may work within and across industries. For
example, accountants, computer specialists, and engineers all may work in the
manufacturing industry.
By clustering occupations, the talent system can identify employer demand
for particular skillsets across multiple industry types and develop a response
through training and pipeline development to meet that demand.
Employment refers to actual employment numbersthe number of peop
