SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:1. Never Dry Fire Your Bow. When drawing your bow for inspection or demonstration purposes, the string should be let down without letting go of the string. Without the weight of the arrow to absorb the released energy, excessive strain is applied to the limbs which could damage the bow or result in injury to the shooter.

2. Never Leave Your Bow Exposed To Extreme Heat. Excessive heat, such as could be experienced on a sunny day inside a closed vehicle could cause limb failure.

3. Carefully Inpect Your Bow. Regularly examine your bow and string for signs of wear and damage. A frayed or worn string should be replaced to avoid breaking a string while shooting.

4. Maintain Your Bowstring. Apply a light coat of bowstring wax to your bow's string on a regular basis.

5. Always Be Safe. Never shoot an arrow straight up. Always be sure of your target and the area immediately behind it.

6. Inspect All Arrows. Before shooting, inspect your arrows for defects. Replace cracked nocks. Discard fractured or dented arrows. Replace loose fletch or feathers. All these conditions could be hazardous to the bow and the shooter. Always shoot arrows that weigh at least eight grains per pound.

7. Check For Proper Clearance. Before shooting, make sure the bow limbs will not strike a tree limb or other obstacle.

8. Always Use A Bow Stringer. It is very important that your bow is strung and unstrung properly. Improper stringing can cause limbs to twist, resulting in possible bow failure and/or injury to the user. We recommend leaving your bow strung at all times when practical so as to reduce the chance of problems arising during the stringing and unstringing process. Leaving the bow strung will not hurt it.

The next page explains the proper use of a bow stringer to string and unstring your bow...

6. Once again check the bow stringer and make sure it's not twisted off to the side of the limb.

Begin to slide the bow string up toward the string groove on upper limb.

Use your foot directly in the center of the bow stringer and hold it firmly to the floor.

7. Pull up on the bow handle until the bow stringer begins to apply pressure to the limbs. Continue bending limbs far enough to allow the bow string to slide completely to the top of the limb and into the string groove.

CAUTION! Make sure you pull straight, or the bow stringer could come off one end or the other!

8. Make certain the bow string is positioned fully into the string groove of the limb tip before letting pressure off of the bow stringer.

To unstring the bow, simply reverse the process, using the bow stringer to bend the limbs so you can slide the bow string off of the upper limb string groove.

Bow Tuning

Bezaleel bows are designed for top performance and easy tuning. However, due to variations in shooter and shooting styles, slight changes in bow setup may be necessary.

The following sections explain important areas of fine-tuning your bow.

Brace Height (See diagram on page 3)

Brace height can be adjusted simply by twisting (shortening) or untwisting (lengthening) the bow string. Shortening the bow string will increase brace height while lengthening the bow string will decrease brace height.

Generally a lower brace height will produce slightly more energy to the arrow, but the trade-off is slightly more bow noise. Also, a lower brace height is somewhat less forgiving of shooter errors and form.

A higher brace height usually will be more forgiving of flaws in shooter form, slightly less bow noise but has slightly less energy available to go to the arrow.

There's no such thing as a free lunch!

Here are some suggested brace heights:

Nock Point Adjustment

Arrows that wobble up and down in flight usually can be corrected by adjusting the nock point up or down the string in about 1/16th inch increments.

Bezaleel Owner's Manual Page 13 of 19 Rev. 6/2/2008

90o

3/8” - 1/2”

Initial set up should place the nock point approximately 3/8” to 1/2” above the 90o line from the arrow shelf.

Always use a good quality set of nock point pliers to adjust the nock point.

Arrows that consistently wobble left and right (fishtail) in flight usually means improper arrow spine (stiffness) or incorrect feather or vane orientation on the arrow causing excessive feather contact with the bow during arrow release.

The following diagram shows proper feather and nock orientation.

Make sure the arrow nocks are oriented in such a way as to provide maximum feather clearance.

Arrow Shaft Selection

Choosing the correct arrow for your bow and your shooting style is crucial for optimum arrow flight and performance. Many available arrow shaft selection charts should help you decide which arrow is right for your particular set up.

Each arrow material type - wood, metal, carbon fiber, etc. - has its own arrow shaft selection chart, which has a breakdown between recurve and longbow models. The sheer number of options is beyond the scope of this manual, and we recommend locating the arrow shaft selection chart which matches your arrow type and selecting from there.

Draw length and bow weight measuring point

Note the pre-measured arrow markings.

In this case, the draw length is 27” plus 1 or 2 inches, or 28”-29”.

Arrow selection mostly depends on two factors:

1) Draw Length and 2) Draw Weight

Draw Length is determined by placing a full length arrow on your bow and draw fully to your anchor point. Have someone mark your arrow at the back of the bow as shown. Add 1” to 2” to determine arrow length.

Draw Weight is measured with a bow scale at a specified draw length.

The draw weight for your bow is inscribed on the lower limb and represents draw weight at the specified draw length.

If this draw length differs from your actual draw length (as outlined earlier), your draw weight should be calculated at approximately 3 pounds of draw weight per 1” draw length change.

Traditional Archery Equipment

One of the advantages of a traditional bow is its simplicity. Fewer moving parts mean less things to go wrong, break, or go out of adjustment. However the trade-off here is there are fewer things to adjust for fine tuning your bow. Even so, there is absolutely no reason to settle for mediocre arrow flight with traditional equipment.

After initial set up with your bow brace height and nock point location, proper arrow selection is probably the most important factor that will help you achieve perfect and consistent arrow flight.

In its simplest form, bow tuning traditional equipment simply means:

- Choosing the correct arrow for your bow's draw length and weight

- Carefully making slight adjustments in both brace height and nock point location until your bow shoots as quiet as possible and arrows are flying straight and true with no visible wobble.

We strongly suggest that you only make one adjustment at a time. Whether you're changing arrow size or length, or just moving the nock point up or down the string, if you change 2 or 3 things at once you won't know which change effected the desired result.
