WHERE IS SIEWIERZ?Siewierz and its municipality is situated in the central part of Silesia region, in Będzin county. This beautiful town – is proud of its monuments, interesting, natural and tourist places and very hospitable citizens. Clear water and air, forests, closed quarries, caves and meadows encourage hiking, biking or water sports.

HISTORY OF SIEWIERZ In history, Sewerien was first mentioned in

1125. In 1276, Siewierz received city status. In XII century it was a trade settlement. In XIV century Bytom princes ordered to build the stone castle. In 1443 Bishop of Cracow - Zbigniew Oleśnicki bought this area, and Siewierz became the capital of the Duchy of Siewierz. In XVI century the castle was transformed into a Renaissance mansion. In the following centuries Siewierz was under the influence of many sovereigns.

At present, the castle constitues so called stable ruin with full surrounding of walls, the gate tower and reconstructed barbican.

The stronghold in Siewierz is currently the most recognizable symbol of the town in the province. Many significant events are organized here.

OLD MARKET SQUAREIn 2009, the entire market square was reconstructed, including: its platform, road surface and enriched with a fountain with beautiful ladies of Siewierz, benches and greenery. It became a nice place to spend free time.

THE CULTUREThe culture in our community plays an important role. Our authorities organize many artistic shows and a lot of young talented people from our area take part in them. For example, knights tournaments take place in the castle every week in summer. There are also many concerts of famous Polish musicians.

TRADITIONAL FOOD

Our region produces many local dishes. Seven specialties are included in the list of traditional foods by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Siewierz is also well known for its bread.

THE CASTLE First notes of the castle date from the twelfth century. In the beginning it was the seat castellany, then by the time it was ruled by the kings of Poland. Then it came under the rule of the Bishops of Krakow.

CHURCH OF ST. MATTHIAS

Church of St. Matthias the Apostle in Siewierz - Roman temple in Siewierz in Baroque - Classicist. The church was built in the first half of the fifteenth century. Later, it was twice rebuilt.

CHURCH OF ST.MARTIN

Parish St. Martin in Wojkowice Kościelne existed before 1325, but the church may have existed earlier, as evidenced by the oldest part - rectangular Romanesque chancel, built of stone blocks and the former sacristy on the north side (now the treasury) and a small party of the nave.

THE CHAMBER OF TRADITION AND OLD CULTURE IN SIEWIERZ.

The house where now the Chumber of Tradition is located was erected by the Frank family, at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is covered with a mansard roof. In the second half of the 19th century, it was the seat of the commune authorities. Now it is the local museum and tourist information point.

SCHOOLS IN OUR COMMUNITY

Most schools in Siewierz are equipped with modern teaching resources that facilitate the learning process. For example, the team of Nursery and Primary School in Wojkowice Kościelne has a modern computer and language lab.

LOCAL CLUBIn Siewierz there is a football club called Przemsza Siewierz. It has several categories of age, and young talented players play there.

LOCAL TELEVISIONSiewierz iTV is the first independent news portal in our community. The beginning of Internet TV in Siewierz dates April 20 2013 when people could see the Ecological Youth Conference, prepared by the schools in our community.
