SY?lPH (OROPOS) This is possible, I suppose; I do not know. It is eaually possible that "Halia" was an epithet of an otherwise nameless nymph: compare the "Silent One", Sigelos, near Oropos, see NXRSISSOS (OROPOS) . More intriguing is the existence of Jit!iyrambic competitions, the ?ri:es for whish !;ere dedicated to this nymph. Prosma5ly the agon :zas iieli in her honour, too. One would like to !<now vhy. * * NYMPHS (ALALKOMENAI 1 Epithet: Tritonides Plutarch, fr. 157 (Eusebius, ?rae?aratto Zvcnge!ZzLz 3 ?roczrn.) See HEM (PLATAIA). One of Plutarch's two references to this ritual comes hard on the heels of a citation of the Atthidograph Kleidemos, and it is poss- ible that this part of the story also comes from Kleidemos2. If Plutarch, Aristeides 19.6 (330E), Quaestiones Conviviales 1.10.3 (628E-F). This was how Jacoby took it.
