NURSING EXCELLENCECongratulations to Metropolitan’s Jude Coye, RN, Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department and Radiology, who was honored at the NYC Health + Hospitals Nursing Excellence Awards.

Coye was inspired by an aunt, a nurse, who told him, “Taking care of someone else fills a part of you that never empties. It makes you

a better person.” Coye, in turn, says that one of his proudest moments came when a student told him that after seeing the care he gave her grandmother, she was changing her major to nursing.

somehow part of that, what could be better?”The annual Nursing Excellence Awards celebrate the more than 8,000 dedicated nurses in the City’s public hospital system. Every day, our nurses reach beyond their routine duties to ensure patients are taking better charge of their own health and the health of their families. We thank them for all they do.

Join us for the unveiling of our new community mural on Wednesday, November 13 at

10 AM at the hospital’s Second Avenue entrance (at 97th Street). The mural celebrating the Metropolitan hospital community was created by artist Priscila de Carvalho and painted in collaboration with patients, staff, and community members. Community murals are provided by NYC Health + Hospitals Arts in Medicine, with the support of the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund.

For Coye, every shift he works is an opportunity to help patients overcome the power their illnesses have over them.

Sista’s Fulfilling Dreams returned to Metropolitan to host Wig It For Cancer. The local community group provided over 50 natural

hair wigs for patients and community members. Joined by District Leader Eddie Gibbs and Vy Higginsen’s Sing Harlem Choir, volunteer stylists worked with the women to complete their looks, while hospital staff shared information about support and resources.

Thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, friends and family who joined us for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park. We remember those we lost and support the battle to end breast cancer.

EXCELENCIA EN ENFERMERÍAFelicitaciones a Jude Coye, RN, de Metropolitan, enfermero en el Departamento de Emergencia y Radiología, que fue galardonada con uno de los Premios a la Excelencia en Enfermería de NYC Health + Hospitals.

El grupo comunitario Sista’s Fulfilling Dreams regresó a Metropolitan para presentar “Wig It For Cancer”, un evento

para mujeres con cancer. El grupo proporcionó más de 50 pelucas de cabello natural para pacientes y miembros de la comunidad. Junto al líder del distrito Eddie Gibbs y al coro Sing Harlem de Vy Higginsen, los estilistas voluntarios trabajaron con las mujeres para completar su apariencia, mientras que el personal del hospital compartió información sobre apoyo y recursos.

Gracias a todo el personal, los voluntarios, los amigos y familiares que nos acompañaron en la caminata anual contra el cáncer de mama Making Strides en Parque Central. Recordamos a aquellos que perdimos y apoyamos la batalla para acabar con el cáncer de mama.
