After the testing, we will start installing them on the premises of the consumers,” the official said. The smart meters would eliminate human intervention for fetching of meter data and to facilitate disconnection or reconnection by remotely making use of the meters with radio frequency- based communication technology. The consumers will be able to claim compensation for voltage fluctuation if the data was provided to them from the smart meters,” he added.

Schools are likely to be reopened by NovemberThe Department of Education of the State Govt. of Tamil Nadu has informed that the schools are likely to be reopened in Nov. The Education Depar-tment has further informed that there will be no quarterly and half-yearly examinations. The Public Examina-tions for the 10th, 11th, and 12th Std. is scheduled to be conducted in June 2021.

Infamous trio arrested during a vehicle check in Arumbakkam Radhakrishnan, who faces about 40 cases including murder, kidnap and extortion, has been absconding for over six months after being released on bail. Police said the trio was secured when they tried to flee during a vehicle check in Arumbakkam. The other two were identified as Vadivel (36) of Villivakkam and Ranjith (19) of Minjur. Radhakrishnan is an arch-rival of Binu Papachan of Choolaimedu, another gangster who is infamous for the birthday party he threw for anti-socials in the city a few years ago.

Deadline for filing of original and revised income tax (IT) returns extended till Sep 30thThe Central Board of Direct Taxes on July 29 extended the deadline for filing of original and revised income tax returns for financial year 2018-19 (Assessment year 2019-2020) till Sept. 30. Earlier in March, the date was extended to June 30 from March 31, and in June till July 31. In order to provide relief to small and middle class tax payers, the date for payment of self-assessment tax in the case of a taxpayer whose selfassessment tax liability is upto Rs. 1 lakh has also been extended to Nov. 30.
